Here's his top ETF play on the sector.

"With every passing day the price of crude oil rises, the secular trend to alternative energy becomes even more powerful. Consumers, companies and governments are now sick and tired of soaring energy prices.

"The long-term solution is to obviously reduce our dependence on oil and increase our consumption of renewable fuels like wind, solar, and nuclear energy.

"The bull market in alternative energy began in 2005 when a host of companies in this thriving sector went public, supported by government subsidies, especially in Germany and Spain. Interestingly, Germany and Spain have just reduced solar energy subsidies this spring.

"In my view, those subsidy cuts don't matter at this stage. When companies in the solar sector are making money, why should governments continue subsidizing them?

Continue reading Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy: Time for a TAN

Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy: Time for a TAN originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 14 Jul 2008 13:01:00 EST.
The small-cap stock specialist and editor of the SC Trading Pit explains, "That's why we're adding a position in First Trust ISE Global Wind Energy ETF (NYSE: FAN), which lets you own 52 wind stocks at once."

"The nice thing about this ETF is that many of the holdings are non-US companies, meaning they're not reliant on news of green energy tax credits. But with the rest of the world investing in wind, we're given wider profit exposure. This is a great way to hold 50 up and coming stocks at $30 a pop.

"As oil prices stay high, the wind power and alternative energy themes are becoming increasingly popular, making the latest exchange-traded fund even more enticing.

"Just recently, the much-anticipated First Trust ISE Global Wind Energy ETF was launched. And not only will investors have an opportunity to profit from companies in the wind energy business, they can profit from companies that will soon enter the space.

Continue reading Blowin' in the wind: First Trust Global Wind Energy ETF (FAN)

Blowin' in the wind: First Trust Global Wind Energy ETF (FAN) originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 11:58:00 EST.
