The market apparently loved the data in the fourth-quarter report. With a little more than an hour to go before the end of the regular session, I'm seeing a quote of $57.37. That puts the gain in the shares at 7.4%. Volume is quite strong.<br />
<br />
The 52-week low for this retailer is $29.94 and the 52-week high is $58.50. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys/tech-chart">chart</a> shows the upward movement in the stock over the last twelve months. Not the smoothest rise ever plotted on a graph, but a rise nonetheless.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/16/abercrombie-and-fitch-near-52-week-high-after-q4-report/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Abercrombie &amp; Fitch Near 52-Week High After Q4 Report</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/16/abercrombie-and-fitch-near-52-week-high-after-q4-report/">Abercrombie &amp; Fitch Near 52-Week High After Q4 Report</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 16 Feb 2011 17:30:00 EST. Many more quarterly reports from retailers are due this week, and by and large expectations of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters are high.</p>
<p>Walmart (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/wal-mart-stores-inc/wmt/nys" class="inlinked" target="_blank">WMT</a>), the king of retailers, is expected to buck the trend, though. Analysts anticipate that the Bentonville-based company will report that its third-quarter earnings grew only 6.7% year-over-year to 90 cents per share. During the three months that ended in October, Walmart announced an <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-announces-intent-to-acquire-south-africa-based-massmart/rfid371091986/?channel=pf" target="_blank">acquisition in South Africa</a> and kicked-off the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-announces-early-savings-on-toys-to-kick-off-holiday-shopping-season/rfid375966082/?channel=pf" target="_blank">holiday shopping season</a>, and revenue for that period is predicted to have risen 3.0% to $102.4 billion. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, analysts so far expect sequential and <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Year%20Over%20Year%20-%20YOY" target="_blank">year-over-year</a> growth of both earnings and revenue. Walmart results have not fallen short of consensus estimates in the past five quarters.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/14/week-in-preview-retailers-offer-up-earnings-wmt-anf-low-tgt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Retailers Offer Up Earnings (WMT, ANF, LOW, TGT)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/14/week-in-preview-retailers-offer-up-earnings-wmt-anf-low-tgt/">Week in Preview: Retailers Offer Up Earnings (WMT, ANF, LOW, TGT)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 14 Nov 2010 12:30:00 EST. Janney Montgomery initiated the equity, which counts Abercrombie &amp; Fitch (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys">ANF</a>) as a colleague, with a neutral rating and a <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Price%20Target">price target</a> of $5.<br />
<br />
I hadn't looked at the stock in a while so I pulled up the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/hot-topic-inc/hott/nas/tech-chart">one-year chart</a>. You know what? It isn't hot. Maybe it was hot at times, but since mid-April, the graphic indicates that the stock is ailing. The <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/52-Week%20High,52-Week%20Low">52-week high</a> for the shares is $9.96; the <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/52-Week%20High,52-Week%20Low">52-week low</a> is $4.58. Yesterday, the company closed at $4.87. Yes, it's a single-digit situation we're talking about.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/25/hot-topic-best-to-avoid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hot Topic: Not So Hot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/25/hot-topic-best-to-avoid/">Hot Topic: Not So Hot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 25 Aug 2010 09:30:00 EST. At the time of this writing, shares of the retailer were down over 7% to $34.89. Wow, down 7%! Volume is very active, as well. The second-quarter earnings report is the apparent culprit behind the selling slaughter.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/real-estate/abercrombie-and-fitch-reports-earnings-of-19-5-million/19596548/">numbers</a> don't look so terrible. The company reported net income of 22 cents per share versus a net loss of 30 cents per share in the year-ago frame. Analysts called for 16 cents per share, according to our <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/15/earnings-preview-walmart-abercrombie-dollar-tree/">preview piece</a>.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/17/abercrombie-and-fitch-down-on-q2-results/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Abercrombie &amp; Fitch Down on Q2 Results</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/17/abercrombie-and-fitch-down-on-q2-results/">Abercrombie &amp; Fitch Down on Q2 Results</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 14:40:00 EST. Already, JCPenney (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/penney-j-c-co-inc-holding-co/jcp/nys" class="inlinked">JCP</a>), Kohl's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/kohl-s-corporation/kss/nys" class="inlinked">KSS</a>) and Macy's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/macy-s-inc/m/nys">M</a>) have posted earnings that topped consensus estimates, though the former two also offered disappointing guidance, and Nordstrom (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nordstrom-inc/jwn/nys">JWN</a>) met earnings expectations.</p>

<p>Net sales for the fiscal quarter increased 17% compared to a year ago to $745.8 million, with store-sales up 5%. Time to declare your independence from fear. Specifically, the fear of holding risk in your portfolio. Ergo, I list four stocks here that investors should perhaps keep on a watch list. The choice is yours, but maybe you might find something of interest in these four.</p>
