Any small pieces that can easily be taken off any consumer product are a choking hazard to small children.

Again and again, Chinese manufacturers and U.S. vendors can't seem to design products made for children that won't end up with parts that can come off and be swallowed by kids. We're cracking into the human genome in another field, but hey, forget backpack design, right? My goodness, must be a toughie.

110,000 Chinese-made Cars backpacks are being recalled after magnets fell out of a piece of the plastic enclosure attached to the backpacks in three separate instances, although no subsequent injuries were reported. The backpacks in question were sold at Target stores nationwide from February through September of this year for $13 each.

So, this may not be a lead-paint recall issue from Chinese-sourced products, but that does not diminish the fact that it's still just as important. With China now making 80% of the world's toys, the parade of recalls is sure to continue. Stay tuned to BloggingStocks for more coverage of product recalls from the retail industry as they happen, because they will.
Target recalls 110,000 Chinese-made 'Cars' backpacks originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 25 Oct 2007 12:29:00 EST. (NYSE: TGT) has announced -- with the worst holiday timing possible -- that it will be recalling nearly 200,000 toys from 11 product offerings. The recall came from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on yesterday. One of the recalled toys poses a choking hazard. The others are recalled for either exposure to lead paint or for having sharp points.

I can understand that lead paint and sharp points can lead to recalls, but I continue to be dumbfounded on why recalls continue to happen for toys that have a "choking hazard." Have retailers not mastered the fact that the mouths of infants and small children really have not changed? Who approves these toys for crying out loud (no pun intended)?

Although no injuries were reported yet, Target is recalling more than 190,000 "Kool Toyz" products because some of them contain lead paint -- I'm amazed that this product is still being used -- as it can cause adverse health effects in young kids if ingested. Additionally, some of the toys also have sharp points -- meaning that they could pose cuts or puncture wound hazards.

The recalled "Kool Toyz" are: Truck Carry Case, Tiny Playground Set, Dream House Play Set, Discovery Dinosaur Habitat, Command Center Action Figure Play Set, Aircraft Carrier Action Figure Play Set, Air, Land and Sea Defender Play Set, Tank Action Figure Play Set, Helicopter Action Figure Play Set, and Remote Control Trucks.

Target recalls 200,000 toys originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 16 Nov 2006 10:23:00 EST.
