Closing Bell: A Pleasant and Quiet Friday (ALTH, BP, CBAK, LULU, PM, PCG, DELL)

Today was one of those days that felt more dependent upon overseas markets than one of those 'must watch' days full of economic data. There was a larger-then-expected build in wholesale inventories that outpaced sales, although that wholesale trade data rarely moves markets very much.

Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:

Analyst upgrades:

Goldman upgraded Gerdau AmeriSteel (NYSE: GNA) to Buy from Neutral and has a $5.50 target on shares. Shares were upgraded due to the potential impact from infrastructure spending. Note that Goldman downgraded Steel Dynamics (NYSE: STLD) and Olympic Steel (NYSE: ZEUS) to Neutral from Buy.
Banc of America/Merrill upgraded Coca-Cola Enterprises (NYSE: CCE) to Buy from Neutral and raised the price target to $18 from $15. The firm the strong Q1 report gives them greater confidence in shares.
Roth Capital upgraded Halozyme (NASDAQ: HALO) to Buy from Hold due to increased clarity into Roche programs, the discontinuation of the chemophase program, and progress on insulin delivery.
American Movil (NYSE: AMX) was raised to Overweight from Neutral at JP Morgan and to Hold from Sell at Citigroup.
Barclays (NYSE: BCS) and Lloyds TSB Group (NYSE: LYG) were upgraded at HSBC to Overweight from Neutral.

Analyst downgrades 2-12-07: Embarq, Garmin & Boyd Gaming all downgraded

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Embarq Corp (EQ) and Boston Scientific Corp (BSX) were today's most notable downgrades:

Goldman Sachs downgraded Embarq Corp (NYSE: EQ) to Sell from Neutral based on valuation and potential margin dilution.

Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE: BSX) was downgraded to Peer Perform from Outperform at Bear Stearns based on regulatory and competitive challenges.

OTHER DOWNGRADES:

Despite expectations of strong Q4 results and 2007 guidance, Needham downgraded Garmin Ltd (NASDAQ: GRMN) to Hold from Buy based on valuation, as they believe the multiple the market is willing to give the stock is likely to decline as PNDs continue to increase as a percentage of revenue.

Roth Capital downgraded China BAK Battery Inc (NASDAQ: CBAK) to Hold from Buy.

DA Davidson downgraded Weyerhaeuser Co (NYSE: WY) to Neutral from Buy.

BMO Capital Markets downgraded Brady Corp (NYSE: BRC) to Market Perform from Outperform.

Wachovia downgraded Boyd Gaming Corp (NYSE: BYD) to Market Perform from Outperform, expecting weakness in 2007 from the Las Vegas locals market and Atlantic City.
