  • RBC Capital upgraded Syniverse (SVR) to outperform from sector perform based on strong secular growth in mobile data and roaming. The firm raised its price target to $28 from $23.
  • Deutsche Bank upgraded PG&E (PCG) to buy from hold with a $49 price target due to valuation.
  • Jefferies assumed coverage on Sierra Wireless (SWIR) with a buy from a hold and raised its price target to $12 from $9. The analyst expects the M2M market to experience 25% growth over the next two years.

  • FBR Capital upgraded Overseas Shipholding (NYSE: OSG) to Outperform from Market Perform following the Q3 results as it believes the worst quarters are behind the company. The firm raised its target on shares to $48 from $35.
  • Deutsche Bank upgraded Corporate Executive Board (NASDAQ: EXBD) to Hold from Sell following the Q3 results to reflect the company's lower costs. The firm raised its target on shares to $22 from $18.
  • RBC Capital upgraded Enbridge (NYSE: EEQ) to Sector Perform from Underperform after the company's partnership produced significantly higher than expected DCF. In addition, the firm raised its price target by $5 per unit to $46 to reflect an improved distribution schedule and more favorable debt leverage.
  • Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS.A) was upgraded to Neutral from Underperform at Credit Suisse.
  • BioForm Medical (NASDAQ: BFRM) was upgraded to Overweight from Neutral at Piper Jaffray.
  • Alliance Data Systems (NYSE: ADS) was upgraded to Buy from Neutral at SunTrust.

Analyst upgrades:

  • Natixis expects Alcatel-Lucent's (NYSE: ALU) results to improve in 2H09, driven by the CDMA segment and completion of Lucent integration. Shares were upgraded to Buy from Reduce.
  • RBC Capital upgraded Canadian Pacific (NYSE: CP) to Outperform from Sector Perform and raised its target to $67 from $49. The firm expects a return to "normalized" operating environment driven by Potash and MetCoal.
  • Credit Suisse upgraded Affiliated Managers Group (NYSE: AMG) to Outperform from Neutral and raised its target to $69 from $64. The firm cites valuation, potential upside from 2H09 deals, and expectations for positive 2H09 flows for the upgrade.
  • Kennametal (NYSE: KMT) coverage was assumed with a Neutral from Underweight at JPMorgan.
  • Cardinal Financial (NASDAQ: CFNL) was upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at Baird.
  • General Maritime (NYSE: GMR) was upgraded to Outperform from Market Perform at FBR Capital.

Analyst upgrades, downgrades and initiations: DTV, LEA, MT, WMT, YHOO

Analyst upgrades:

  • Keefe Bruyette upgraded Affiliated Managers Group (NYSE: AMG) to Market Perform from Outperform to reflect the rebound in equity and fixed income markets as well as an attractive risk/reward profile. The firm raised its target on shares to $72 from $61.
  • Jefferies upgraded AGCO Corp. (NYSE: AGCO) to Buy from Hold as it believes equipment sales in Brazil are holding up better than expected and farm stimulus should set a floor in sales. The firm raised its target on shares to $36 from $25.
  • Deutsche Bank upgraded ArcelorMittal (NYSE: MT) to Buy from Hold to reflect reduced balance sheet risk and a more positive view on the steel sector. The raised its target on shares to $42 from $23
  • Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) was upgraded to Buy from Hold at Citigroup.
  • Synovus (NYSE: SNV) was raised to Buy from Neutral at SunTrust.
  • First American (NYSE: FAF) was lifted to Overweight from Equal Weight at Stephens.

Analyst downgrades: BJ, AMG and YHOO

MOST NOTEWORTHY: BJ's Wholesale, Affiliated Managers and Yahoo! were today's noteworthy downgrades:
  • Citigroup downgraded shares of BJ's Wholesale (NYSE: BJ) to Hold from Buy on valuation and views a takeout as less likely given the current credit market conditions.
  • Wachovia downgraded shares of Affiliated Managers (NYSE: AMG) to Market Perform from Outperform as they believe credit quality concerns and record commodity prices will hinder the company's recovery in equity flows.
  • Thomas Weisel downgraded Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) to Underweight from Market Weight based on visibility into fundamentals and another potential reorganization that will likely be met with skepticism.
OTHER DOWNGRADES:

Analyst upgrades: IP, ADSK, ORCL and VPRT

MOST NOTEWORTHY: International Paper, Autodesk, Oracle and Vistaprint were today's noteworthy upgrades:
  • Citigroup upgraded shares of International Paper (NYSE: IP) to Buy from Hold on valuation and their belief that recent declines in the dollar will support pulp, paper and paperboard prices going forward.
  • Autodesk (NASDAQ: ADSK) was upgraded to Buy from Hold at Jefferies after their proprietary survey yielded positive data points going into Q3. They also raised their estimates due to currency. Broadpoint raised its rating on Oracle to Buy from Neutral on valuation following the recent underperformance.
  • Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) was also upgraded to Sector Outperformer from Sector Performer at CIBC, as they believe the company's growing product portfolio, improving margins and successful acquisition strategy should continue to drive double-digit EPS gains.
  • William Blair added Vistaprint (NASDAQ: VPRT) to its Current Better Values List. The firm believes the company has a large market opportunity and expects its business momentum to continue. They view the recent weakness as a buying opportunity.
OTHER UPGRADES:

Analyst initiations 6-27-07: BEN, BLK, CMCSA, PHM and RYL

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Genesit Energy LP (GEL), EnerNoc (ENOC) and Comcast (CMCSA) were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Genesis Energy (AMEX: GEL) was initiated with a Buy rating and $40 target at Stanford, as the firm believes the company's affiliation with Denbury Resources and pending acquisition of petroleum products, terminals, and transportation businesses from the Davison family will drive rapid growth.
  • EnerNoc Inc (NASDAQ: ENOC) was initiated with a Hold rating and $42 target at Jefferies, due to valuation. EnerNoc was also initiated at Morgan Stanley with an Equal Weight rating and $40 target.
  • Stifel expects Comcast (OTC: CMCSA) to benefit from higher penetration levels of DVR and HDTV set-top boxes over the next several years and initiated shares with a Buy rating and $34 target.
