Four Plays on 3-D: IMAX, RLD, DLB, TDSC

3D HDTV"In only a few years, 3-D will have a third of the TV market and a sizable chunk of the box office. I have no doubt that this will be one of the 'Next Big Things'," suggests Andy Obermueller.

The editor of Game-Changing Stocks explains, "Here, I review the overall market as well as the four best stock plays in the sector. I see each of these stocks as having serious growth potential as 3-D technology takes off.

"3-D functionality is becoming increasingly available on many high-end TVs. Last year was the first year that 3-D TVs were available; manufacturers sold 3.2 million 3-D sets vs. 247 million HDTVs.

Four Favorites in Digital Medical Records

medical records"Digital medical records are coming; the question of whether these systems are going to be adopting isn't an "if" but a "when" question," says Andy Obermueller.

The editor of Game-Changing Stocks explains, "Here, we look at the companies that are going to dominate the industry, which I believe will be one of the hottest sectors of 2011.

"The cost savings are significant -- hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Reducing this waste would go a long way to slowing the growth of healthcare costs.

Top Picks 2011: Dyadic International (DYAI)

Dyadic logoThis post is one in a series in which more than 60 newsletter advisors share their Top Stock Picks for 2011. This special report is courtesy of TheStockAdvisors.com.

"The 'sleeper' story of 2011 will be cellulosic ethanol, a biofuel made from the sugar in plants (instead of the starch in corn)," says Andy Obermueller.

The editor of Fast-Track Millionaire explains, "New EPA rules increase the amount of ethanol that can be blended with gasoline by +50%, and federal law calls for the nation to produce gobs of this so-called 'advanced biofuel.'

Digital Medical Records Boost Quality Systems (QSII)

QSI logo"President Obama's push into digital medical records could lead to a profit surge for Quality Systems (QSII)," says Andy Obermueller, an adviser who specializes in analyzing the investment opportunities related to new government programs and legislation.

The editor of Government-Driven Investing explains, "Better access to records will show doctors a more complete view of their patients, reduce error and prevent redundant tests.

"In my view, it is not a question of if medical service providers are going to buy these system, it's a question of when. And the cost savings of digital medical records could be significant.

Capstead Mortgage (CMO): Low Beta, High Yield

"Capstead Mortgage (CMO) borrows for the short term at low cost -- rolling loans among a handful of big banks -- while lending money for the long term at a higher rate," says Andy Obermueller.

The editor of Government-Driven Investing -- which finds stocks positioned to benefit from changes in government policies and regulations -- explains, "Capstead, organized as a real-estate investment trust, keeps the spread for its troubles, and pays out 95% of its net earnings to shareholders. The result is a good defensive stock to help protect your portfolio.

"One of the things the government did to make sure that the housing market didn't crater even more than it had was to step in and guarantee certain mortgages. If the borrower defaulted, Uncle Sam would step in, like a co-signer, and make good on the loan.

Apple (AAPL): Is the iPad a Reason to Buy?

Earlier this week,, I posted a bullish post on Apple (AAPL), in which analyst Geoff Seiler called the stock a huge bargain for the longer-term investor (see Apple: Another blowout quarter).

Following yesterday's announcment for the iPad, Andy Obermueller in his Government-Driven Investing, asks, "Is the new iPad a reason to buy the stock?" Here's his well-thought-out analysis."

Cutting through the hype and the niftiness of the device -investors need to ask themselves will people buy the device and will it have a significant effect on Apple's revenue?

Praxair (PX): The 'race' for carbon capture

"The U.S. Energy Department is sponsoring a race to develop an obscure industrial process -- carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) -- and the winners of the race will receive $1.4 billion -- yes, billion, with a B," says Andy Obermueller.

In Government-Driven Investing, he says, "My pick to profit from among the 12 companies selected to compete in this scientific 'Olympiad' is Praxair (NYSE: PX)."

"This industrial-gas company owns hundreds of CCS patents, technology that could turn a coal-fired power plant -- about the dirtiest thing in the world, emissions-wise -- into one of the cleanest.

Praxair (PX): Clean coal play on cap-and-trade

Andy Obermueller is the chief investment strategist of an intriguing new service that focuses on developing government legislation to find investment opportunities.

In his Government-Driven Investing the advisor looks at Praxair (NYSE: PX) as a play on clean coal technology, more-technically known as carbon capture and sequestration. Here, he explains the opportunity:

"U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu recently announced an $8.4 million project to ensure that the nation's innovators are up to speed on the latest carbon-capture and sequestration technology.

China online gaming: Another vote for Shanda (SNDA)

This post is part of a featured report on stocks in the Chinese online gaming sector.

"China's online gaming market is slated to surge," says Andy Obermueller, an analyst with Street Authority's newly-launched advisory service, Government-Driven Investing.

"In China, internet users understand and embrace the 'come, stay, pay' model; that's where a site allows users to access a few things for free, but they have to pony up for the good stuff.

"This works particularly well with games. One of the leaders in this space is Shanda Interactive Entertainment (NASDAQ: SNDA). Gamers at its site use prepaid cards -- available at more than 320,000 vendors -- to add money to player accounts that can be used to access all of the features of its games.
