(<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys">AMR</a>) said it has reached an <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/american-airlines-and-expedia-reach-distribution-agreement/rfid430740421/?channel=pf">agreement with EXPE that will allow Expedia to offer American Airlines and American Eagle flights on its website</a>. Expedia had pulled AMR fares from its site in December after AMR began pushing the use of direct links to its own sites. If you think that the stock won't fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on EXPE.<br />
<br />
EXPE opened this morning at $23.50. So far today the stock has hit a low of $22.74 and a high of $23.55. As of 12:05, EXPE is trading at $23.11 up 0.68 (3.0%). The chart for EXPE looks bullish and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline">S&amp;P</a> gives EXPE a positive 5 STARS (out of 5) strong buy ranking.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/05/expedia-resumes-american-airlines-relationship/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Expedia Resumes American Airlines Relationship</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/05/expedia-resumes-american-airlines-relationship/">Expedia Resumes American Airlines Relationship</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 13:30:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys">AMR</a>), which owns American Airlines, is firmly out of favor this afternoon. With a little less than two hours to go before the market closes for the day, I see a quote of $7.77, which means that the stock is down over 6%. Volume is extremely active. <br />
<br />
The company released its fourth-quarter earnings report earlier today, which the market obviously isn't celebrating. According to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/american-airlines-parent-amr-loses-97m/572784/">Associated Press</a>, AMR Corp. lost 29 cents per share. While being in the red is never a good thing, it should be noted that Wall Street was projecting the net loss to come in at 36 cents per share.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/19/amr-sells-off-after-earnings-report/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AMR Sells Off After Earnings Report</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/19/amr-sells-off-after-earnings-report/">AMR Sells Off After Earnings Report</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 19 Jan 2011 17:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys">AMR</a>), parent of American Airlines, first discussed here <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/25/american-airlines-an-empty-shoebox-play/#continued">on June 25, 2009</a> at a price of $4.28?<br />
<br />
Those investors who can't tolerate the risk can consider selling a portion of their AMR position, and lock-in a cool 90% gain. However, those investors who can tolerate the risk can go for a possible larger gain.<br />
<br />
Note of caution: American Airlines is a high-risk stock, not suitable for moderate-risk/low-risk investors. Don't buy AMR if you can't tolerate losing 50% of your position's value: it could happen.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/21/american-airlines-rising-with-the-u-s-economy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>American Airlines: Rising with the U.S. Economy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/21/american-airlines-rising-with-the-u-s-economy/">American Airlines: Rising with the U.S. Economy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 21 Jun 2010 15:00:00 EST. Spirit Airlines, out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is going to start charging a fee on August 1, 2010. The only group that is not chagrined are probably the nudists that travel light when vacationing.<br />
<br />
Given all the fees the airlines are tacking on they might as well evolve into banks. Actually I think this is another instance where business has learned a bad lesson from government agencies. The government may require legislative action to raise taxes but bureaucrats the world over seem to be able to add new fees at will.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/09/spirit-airlines-adds-carry-on-fee-nudists-delight/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Spirit Airlines Adds Carry-on Fee -- Nudist's Delight?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/09/spirit-airlines-adds-carry-on-fee-nudists-delight/">Spirit Airlines Adds Carry-on Fee -- Nudist's Delight?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 17:00:00 EST. The alliance, dubbed "Oneworld Airline," would include partners British Airways (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/british-airways-plc-s-adr/bairy/nao">BAIRY</a>), Iberia Airlines, Finnair, Royal Jordanian Airlines and American Airlines (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys">AMR</a>).</p>
<p>Final approval by remains contingent upon certain conditions, including the requirement that the alliance relinquish a percentage of its highly valued takeoff and landing slots at London's Heathrow Airport. Members of the alliance have also offered the possibility of sharing transatlantic routes with competitors in an effort to quell fears of unfair competition which are being expressed from within the European Union.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/15/airline-alliance-set-to-clear-antitrust-hurdle/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Airline Alliance Set to Clear Antitrust Hurdle</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/15/airline-alliance-set-to-clear-antitrust-hurdle/">Airline Alliance Set to Clear Antitrust Hurdle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 11:20:00 EST. Tom noted that AMR has become "about as low-rent as one could imagine." Well, get ready to hold an even lower opinion of AMR as late Wenesday it announced that it is going to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/business/6861050.html">start charging $50 for coach standby</a>. <br />
