Analyst upgrades:
- Banc of America/Merrill upgraded Gymboree (NASDAQ:GYMB) to Buy from Underperform and raised their target to $33 from $15 following the company's Q1 comparable store sales guidance.
- Oppenheimer upgraded Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) to Outperform from Perform after channel checks indicated the company's shipments are gaining momentum. The firm raised their price target on the stock to $35 from $20.
- Owens & Minor (NYSE:OMI) was raised to Outperform from Neutral at Credit Suisse. The firm upgraded shares but lowered their target to $45 from $46 citing underappreciated earnings growth and valuation.
- Albermarle (NYSE:ALB) was upgraded to Conviction Buy from Neutral at Goldman.
- Protective Life (NYSE:PL) was upgraded to Neutral from Sell at UBS.
- Maxim (NASDAQ:MXIM) was lifted to Buy from Hold at Canaccord.

Analyst upgrades:
- Cowen upgraded Aaron Rents (NYSE: RNT) to Outperform from Neutral and believes the company's business model is gaining momentum despite the difficult environment. The firm views valuation as attractive.
- Citigroup upgraded shares of MedCath (NASDAQ: MDTH) to Hold from Sell on valuation following the recent sell-off. The company's target was lowered to $9 from $19.
- Stanford upgraded AeroVironment (NASDAQ: AVAV) to Buy from Hold based on valuation and because they believe its visibility over the next year has improved.
- Chiquita Brands (NYSE: CQB) was lifted to Buy from Hold at BB&T.
- Chico's FAS (NYSE: CHS) was upgraded to Neutral from Sell at UBS.
- FCStone (NASDAQ: FCSX) was raised to Strong Buy from Outperform at Raymond James.
Analyst downgrades:
- RBC Capital downgraded Clearwire (NASDAQ: CLWR) to Sector Perform from Outperform based on reduced valuation parameters and lack of catalysts. The company's target was lowered to $9 from $15.
- Kellogg (NYSE: K) and Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) were cut to Neutral from Buy at UBS.
- Evergreen Solar (NASDAQ: ESLR) was downgraded at JP Morgan to Underweight from Neutral.
- Deutsche Telekom (NYSE: DT) was downgraded to Neutral from Buy at Goldman and to Hold from Buy at Deutsche Bank.

MOST NOTEWORTHY: The Department store sector, SanDisk and CNET Networks were today's noteworthy downgrades:
- Goldman downgraded the department store sector to Neutral from Attractive after raising its 2008 oil forecast to $149 from $115, as it believes higher gas prices will impact consumer discretionary spend and sentiment. Goldman downgraded JC Penney (NYSE: JCP) and Nordstrom (NYSE: JWN) to Neutral and also removed Kohl's (NYSE: KSS) from its Conviction Buy List.
- JMP Securities downgraded SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) to Underperform from Market Perform based on increased competition in NAND, a potential decline in royalty income, valuation, and lack of catalysts from flash-based solid state drives.
- CNET Networks (NASDAQ: CNET) was cut to Neutral from Buy at Banc of America following the tender offer from CBS (NYSE: CBS).
OTHER DOWNGRADES:
- Merrill downgraded Regions Financial (NYSE: RF) to Sell from Neutral.
- B. Riley downgraded Exar (NASDAQ: EXAR) to Neutral from Buy.
- Albermarle (NYSE: ALB) was lowered to Neutral from Overweight at JP Morgan.

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Disney, McClatchy News and McDonald's were today's noteworthy downgrades:
- Citigroup downgraded shares of Disney (NYSE: DIS) to Sell from Hold after their databases indicated a slowdown in Parks is likely. They believe the slowdown in Parks will be coupled with a broader ad slowdown and lowered their target to $26 from $36.
- Wachovia lowered its rating on McClatchy News (NYSE: MNI) to Market Perform from Outperform and has concerns that the California and Florida markets could weaken further.
- McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) was downgraded to Peer Perform from Outperform at Bear. The firm cited slowing US sales, international business sensitivity to the economy, and valuation.
