Bookstores disappearing, music stores almost gone, video stores all but done -- and GameStop Corp. (GME) is next. Yes, it's days are numbered, we just don't know what that number is yet.
I have been pondering this for a while, off and on, and did a very limited survey of two teenage boys -- mine -- asking them their thoughts about GameStop. The 17-year-old was playing a game on his Apple (AAPL) MacBook Pro at the time. He said he downloads free games or buys them, but all from the Web. He knew he could buy used games inexpensively at GameStop but had never done so and thought this business activity would fade.
The 14-year-old was also on his Mac, using FaceBook and YouTube. He said he had been to GameStop with friends in the past but never bought anything. Both boys use their cell phones to play games in the car.

While this is not the first time that Apple has teamed up with outside retailers, Target is the largest retailer to date that has agreed to sell the iPad.
You can already buy iPad in some Best Buy stores, and the company has announced that starting this Sunday it will be selling the device at all of its U.S. stores. In addition to facing competition from Best Buy Co., Inc. (BBY), Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT) is also rumored to begin selling iPads in stores soon.

It's the Fourth of July. Time to declare your independence from fear. Specifically, the fear of holding risk in your portfolio. Ergo, I list four stocks here that investors should perhaps keep on a watch list. The choice is yours, but maybe you might find something of interest in these four.
Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF): This stock is most definitely a risk, make no mistake about it. Being a retailer based on fashion, how can it not be in the current climate? Yet, back in May, the company's first-quarter numbers didn't seem so bad (although they didn't comprise the best data set I've ever seen, either). And the one-year chart shows that Friday's closing price of $31.11 is getting close to recent support levels.

You may be interested in buying an HDMI cable or a cell phone from RadioShack (
RSH), but it looks like a few private equity companies and one competitor may be interested in buying the entire company. According to dealReporter, RadioShack had set a July 1 deadline for non-binding indications of interest from any company that was looking at buying the company.
Analysts are speculating that the same private equity companies that were mentioned in a June 1
New York Post article -- Blackstone Group, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Bain Capital and TPG -- might still be interested in the consumer electronic retailer. That same article also mentioned that Best Buy Co., Inc. (
BBY) may be interested in clearing the competitive landscape by acquiring RadioShack.

With all the mixed signals driving uncertainty and worry lately, the consensus has been a foggy windshield with no clear direction. We can't even tell if one of the largest bear market rallies in history is fizzling or pausing.
On Wall Street, uncertainty is certainly a buzz killer for the irrationally exuberant. If you need a towel to wipe away the fog, take a look at

Best Buy (BBY) is living on cloud nine these days. It's principal competitor, Circuit City, went belly-up over a year ago and retailing behemoth Walmart (WMT) still can't match (yet) Best Buy's consumer electronics product depth or presentation. That doesn't mean Best Buy's aggressive moves into mobile and services are the only two legs the retailing giant is relying on.
The retailer's moves into mall kiosks and nontraditional retail areas is helping attract more female shoppers, something the traditional consumer electronics retail segments largely forgets. While Best Buy sells 22% of the consumer electronics products in the U.S., only 16% of women buy their consumer electronics there.
