Here are the highlights:</p>
<ul>
    <li><strong>Tuesday: </strong>Weekly chain-store sales</li>
    <li><strong>Wednesday: </strong>Federal budget balance for January</li>
    <li><strong>Thursday: </strong>Wholesale trade data in December</li>
    <li><strong>Friday:</strong> Trade balance in December and the weekly inflation survey</li>
</ul>
<p>However, three iconic companies -- Walt Disney (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-walt-disney-company/dis/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">DIS</a>), Coca-Cola (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-coca-cola-company/ko/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">KO</a>) and Hasbro (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hasbro-inc/has/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">HAS</a>) -- highlight this week's quarterly results. Here's a look at what analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters are anticipating from these and others.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/06/week-in-preview-coca-cola-disney-and-hasbro-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Coca-Cola, Disney and Hasbro Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/06/week-in-preview-coca-cola-disney-and-hasbro-earnings/">Week in Preview: Coca-Cola, Disney and Hasbro Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 06 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. That is exactly what the polls indicated ahead of time and just about <a href="http://247wallst.com/2010/11/03/fomcbernanke-outline-quantitative-easing-measures/">exactly what the markets were pricing in</a>. Then came Bernanke and the FOMC with the announcement of what <a href="http://247wallst.com/2010/11/03/fomcbernanke-outline-quantitative-easing-measures/">exactly the new $600 billion in quantitative easing</a> would look like. That was also priced in. As noted, it was all baked into the cake at current prices. Outside of a decent mood being prevalent today by many, stocks had a hard time deciding whether they wanted to be in the red or in the black. <br />

Republicans are poised to gain control of the House of Representatives and gain governorships in Tuesday's mid-term elections. Also, the Federal Reserve is expected to announce another round of <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Quantitative%20Easing">quantitative easing</a> Wednesday, following the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Federal%20Open%20Market%20Committee%20-%20FOMC" target="_blank">FOMC</a> meeting. Major retailers are scheduled to report October <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/same%20store%20sales" target="_blank">same-store sales</a> Thursday, while the October unemployment rate, announced on Friday, is expected to remain at 9.6%.</p>
<p>Toyota's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/toyota-motor-corporation/tm/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">TM</a>) fiscal second-quarter results will be one of the highlights on the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/category/earnings/" class="inlinked" target="_blank">earnings</a> front this week. After three periods of way underestimating Toyota's earnings, have the analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters got it right this time? The stock sure could use a boost. But unfortunately for Sam Adams brewer Boston Beer (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-boston-beer-company-inc/sam/nys" class="inlinked">SAM</a>), the price of success could be higher costs and the loss of its label as an "artisan" craft beer.</p>
<p>That's not to say a cold bottle of Sam Adams Summer Ale will taste any different to consumers. But according to the <a href="http://www.brewersassociation.org/pages/business-tools/craft-brewing-statistics/market-segments" target="_blank">Brewers Association</a>, "artisan" brewers include small outfits that put out less than two million barrels of suds a year. That means the brewer that almost single-handedly sparked interest in smaller batch brews with more flavor could be pushed into the same category as the big beer vendors like Anheuser Buch Inbev (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/anheuser-busch-inbev-sa-nv/bud/nys" class="inlinked">BUD</a>) and Molson Coors (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/molson-coors-brewing-company/tap/nys" class="inlinked">TAP</a>).</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/15/sam-adams-may-lose-artisan-beer-label/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sam Adams May Lose 'Artisan Beer' Label</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/15/sam-adams-may-lose-artisan-beer-label/">Sam Adams May Lose 'Artisan Beer' Label</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 12:00:00 EST. Nevertheless, it was not enough to sustain world stock markets from racking up <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/greece-portugal-and-the-eu-bailout-cost/19457053/">sizable losses</a> as economic news about Greek debt being downgraded to junk statues made us all tremble in<a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=aRp5DU8Vht0k&amp;pos=2"> crises proportions as the possibility of default looms.</a><br />

The Greek government has finally asked that the European Union help by releasing funds committed just recently in a $45 billion Euro package. The EU, sending shivers around the globe, is balking until they see evidence that Greece has passed meaningful debt reduction legislation. In the mean time, Greek bonds have surged to 24%. This does not surprise me having recently <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/24/serious-money-greek-bonds-or-high-yield-stocks/">questioned why anyone would buy Greek bonds</a> at market rates given so many better alternatives.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/28/world-markets-crumbling-with-greek-ruins-so-add-low-beta-stocks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World Markets Crumbling with Greek Ruins, So Add Low Beta Stocks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/28/world-markets-crumbling-with-greek-ruins-so-add-low-beta-stocks/">World Markets Crumbling with Greek Ruins, So Add Low Beta Stocks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 28 Apr 2010 14:00:00 EST. Yes, 7-Eleven -- the sultan of Slurpees, the high priest of week-old hot dogs, the convenience king -- is going to throw its proverbial hat in the ring, looking for your beer bucks.</p>
<p>I did not know this, but 7-Eleven is the third-largest beer retailer in the United States. Perhaps my ignorance is born from the fact that there are no 7-Elevens in my hometown.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/23/7-elevens-brewing-ambitions-no-threat-to-bud-tap-sbmry/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>7-Eleven's Brewing Ambitions No Threat to Budweiser, Coors or Miller</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/23/7-elevens-brewing-ambitions-no-threat-to-bud-tap-sbmry/">7-Eleven's Brewing Ambitions No Threat to Budweiser, Coors or Miller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 12:30:00 EST. <li><strong>Cardiac Sciences</strong> (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/cardiac-science-corporation/cscx/nas">CSCX</a>): It's hard to have a heart for a company that fails seven out of my eight fundamental screens.</li>

Well, Kiplinger's offers not to get our dads the same old presents -- another tie, another power tool -- but <a href="http://kiplinger.com/columns/picks/archive/2009/pick0616.htm">stocks in companies he probably likes</a> or uses their products. That's a great idea, I thought, and decided to counter with five of my own. <br />
<ul>
    <li> Kiplinger's suggests: <span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diageo-p-l-c/deo/nys">Diageo</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diageo-p-l-c/deo/nys">DEO</a>)</span>, the seller of such brands as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness and Jos&eacute; Cuervo. Diageo has held up better than most during the recession -- thanks to a balanced portfolio of products, with higher exposure to mid-price, mainstream brands and less exposure to ultra-premium brands. The shares look reasonably priced. At $56.01, Diageo trades at 15 times estimated June 2009 earnings of $3.82 a share. The stock yields 2.8%. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li> Another to consider: <span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/molson-coors-brewing-company/tap/nys">Molson Coors</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/molson-coors-brewing-company/tap/nys">TAP</a>)</span>, the seller of such brands as Coors, Blue Moon, Pilsner and Rickard's. Beer, probably even more so than hard liquor is supposed to hold better during a recession given the cheaper price point. The company's recent quarterly profits <a href="http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=101929&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1284282&amp;highlight=">more than doubled</a>. The shares trade at 13 times forward earnings of $3.33 and yield 2.2%.</li>
