The sector has fallen out of favor with Wall Street and now has one of the lowest price/<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/category/earnings/" class="inlinked">earnings</a> ratios of any major sector of the stock market, Bary writes. <br />
<br />
Investors are staying away from the large pharmaceutical companies ahead of their looming patent cliff, when blockbuster drugs like Lipitor, Plavix and Singulair lose patent protection and lose most of the sales from these drugs to generics. Investors also fear the companies don't have enough new drugs in the pipeline to make up for the lost sales, which could mean big hits to earnings. <br />
<br />
But when the Street writes off one of the world's most important industries and with valuations at all-time lows, investors ought to take notice, Bary says. Especially when the average dividend yield of the big drugmakers is 4.8%.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/28/wall-street-ingoring-big-pharma-should-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wall Street Ignoring Big Pharma -- Should You?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/28/wall-street-ingoring-big-pharma-should-you/">Wall Street Ignoring Big Pharma -- Should You?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 28 Jun 2010 14:30:00 EST. As one of the harder hit areas, it was not a happy place. It was the end of winter, but that miserable, cold winter just didn't want to end. People walked the streets in a gloomy haze, afraid to take the subway and giving dirty looks to anyone brazen enough to cough in public. Worse, I couldn't even visit a friend in the hospital. All things considered though, in global pandemic terms, it was over relatively quickly. Let's hope swine flu will be the same.<br /><br />In the meantime, let's put on our investors hats and see what's in store for some stocks:<br /><br /><strong>Travel and tourist stocks</strong><br />This is one of the worst hit areas, especially airlines, as people may cancel their travel plans. For example, <a href="http://AMR">AMR Corp</a>. (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys">AMR</a>) traded over 9 percent lower an hour after the open. <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-caribbean-cruises-ltd/rcl/nys">Royal Caribbean Cruises</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-caribbean-cruises-ltd/rcl/nys">RCL</a>) was down over 15 percent. In fact UBS downgraded these airlines and hotels this morning: AMR, <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/continental-airlines-inc/cal/nys">Continental Airlines</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/continental-airlines-inc/cal/nys">CAL</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/host-hotels-and-resorts-inc/hst/nys">Host </a><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/host-hotels-and-resorts-inc/hst/nys">Hotels and Resorts</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/host-hotels-and-resorts-inc/hst/nys">HST</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/lasalle-hotel-properties/lho/nys">Lasalle Hotel Properties</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/lasalle-hotel-properties/lho/nys">LHO)</a>, <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/marriott-international-incorpora/mar/nys">Marriott</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/marriott-international-incorpora/mar/nys">MAR</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/ual-corporation/uaua/nas">United</a> <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/ual-corporation/uaua/nas">Airlines</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/ual-corporation/uaua/nas">UAUA</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/us-airways-group-inc-new/lcc/nys">US Airways</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/us-airways-group-inc-new/lcc/nys">LCC</a>). <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/carnival-corporation-and-plc/ccl/nys">Carnival Cruise Lines</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/carnival-corporation-and-plc/ccl/nys">CCL</a>) also declined considerably. Reports from the <span style="font-style: italic;">Wall Street Journal</span> suggest that the two companies <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20090310-703926.html?mod=wsjcrmain">may have been close to a deal Monday</a> afternoon, with timing and closing conditions yet to be agreed upon. In fact, the <span style="font-style: italic;">Journal </span>noted that these terms could cause the deal to fall apart. <br /><br />Roche is offering $95 per share for the remaining Genentech's shares, up from Friday's offer of $93 per share, which was already higher than the earlier offer of $86.50 per share. Reportedly, Genentech's board has pegged the company's worth at $112 per share. However, Roche's chairman noted that this price is not realistic, stating the firm's current offer is still fair. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/10/roche-and-genentech-dna-believed-close-to-a-deal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Roche and Genentech (DNA) believed close to a deal</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/10/roche-and-genentech-dna-believed-close-to-a-deal/">Roche and Genentech (DNA) believed close to a deal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 08:30:00 EST.
