The underemployment rate, technically known <a href="http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t01.htm">as U-6</a>, which increased to 17.1% from 16.7% in August. <br />
<br />
U-6 measures those unemployed, and others working part-time who want full-time work but can't find it. A year ago, the underemployment rate was at 16.1%. <br />
<br />
September's 17.1% underemployment rate translates into 14.8 million Americans unemployed, and another 7million to 8 million underemployed, to total about 22-23 million Americans that want full-time work who can't find it.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/11/tell-tale-stat-u-s-underemployment-rate-rose-to-17-1-in-septe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tell-Tale Stat: U.S. Underemployment Rate Rose to 17.1% in September</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/11/tell-tale-stat-u-s-underemployment-rate-rose-to-17-1-in-septe/">Tell-Tale Stat: U.S. Underemployment Rate Rose to 17.1% in September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 16:00:00 EST. The numbers were upbeat. The unemployment rate held steady at 9.7% and 162,000 hew jobs were created. This is the official number and is labeled the U-3 unemployment report. The U-3 category includes people who are without jobs and who are available for work. Wonderful isn't it? Maybe not.</p>
<p>Let's dig a bit deeper into the darker side of the unemployment numbers. What is rarely published are the unemployment numbers under the category labeled U-6. Most people have never heard of the U-6 category because it is rarely cited in headline news.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/02/broader-u-6-unemployment-rate-rises-to-16-9/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Broader U-6 Unemployment Rate Rises to 16.9%</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/02/broader-u-6-unemployment-rate-rises-to-16-9/">Broader U-6 Unemployment Rate Rises to 16.9%</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 02 Apr 2010 16:30:00 EST. If passed, the bill would then have to be reconciled with a House bill passed a month ago that extends benefits by 13 weeks in high-unemployment states.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/28/congress-moves-closer-to-extending-unemployment-benefits/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Congress moves closer to extending unemployment benefits</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/28/congress-moves-closer-to-extending-unemployment-benefits/">Congress moves closer to extending unemployment benefits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 28 Oct 2009 18:00:00 EST.