<br />
The airline announced that the only people able to fly standby for free starting February 22 will be "elite frequent fliers, travelers in first or business class, military personnel and people who bought pricey coach tickets." Anyone else switching flights on their day of travel will be paying $50 to get a "confirmed seat."<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/11/american-airlines-keeps-tacking-on-charges/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>American Airlines Keeps Tacking On Charges</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/11/american-airlines-keeps-tacking-on-charges/">American Airlines Keeps Tacking On Charges</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 11:50:00 EST. I can stomach paying to check bags and for snacks. To me, it makes sense, as they provide important revenue streams and strike me as products and services for which it's possible to charge with little disruption to the passenger experience. <br />
<br />
But, as of May 1, 2010, <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/travel/2010-02-09-american09_ST_N.htm" target="_blank">the airline will be charging $8 for a blanket and inflatable neck pillow on flights lasting more than two hours</a> - including flights to Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. But, for your trouble, American will toss in a $10 coupon towards a purchase of more than $30 from Bed Bath &amp; Beyond (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/bed-bath-and-beyond-inc/bbby/nas" target="_blank">BBBY</a>). <br />
<br />
Of course, on flights lasting less than two hours, American's policy is BYO. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.gadling.com/2010/02/09/american-airlines-removes-free-blankets/">If you want to stay warm, cram your own blanket into your carry-on</a>.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/09/amr-finds-new-way-to-nickel-and-dime-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AMR Finds New Way to Nickel and Dime You</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/09/amr-finds-new-way-to-nickel-and-dime-you/">AMR Finds New Way to Nickel and Dime You</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 09:40:00 EST. Moreover, the prospect of moderating oil prices in 2010 and the fact that the worst travel sector conditions have already been priced into the stock are big reasons why I'm reiterating my buy rating for AMR Corp. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys">AMR</a>), parent of American Airlines, and first recommended <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/14/american-airlines-a-play-with-promise-but-also-with-high-risk/">on June 22, 2009</a>, at a price of $4.28.</p>
<p>And so far, the AMR call is paying off: If you bought AMR in June, you're up an impressive 90%. If not, don't fret: there's more upside ahead.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/26/american-airlines-will-be-among-the-u-s-airline-sector-s-surviv/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>American Airlines Will Be Among the U.S. Airline Sector's Survivors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/26/american-airlines-will-be-among-the-u-s-airline-sector-s-surviv/">American Airlines Will Be Among the U.S. Airline Sector's Survivors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 26 Dec 2009 17:10:00 EST. Richard Anderson, CEO of Delta Airlines (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/delta-air-lines-inc-del/dal/nys" target="_blank">DAL</a>), says that <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2009-12-15-delta-more-mergers_N.htm" target="_blank">the airline industry could consolidate further</a> -- not exactly a shock in an industry that is known for universal financial suffering. <p>The only concern, of course, is whether the <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/tag/Obamaadministration/">Obama administration</a> would sign off on any future deals. The carrier's parent company, <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys" target="_blank">AMR Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/amr-corporation/amr/nys" target="_blank">AMR</a>), reported a third quarter loss of $359 million, largely because there aren't as many business travelers taking to the skies. Corporate travel budgets in all industries are having an effect on all airlines, including AMR.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2009-10-21-american-third-quarter-loss_N.htm" target="_blank">Revenue plunged 20.2%</a> year-over-year for the third quarter for the nation's second airline. The loss comes after a $31 million gain last year. This quarter's losses would have been slightly better if write-downs for sold or grounded aircraft were excluded -- the loss would have been $265 million (93 cents a share) on revenue of $5.09 billion. With the write-downs, revenue clocked in at $5.13 billion. Cheaper fuel made the quarter a little easier for AMR to bear, as well, with this expense down 47% year-over-year.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/22/amr-q3-could-have-been-worse-airtran-solid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AMR: Q3 could have been worse; AirTran solid</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/22/amr-q3-could-have-been-worse-airtran-solid/">AMR: Q3 could have been worse; AirTran solid</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 09:40:00 EST.