<p><strong>Abercrombie &amp; Fitch</strong> (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys">ANF</a>): This stock is most definitely a risk, make no mistake about it. Being a retailer based on fashion, how can it not be in the current climate? Yet, back in May, the company's <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/18/abercrombie-and-fitch-trade-or-stay-away/">first-quarter numbers</a> didn't seem so bad (although they didn't comprise the best data set I've ever seen, either). And the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> shows that Friday's closing price of $31.11 is getting close to recent support levels.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/04/four-risky-stocks-for-the-fourth/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Four Risky Stocks for the Fourth: ANF, BBY, DWA, NWS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/04/four-risky-stocks-for-the-fourth/">Four Risky Stocks for the Fourth: ANF, BBY, DWA, NWS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 04 Jul 2010 14:40:00 EST. Fans of the old-school Abercrombie &amp; Fitch (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys" class="inlinked">ANF</a>) catalog have something to giggle about. After seven long years, the risque quarterly featuring scantily clad young adults is <a target="_blank" href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/06/25/BU871E4VCF.DTL&amp;feed=rss.business">being reinstated</a>. And even though the catalog is ostensibly just marketing itself -- advertising the clothes that the models are barely wearing -- it will cost you $10 (it is available for pre-order now at the Abercrombie website and will hit shelves July 17). <br />
<br />
When the recession hit and allowances dried up, ANF suffered even more than most of its peers as teens and young adults offered for similarly trendy fashion at cheaper prices, turning to the Gap's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/gap-inc-del/gps/nys">GPS</a>) Old Navy, Aeropostale (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/aeropostale-inc/aro/nys" class="inlinked">ARO</a>), and American Eagle (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/american-eagle-outfitters-inc/aeo/nys" class="inlinked">AEO</a>) as substitutes. After months of resistance (or denial), ANF finally cut the prices on some items, but it is still facing lackluster sales and revenue numbers. The shares, meanwhile, are down 50% over the last two years.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/29/abercrombie-and-fitch-controversial-catalog/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sex(y) Sells: Abercrombie Bringing Back Controversial Catalog</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/29/abercrombie-and-fitch-controversial-catalog/">Sex(y) Sells: Abercrombie Bringing Back Controversial Catalog</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 29 Jun 2010 10:40:00 EST. American Eagle is a retailer whose colleagues include Abercrombie &amp; Fitch Co. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys">ANF</a>) and The Gap Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/gap-inc-del/gps/nys">GPS</a>), and it is down well over 3% to $12.15 as I write this during the afternoon trading session. That share price is significant, because the 52-week low on the stock is $12.15 (so far), and the low was made today.<br />
<br />
As we all know, 52-week lows are interesting because they could signal that it's time to buy. They're risky, though, because you don't want to be catching falling knives. You have to figure out what's been driving the decline and why you might want to suddenly become a contrarian on the thesis.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/04/american-eagle-outfitters-hits-52-week-low/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>American Eagle Outfitters Hits 52-Week Low</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/04/american-eagle-outfitters-hits-52-week-low/">American Eagle Outfitters Hits 52-Week Low</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Jun 2010 16:00:00 EST. Crew Group (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/j-crew-group-inc/jcg/nys">JCG</a>), a mall entity whose neighbors include Abercrombie &amp; Fitch (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys">ANF</a>), Gap (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/gap-inc-del/gps/nys">GPS</a>), and JCPenney (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/penney-j-c-co-inc-holding-co/jcp/nys">JCP</a>), has been trending higher over the last <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/j-crew-group-inc/jcg/nys/tech-chart">twelve months</a>. Unfortunately, it is no longer near its 52-week high of $50.96. The shares closed at a price of $43.86 on Thursday. Is the recent pullback a possible buying opportunity?<br />
<br />
Interestingly enough, Elizabeth Harrow, <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/26/speculation-heats-up-on-j-crew-ahead-of-earnings/">in a story previewing</a> yesterday's after-the-bell earnings report, mentioned Wall Street's current discouraging attitude about the retailer. This will obviously make some investors hesitant to buy the stock. Yet, I remember how the company issued a great <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/10/j-crew-posts-strong-q4-time-to-take-profits/">fourth-quarter summary</a> back in March. At the time, I said taking profits might not be such a bad idea, and that there was nothing in the rulebook that said you couldn't check in on the business at a later date. Well, the later date is here. What should we think now?<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/28/j-crew-groups-q1-income-and-comps-were-beyond-cool/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>J. My screen showed the shares down $1.72, or 4.2%, to $39.06. Volume, however, wasn't too bad with roughly a few hours to go before the close of the trading session; it was below the norm, but I do expect it to be above average by the time all is said and done. The company reported Q1 stats today, and that is obviously what's driving the bearish sentiment, in part at least.<br />
<br />
As can be seen from the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys/tech-chart">one-year chart</a>, the stock has sailed some choppy seas over the last several months. After hitting a 52-week high of over $50, the shares started to slide. Some of that weakness can be attributed to what's happening in the market vis-a-vis the Greece situation.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/18/abercrombie-and-fitch-trade-or-stay-away/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Abercrombie &amp; Fitch: Trade or Stay Away?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/18/abercrombie-and-fitch-trade-or-stay-away/">Abercrombie &amp; Fitch: Trade or Stay Away?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 18 May 2010 15:30:00 EST.
