The company has seen steady growth in its profit margins over the past few years. <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Earnings%20Before%20Interest,%20Taxes,%20Depreciation%20and%20Amortization%20-%20EBITDA">EBITDA</a> margins have increased from 10.4% in 2005 to around 19% in 2009 as Aeropostale has generated growth in comparable store sales, a metric used to measure retail sales strength.</p>
<p>We expect this trend to continue as the company explores ways to further optimize its supply chain, thereby improving operational efficiency. However, increasing raw material prices and a prolonged weakness in consumer spending could pose a headwind to our optimistic EBITDA margin outlook.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/06/commodity-costs-weak-consumer-spending-could-dampen-aeropostale/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Commodity Costs, Weak Consumer Spending Could Dampen Aeropostale Margins</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/06/commodity-costs-weak-consumer-spending-could-dampen-aeropostale/">Commodity Costs, Weak Consumer Spending Could Dampen Aeropostale Margins</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 06 Mar 2011 13:40:00 EST. <p>"A financial crisis, severe recession, a supposedly 'tapped out' U.S. consumer -- none of it has been enough to derail Aeropostale (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/aeropostale-inc/aro/nys">ARO</a>), the New York City-based teen clothing retailer," says <a href="http://validea.com/home/home.asp">John Reese</a>.</p>
<p>The editor of <a href="http://validea.com/home/home.asp">Validea Hot List Newsletter</a> explains, "While other companies have struggled to survive in the past few years, the mall-based firm upped both earnings and sales in 2007, 2008, and 2009, and it's on track to do so again in 2010.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/08/top-picks-2011-aeropostale-aro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Top Picks 2011: Aeropostale (ARO)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/08/top-picks-2011-aeropostale-aro/">Top Picks 2011: Aeropostale (ARO)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 08 Jan 2011 13:00:00 EST. And, no, I don't mean fans of the store itself; I'm referring to those who own the stock.<br />
<br />
This is one scary session for the mall retailer, make no mistake about it. The stock closed Thursday's session at $23.04, which means that it was off by 14%. Volume is very high. On Wednesday, the company reported earnings for the third quarter. According to <em><a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20101201-715718.html">The Wall Street Journal</a></em>, Aeropostale made 63 cents per share, but that included a charge of four cents; excluding the latter, it looks as if management beat expectations <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=aro">by a penny</a>.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/03/aeropostale-buy-the-sell-off-or-not/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Aeropostale: Buy the Sell-Off or Not?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/03/aeropostale-buy-the-sell-off-or-not/">Aeropostale: Buy the Sell-Off or Not?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 03 Dec 2010 10:00:00 EST. They seemed relatively decent to me, even though they didn't measure up to the previous year's performance.</p>
<p>Last month, the company saw a 3% expansion in the metric, according to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/aeropostale-reports-september-sales-results-same-store-sales-increase-3percent/rfid374541875/?channel=pf">press release</a>. By comparison, same-store sales rose 19% in September 2009. Hey, don't fret about it. You're not going to generate growth like that all the time; it just doesn't happen. A 3% increase is fine considering the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/category/economy/" class="inlinked">economy</a>. On a year-to-date basis, comps are higher by 4% versus a gain of 12% in last year's similar frame.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/09/aeropostale-september-same-store-sales/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Is Aeropostale a Buy After the Latest Comps Report?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/09/aeropostale-september-same-store-sales/">Is Aeropostale a Buy After the Latest Comps Report?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 09 Oct 2010 11:40:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/gap-inc-del/gps/nys">GPS</a>), was down this afternoon as the market digested the Q2 numbers that were released yesterday after the bell. With a little over two hours to go before the end of the session, shares of the business were off by 2.5% to $22.64. Volume, so far, was below average.</p>
<p>Perhaps the fact that the volume was relatively slow in coming is a good sign. Maybe the <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Net%20Income">net-income</a> stat is an even better sign. Quarterly sales increased 16% to $801.2 million, outpacing the consensus estimate of $795 million. <br />
<br />
Looking ahead, ARO forecast first-quarter earnings of 39 to 40 cents per share. The Street expected ARO to forecast earnings of 34 cents per share for the first quarter. This news prompted Piper Jaffray to upgrade the teen retailer to "neutral" from "underweight," assigning a new price target of $31 for the stock.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/12/aeropostale-sees-fourth-quarter-earnings-increase/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Aeropostale Sees Fourth-Quarter Earnings Increase</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/12/aeropostale-sees-fourth-quarter-earnings-increase/">Aeropostale Sees Fourth-Quarter Earnings Increase</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 12 Mar 2010 09:30:00 EST.
