OPEC Comfortable with Crude Prices

OPEC logoAre you comfortable with the price you are paying to fuel your vehicles? If so, good; if not, you better look for an alternative fuel vehicle. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced earlier today that it is "comfortable" with the current prices for black gold and that it doesn't want to "rock the boat" as the economy attempts to recover from the recession.

I assume that the members of OPEC then lit cigars with $20 bills and sat around sipping brandy from gold snifters while laughing uproariously. OPEC's Secretary General Abdalla El-Badri noted a sense of caution, because the cartel is trying to help the world economy. El-Badri stated that the path of the world recovery is "not really clear," and that OPEC doesn't "want to see a double-dip recession which ... would affect, negatively, almost everybody." Any change in prices or quotas this year will depend on unnamed "circumstances" according to the Secretary General.

Nokia sues LCD makers for price fixing

This morning, Nokia (NOK) -- primarily known for its presence in the mobile phone arena -- announced that it is filing suits against some liquid crystal display (LCD) makers. NOK believes that these LCD producers are engaging in a bit of price fixing. It filed suits in the U.S. and Britain last month.

NOK believes that a group of manufacturers was fixing the prices of LCDs that the company uses in its handsets and of cathode ray tubes. The company said that it "has filed suits to recover overcharges it paid as a result of cartel activities which are currently under governmental investigation."

Dr. Pepper's Public Head-bang Band: oddvertising at its best

Dr. Pepper's (Cadbury-Schweppes PLC, NYSE:CSG) longtime 10-2-4 slogan might become 24-7 as they launch a new promotion, Dr. Pepper Band in a Bubble, in cooperation with MTV. Beginning May 24th, the pop band Cartel will live around the clock for 20 days in a transparent domicile on Pier 54 in New York while they put together a new CD. MTV will compile the best of the video captured by cameras placed throughout the edifice into four half-hour broadcasts. The full feeds will also be available throughout the session via the internet.

The idea of packing a house with incandescent personalities and recording their meltdowns is tired fare for television, the most notable being CBS' Big Brother. Rock stars are well-mined too, as witnessed by Kiss frontman Gene Simmon's Family Jewels and Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne's The Osbournes. What we haven't seen before is a group of artists working in harmony to produce sterling music. That's probably the Doctor's biggest worry, though -- harmony makes poor television. There's a reason Anna Nicole Smith had her own TV show and Jamie Lee Curtis didn't.

The concept comes from the Mediaedge:cia agency. The five-person group is from Atlanta, and best known for their song "Honestly" (see below). I'd give you odds of 10 to 4 that it's no coincidence that their guitarist's name is Joseph Pepper.
