The editor of Global Commodity Investing explains, "Iron ore prices, which are set quarterly, have since declined 10 percent, so the company won't rack up such impressive numbers again in this quarter. The weak dollar will also have an impact on the company's margins.

"Still, given China's continued strong expansion, as well as those of other emerging markets-and limited expected supply additions, iron ore prices are likely to remain high for some time to come.

Continue reading Vale (VALE): Strength in Iron

Vale (VALE): Strength in Iron originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 16 Nov 2010 11:30:00 EST. As expected, the merger between Continental and United airlines was announced Monday, without much in the way of surprise. Investors await several economic reports, hoping some good figures would help markets rebound from Friday's selloff.

European governments and the International Monetary Fund agreed Sunday to euro110 billion ($145 billion) in loans to debt-laden Greece over three years. In return, Greece promised to commit to euro 30 billion in austerity measures through to 2012, cutting wages and pensions and increasing sales taxes. But even as the aid was approved, world markets fell Monday.
Continue reading Before the Bell: Futures Higher After Greece Bailout, Airlines Merger

Before the Bell: Futures Higher After Greece Bailout, Airlines Merger originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 03 May 2010 08:25:00 EST.
In the past, iron ore pricing was largely set on an annual basis, with the first negotiated ore contracts of the season setting the price for the duration of that season. However, this year, the three largest iron ore miners, BHP Billiton (BHP), Rio Tinto (RTP) and Vale SA (VALE), have decided that they will seek quarterly renegotiation of ore contract pricing. This will allow those companies to take better advantage of increases in iron ore demand and spikes in spot prices.

Continue reading New Iron Ore Pricing Scheme Should Be Good for American Steel

New Iron Ore Pricing Scheme Should Be Good for American Steel originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Sun, 04 Apr 2010 14:40:00 EST. TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says at least one country is getting it right when it comes to economic stimulus.

How in the heck can you get 16% industrial growth and lower-than-expected consumer price inflation? How is that possible? Yet that's what we saw from China last night, and that's a tonic to pretty much everyone who is waiting for our own stimulus to kick in.

And we need it.

On Monday, Fluor (FLR) (Cramer's Take), the giant construction company, when asked if it could quantify the value of stimulus dollars currently in backlog, said "Really, the only stimulus funding we have seen directly has been the award that we got at Savannah River for some nuclear soil remediation. And, it was, I would say, we're less than $0.5 billion."
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: China's industrial focus helps lots of U.S. names

Cramer on BloggingStocks: China's industrial focus helps lots of U.S. names originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 09:30:00 EST. TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says you take your life into your own hands if you fade the opening in today's market.

A year ago with the futures up, all you could think of is how much you wanted to "fade" that opening, how great it would be just to lay out any shorts into strength. You could choose pretty much anything going into earnings season.

The techs? Last good quarter. The banks? A travesty. You didn't even know if the banks you are short would survive. The oils? Free fall. The metals? Amazing downward pressure coming from hedge fund redemptions. The insurers? Will they make it? Retail? The balance sheets looked terrible going into what would be a terrible holiday selling season. The autos and auto-related? Disaster.
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: It's a mistake to fade 'em now

Cramer on BloggingStocks: It's a mistake to fade 'em now originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 09:50:00 EST. Or is it bigger? Much bigger? That's what I am thinking about this Chinese earthquake.

Katrina distorted the U.S.'s growth pattern for more than a full year. The raw materials, the effort, the work, the reconstruction affected businesses from small-scale retail to refining and infrastructure.

We don't really know how China works, although a lot of people tell us they do. To me, the Chinese are always a day away from revolution or civil war and the trick of the government is to stay one step ahead of the posse. (Chinese hands will dispute that, but you have to appreciate that it takes a special skill to be wrong for more than a century and still maintain credibility.)

That means massive reconstruction: bricks, lumber, cement, steel and all the trimmings. Massive imports, not controlled by the Chinese and their little negotiation games like they play with iron and steel and coal. Just full-bore buying and something that could take growth for China back to the levels that everyone thought it couldn't absorb without more inflation.
Continue reading Cramer on BloggingStocks: Earthquake recovery can change China

Cramer on BloggingStocks: Earthquake recovery can change China originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 14 May 2008 09:30:00 EST.
