Here, the contributing editor of Leeb's Income Performance Letter explains why AT&T (NYSE: T) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) are poised to be the biggest beneficiaries among leading telecoms.

"Customers are increasingly seeking lower-cost services and delaying purchases of more costly equipment. But the companies are adapting, particularly through cost-cutting and strengthening their balance sheets by paying down and restructuring debt.

"AT&T and Verizon, the telecom industry leaders, were the big spenders for rights to the powerful analog signals when the FCC auctioned off much of the freed-up spectrum in early 2008.

Continue reading Analog spectrum boosts AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ)

Analog spectrum boosts AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 12:10:00 EST.
In The Complete Investor newsletter, the advisor explains, "We've found four top infrastructure stocks, now at bargain-basement levels, that we think will surge. In The Complete Investor he looks at Mosaic (NYSE: MOS). a world leader in fertilizers.

"Mosaic has been decimated in price despite reporting record earnings. The company is the world's second-biggest producer of fertilizer components and the leading producer of potash.

"It's also the largest maker of processed phosphates, which gives it a lot of leverage to the rapidly growing markets of China and Brazil, and is an exclusive marketer of 1.2 million metric tons of nitrogen products.

"Since its high in June, the stock has lost three-fourths of its value and now trades at just 3 times next year's earnings. The sell-off came despite Mosaic's highest-ever earnings ($2.65 in the latest quarter vs. $0.69 a year earlier) and expanding gross margins (38.1% vs. 26%).

"The apparent reason was that those record earnings were slightly below some analyst estimates. Also, investors perhaps feared that farmers wouldn't be able to obtain credit to buy fertilizers.

"Once all the added liquidity puts these fears to rest, and given that the worldwide inventory of soybeans, corn, and wheat is forecasted to keep declining into 2009, we think demand for Mosaic's products will be strong.

"Long-term investors should use any temporary softness in fertilizer component prices as a great buying opportunity for Mosaic's shares."

The contributing editor to Stephen Leeb's The Complete Investor explains, the "Along with the energy sell-off, unregulated utilities have declined even more-to bargain levels." Here are five other investment ideas to sip on.

"Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) is a remarkably profitable franchise," says Stephen Leeb. In The Complete Investor, he looks at its expanding market opportunities and expanding dividend.

" Selling its soft drinks and other products to just about every nation in the world, Coke has operating margins of 26.1% and return on common equity of 30.9%. On top of this, it delivers a dividend yield of 3%, higher than the S&P 500's 2.4%.

"And since the payout ratio is only 52.6%, the company could nearly double the yield with no problem at all. While the yield isn't likely to double overnight, Coke clearly has been moving in the direction of favoring higher dividends. Over the past five years, dividends have grown by 11.4% a year.

"In times of inflation, it is particularly critical to invest in companies that can generate growth in both earnings and dividends and that can handle cost pressures with high-margin products. Coke clearly fits this bill.

"The company has been expanding its reach in noncarbonated drinks like juice, water, and sports drinks such as Powerade and Vitamin Water.

"This latter area is Coke's fastest-growing segment, chalking up 12% volume growth in 2007 vs. just 4% for the company's eponymous Coke soft drinks.

"Clearly Coke has regained its footing with successful new product offerings as well as revitalized sales growth in international markets, which provide the bulk of sales and earnings.

"Looking ahead, the company's focus on new high-growth products indicates that earnings could keep growing in double digits, with fewer fluctuations than for most other U.S. large-cap stocks. This together with the dollar's chronic weakness makes multinational Coke a solid long-term holding for conservative investors."

"The question isn't whether inflation will worsen-it's how to protect yourself. Major and obvious lifelines we've stressed include precious metal and commodity companies, especially ones able to boost production.

"For additional inflation insurance, look to what Warren Buffett likes to call 'great companies.' These have two crucial characteristics that allow them to take inflation in stride.
