Well, when the company still manages to top expectations of course. This unlikely scenario has unfolded for Michigan-based chemical firm Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW).

Let's deal with the 97% profit drop first. This massive fall was triggered by falling sales, job cuts and the company's acquisition of Rohm & Haas, a specialty chemicals firm that Dow took over.
Continue reading Dow Chemical's profit drops 97% but tops expectations

Dow Chemical's profit drops 97% but tops expectations originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 08:40:00 EST. Bank Clothiers (NASDAQ: JOSB) announced its fiscal-year profit this morning -- logging rather impressive earnings of $3.17 per share. A year ago, JOSB reported earnings of $2.72 per share. This year's results were also 10 cents better than what the Street expected. Yearly net sales increased to $695.9 million, up from $604 million a year ago.

Many may find it difficult to believe that a clothing retailer could have a better year this year than last, what's the deal? One reason could be that JOSB delivers quite a bit of value for the dollar. For those not familiar with the company, men can purchase a complete "work-appropriate" outfit for less than $400 (from the suit jacket to the socks).

Continue reading JoS A. The company had been expected to show earnings of $1.99 per share, but actually was able to come though with $2.37 a share during the quarter.

Much of this recent quarter's success was a result of strong international sales which helped offset lower sales in the United States. Shares of Deere have started off the day strongly, picking up 3.3% to climb to $120.92 up $3.83 a share.

The company is going to be hosting a conference call starting at 10:00 AM EDT to discuss the quarter in more detail, and we will be covering the call in its entirety.
