Then other creators like Blackrock Inc. (<a href="http//www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/blackrock-inc/blk/nys">BLK</a>) joined in, creating ETFs for commodities as well as exotic ones that double and triple returns. They are called 2x and 3x shares.</p>
<p>When first introduced, ETFs were shunned, mainly because investors knew little about the way they worked. Slowly, they gained momentum, and now there are some 260 such funds trading $40 billion globally. On some days, more than four out of ten trades on U.S. stock exchanges involve ETFs.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/02/the-new-world-of-etfs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The New World of ETFs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/02/the-new-world-of-etfs/">The New World of ETFs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 02 Jul 2010 13:30:00 EST. In fact, according to the firm's <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&amp;sid=admYlVLU2zog">Q3 report</a>, earnings spiked 46% to $317 million, or $2.27 per share (although, a part of this came from a tax benefit).</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/20/blackrock-is-solid-as-a-rock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BlackRock is solid as a rock</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/20/blackrock-is-solid-as-a-rock/">BlackRock is solid as a rock</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 13:20:00 EST. In fact, BLK shares are up 188% over the past five years. More recently, the company's shares are up over 50% in the past six months.</p>
<p>BlackRock is an asset management firm that provides portfolio management services to corporate and public pension plans. It also manages pension funds for insurance companies, mutual funds, endowments, and private foundations. You might say that BlackRock is the money manager of choice if you've got a really big pension fund in need of the best money managers around.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/04/real-bargain-stock-6-blackrock-blk/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Real bargain stock #6: BlackRock (BLK)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/04/real-bargain-stock-6-blackrock-blk/">Real bargain stock #6: BlackRock (BLK)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 04 Oct 2009 09:00:00 EST. <p>This is especially true in the stock market, where you definitely get what you pay for.</p>
<p>There have been plenty of low-priced deals on stocks lately, as plenty of good companies watched their shares take a beating in our economic crisis. Well, banks continue to post profits. Look at <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/barclays-plc-adr/bcs/nys">Barclays PLC</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/barclays-plc-adr/bcs/nys">BCS</a>), which today <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/5965016/Barclays-profits-set-to-reignite-bonus-debate.html">reported</a> a $3.15 billion profit for the first half of 2009.</p>
<p>Why the growth? Interestingly enough, Barclays got a big boost from its investment banking division (which is focused on mergers &amp; acquisitions, public offerings and capital raises). Keep in mind that the company purchased the U.S. operations of Lehman Brothers.</p>
<p>And the strength is no fluke. Other major banks -- such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-goldman-sachs-group-inc/gs/nys">Goldman Sachs</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-goldman-sachs-group-inc/gs/nys">GS</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/credit-suisse-group/cs/nys">Credit Suisse</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/credit-suisse-group/cs/nys">CS</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPMorgan Chase</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPM</a>) -- also posted strong results with investment banking.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/03/for-barclays-dealmaking-saves-the-day/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>For Barclays, dealmaking saves the day</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/03/for-barclays-dealmaking-saves-the-day/">For Barclays, dealmaking saves the day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 03 Aug 2009 12:20:00 EST. At the time, he gave some frank advice; that is, he warned that investors needed to be very cautious.</p>
<p>Of course, it was spot-on (and saved me lots of money). And, I'm sure Fink's investors also appreciated the counsel.</p>
<p>Well, this week BlackRock became the king of asset management because of its <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=aP8IpRzYSu2o">$13.5 billion acquisition</a> of <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/barclays-plc/bcs/nys">Barclays Global Investors</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/barclays-plc/bcs/nys">BCS</a>). And for better or worse, numbers from the big financials have begun to roll in. Last week we saw profit sink for <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jpmorgan-and-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPMorgan Chase</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jpmorgan-and-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPM</a>) and significant losses from <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-of-america-corporation/bac/nys">Bank of American Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-of-america-corporation/bac/nys">BAC</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/citigroup-incorporated/c/nys">Citigroup Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/citigroup-incorporated/c/nys">C</a>), and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/deutsche-bank-ag-germany/db/nys">Deutsche Bank</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/deutsche-bank-ag-germany/db/nys">DB</a>).</p>
<p>Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-bank-of-new-york-mellon-corporation/bk/nys">Bank of New York Mellon Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-bank-of-new-york-mellon-corporation/bk/nys">BK</a>) to be among those financials reporting fourth-quarter earnings growth this week. They anticipate that Bank of New York will post a profit of $0.70 per share, compared to $0.67 per share a year ago and $0.72 in the previous quarter. Revenue is expected come to $3.8 billion, about the same as it was a year ago. Bank of New York has fallen short of earnings estimates in two of the past five quarters, by as much as 11.1%. For the full year, analysts are looking for $2.78 per share (+5.8%) on $14.8 billion (+4.2%). The consensus recommendation of analysts is to buy BK, and the long-term EPS growth rate forecast is 10.7%. Shares are 48.7% lower than a year ago. Other financials expected to report quarterly earnings growth this week include <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/suntrust-banks-inc/sti/nys">SunTrust Banks Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/suntrust-banks-inc/sti/nys">STI</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/mandt-bank-corporation/mtb/nys">M&amp;T Bank Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/mandt-bank-corporation/mtb/nys">MTB</a>).</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/01/18/the-week-in-preview-financials-techs-lead-off-earnings-crunch/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The week in preview: Financials, techs lead off earnings crunch</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/01/18/the-week-in-preview-financials-techs-lead-off-earnings-crunch/">The week in preview: Financials, techs lead off earnings crunch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 18 Jan 2009 12:30:00 EST.
