Outlook for Verizon's Mobile Plan Pricing

Verizon (VZ) logoVerizon (VZ) primarily competes with Sprint Nextel (S) and AT&T (T) in the mobile subscription plan business. The average monthly fee that Verizon's postpaid wireless subscribers pay for wireless service, excluding data service, has been consistently declining over the past few years. The decline in pricing is mainly attributable to nearing saturation of the U.S. cellular market, creating fierce competition among telecom players to maintain and increase their market share.

A successful Verizon-iPhone (AAPL) deal and rising data revenues from smart phone penetration could, however, offset declines in average mobile plan prices.

AT&T Gets Another Black Eye as iPhones Unavailable in NYC over Weekend

AT&T (T) continues to baffle the wireless industry. It has seen such incredible success with the Apple (AAPL) iPhone for over two years. In a classic tale of a double-edged sword, the phone has been so popular -- and officially limited to only AT&T customers -- that AT&T's wireless network has been overwhelmed in many populous areas. Two famous ones: San Francisco and New York City.

The advanced 3G service made famous by the iPhone 3G has continually faltered for millions of iPhone customers in those areas and more, no matter what spin AT&T puts on the scenario.

Verizon talking to Microsoft about iPhone rival partnership? Here we go again.

Verizon Wireless, a division of Verizon Communications, Inc. (NYSE: VZ), and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) may be partnering soon to take on the Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone. The iPhone, which has re-defined the mobile handset and has racked up huge sales worldwide in the 22 months in existence, needs a strong competitor. So far, all the iPhone "killers" have been anything but.
