(<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) only entered the mobile advertising market a few months ago, but the company has already been successful at taking away <a href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20017708-260.html">crucial mobile advertising revenue</a> from giants such as Yahoo! Sheryl Sandberg, the company's chief operating officer, is shooting for <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas" target="_blank">Google</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas" target="_blank">GOOG</a>). The <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/tag/socialnetworking/">social networking</a> company seeks its ad market as <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/ousivMolt/idUSTRE59F15Q20091016" target="_blank">rivaling (or even surpassing) Google's search ad market</a> in size. Facebook says it's on target to bring in $500 million in revenue this year (Sandberg didn't confirm it, though).</p>
<p>With its 300 million users, Sandberg has been trying to convince the world that her company has a solid business model in place. The perception that eyeballs don't necessarily equal dollars, born of the internet boom a decade ago, isn't necessarily true any more, as demonstrated by Google's ability to monetize <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/tag/search/">search</a> (and hit record profits) has demonstrated. For the third quarter of 2009, the search engine giant raked in net revenue of $4.38 billion.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/16/facebook-shoots-for-search-victory/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Facebook shoots for search victory</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/16/facebook-shoots-for-search-victory/">Facebook shoots for search victory</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 16 Oct 2009 12:20:00 EST. <p>I have watched this controversial advertisement for the Public Storage Co. over and over and I take no offense. Spike has portrayed it as <a href="http://www.spike.com/video/for-your/2936021">the most anti-Semitic "worst ever"</a> commercial, but I do not see it that way. Given my father is a survivor of the Holocaust (Warsaw Ghetto and all) and I have grown up with many accounts of murderous atrocities and learned of, and experienced, many more anti-Semitic accounts, I think Spike is way off base with this one.</p>

<p>In 2005, <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cke-restaurants-inc-united-states/ckr/nys">CKE Restaurants Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cke-restaurants-inc-united-states/ckr/nys">CKR</a>) outraged both social conservatives and lovers of music at the same time when its Carl's Jr. chain hired Paris Hilton to shill its new Spicy Burger. It set a new standard of tastelessness that will be difficult to equal.</p>
<p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P82hABWq1To&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P82hABWq1To&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></p>
<p>Conservatives -- most Americans actually -- find the fact that Paris Hilton is famous at all to be a offensive. Her main claim to fame comes from her appearance in a now-infamous sex tape. The appeal of her one-time hit show <em>The</em> <em>Simple Life</em> eluded me, but hey, I was not the target demographic. I am a 40-year-old married guy so I can't speak to her numerous other enterprises, such as the perfume <a href="http://www.bizrate.com/search__cat_id--1__keyword--paris+hilton.html">Heiress</a>. Her single "<a href="http://www.parishilton.com/">Stars Are Blind</a>" was not as awful as I thought it would be, but maybe I have gone tone deaf listening to too many Elmo songs. Parents of toddlers will understand.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/09/08/ads-gone-bad-was-paris-hilton-too-spicy-for-carls-jr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ads Gone Bad: Was Paris Hilton too spicy for Carl's Jr.?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/09/08/ads-gone-bad-was-paris-hilton-too-spicy-for-carls-jr/">Ads Gone Bad: Was Paris Hilton too spicy for Carl's Jr.?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 08 Sep 2008 08:00:00 EST. Instead of suggesting better oversight of the companies, the SEC is <a href="http://www.sec.gov/news/testimony/2008/ts071508cc.htm">going after</a> short sellers. <br /><br />For 30 days starting Monday, short-selling will be restricted on <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/16/business/16short.html?scp=1&amp;sq=short%20selling&amp;st=cse">19 financial companies</a>. Financial regulators are also cracking down on "<a href="http://www.finra.org/PressRoom/NewsReleases/2008NewsReleases/P038211">sensational rumors</a>." To put the short-selling rule in perspective, consider that even when the market re-opened after the September 11th attacks, the SEC <a href="http://www.sec.gov/news/testimony/092001tshlp.htm">considered</a>, but didn't implement, short sale restrictions.<br /><br />Since Bear Steans collapsed and <a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/08/bear_stearns200808">Vanity Fair</a> bought the company's story that short-sellers did them in, everyone is worried that short sellers are bringing the market down. And I'm sure they are, but short-selling, after all, is legal. The SEC just loosened rules on it last year.<br /> <br /> Yesterday, SEC chair Steven Cox <a href="http://www.sec.gov/news/testimony/2008/ts071508cc.htm">testified</a> that he's worried about short-selling in connection with spreading false rumors to manipulate the market. OK, that's not legal, but as Cox pointed out, the SEC brought its first case -- EVER -- for this sort of deception this year. And it still hasn't gone after anyone for spreading false positive rumors about a company.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/07/16/secs-lame-short-selling-move-means-bank-stocks-will-be-overvalu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SEC's lame short-selling move means bank stocks will be overvalued</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/07/16/secs-lame-short-selling-move-means-bank-stocks-will-be-overvalu/">SEC's lame short-selling move means bank stocks will be overvalued</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 17:06:00 EST.
