Plus, just Friday morning, CHK scored an <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;source=news&amp;cd=2&amp;ved=0CDsQqQIwAQ&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.americanbankingnews.com%2F2011%2F02%2F25%2Fchesapeake-energy-chk-upgraded-by-canaccord-genuity-to-buy%2F&amp;ei=xs1nTZytG4H68Aa5nf3DCw&amp;usg=AFQjCNGHPknuheLLRJicnb7hXVLEMUKHDQ">upgrade to buy</a> at Canaccord Genuity. The shares have gained ground as a result, with the equity up more than 13% from last Friday's close. However, bearish bets were the options of choice on CHK this morning.<br />
<br />
Within the first hour of Friday's session, more than 5,000 puts were exchanged on CHK's January 2012 35-strike put. The majority of these puts traded near the ask price, indicating they were most likely purchased. With CHK hovering just shy of $35 at last look, these long-term options are right at the money.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/25/long-term-puts-are-popular-on-chesapeake-energy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Long-Term Puts are Popular on Chesapeake Energy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/25/long-term-puts-are-popular-on-chesapeake-energy/">Long-Term Puts are Popular on Chesapeake Energy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 25 Feb 2011 13:40:00 EST. The natural gas market is about to become an export market. The U.S. has abundant natural gas and now two companies plan to take advantage of the opportunity, as reported in the <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704279704576102350424208900.html?mod=WSJ_hps_sections_business"><em>Wall Street Journal</em></a> (subscription required).</p>
<p>First we have privately owned <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/private/lng-freeport-development-l-p/44-c101c2bc/">Freeport LNG Development</a>, working with Australian Macquarie Group (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/macquarie-group-ltd-s-adr/mqbky/nao">MQBKY</a>), expecting to receive export permits. The company has an import terminal and it plans to add the equipment that will allow it to export as well.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/us-to-export-natural-gas/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>U.S. Firms to Export Natural Gas</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/us-to-export-natural-gas/">U.S. Firms to Export Natural Gas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Feb 2011 11:30:00 EST. Tech stocks were up with the S&amp;P 500, but the DJIA was a mixed bag throughout the trading day. This appears to have been a 3-year high for NASDAQ and a 2-year high for the S&amp;P. As far as the holiday-shortened week is concerned, today may be a blueprint for trading here in the U.S. and abroad. <br />
<br />
Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:<br />
<br />
Dow Jones 11,478.13 -13.78 (-0.12%)  <br />
S&amp;P 500 1,247.08 +3.17 (0.25%) <br />
Nasdaq 2,649.56 +6.59 (0.25%)<br />

The brokerage house cited valuation as the reason for the upgrade, stating that the shares are "attractively priced at three times next year's expected discretionary cash flow compared to a median multiple of around five times at the group's larger peers," according to MarketWatch.</p>
<p>BMO also feels CHK's use of joint ventures to raise cash and finance capital expenditure could lead to higher cash flow yields and returns on capital, MarketWatch reported. Along with the upgrade, the ratings house assigned a price target of $30 per share for CHK.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/16/bmo-capital-upgrades-chesapeake-energy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMO Capital Upgrades Chesapeake Energy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/16/bmo-capital-upgrades-chesapeake-energy/">BMO Capital Upgrades Chesapeake Energy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 16 Aug 2010 10:30:00 EST. The biggest sign of this is Exxon's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/exxon-mobil-corporation/xom/nys">XOM</a>) recent <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/manda-corner-exxons-deal-for-xto-heralds-return-of-the-oil-wars/19283582/">deal</a> to pay $30 billion for XTO (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/xto-energy-inc/xto/nys">XTO</a>).</p>
<p>As a result, the expectation is that there will be many more deals in the sector. This week Total SA (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/total-s-a/tot/nys">TOT</a>), which is one of the largest oil companies in the world, <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601085&amp;sid=a_5jGgs4urvQ">agreed</a> to form a joint venture for natural gas with Chesapeake Energy (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/chesapeake-energy-corporation/chk/nys">CHK</a>). The deal may involve as much as $2.25 billion.</p>

<span style="font-style: italic;">TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says the biggest companies can lobby their way to huge profits. </span><br /><br /> Anyone serious about climate change knows that coal is the worst enemy of the environment. We can have all of the electric cars we want, if they are hooked into a coal-based utility system then the gains are irrelevant. We can also be sure that while all sorts of companies, like the General Electrics (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys">GE</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=GE">Cramer's Take</a>) and Cokes (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-coca-cola-company/ko/nys">KO</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=KO">Cramer's Take</a>) and Nikes (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nike-inc/nke/nys">NKE</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=NKE">Cramer's Take</a>) and Nestles, support climate control, they are not equal to one Southern Company (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/southern-company-the/so/nys">SO</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=SO">Cramer's Take</a>), which is an important coal-burning company and a huge lobbyist for the coal industry. <br /><br /> Our nation has a two-pronged climate philosophy: pushes on conservation and on renewables. Neither is enough to get us through the next 10 years; we can't produce enough renewable energy at a cheap price and we can't caulk our way out of the jam. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/07/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-obamas-pro-coal-stance-makes-copenhag/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cramer on BloggingStocks: Obama's pro-coal stance makes Copenhagen a charade </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/07/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-obamas-pro-coal-stance-makes-copenhag/">Cramer on BloggingStocks: Obama's pro-coal stance makes Copenhagen a charade </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 07 Dec 2009 10:00:00 EST. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania, who has become a believer in the fuel. </span><br /> <br />Maybe President Obama can make the transition to natural gas that Ed Rendell just did in Pennsylvania. The transition is a simple one: Focus on jobs and many things go well; don't focus on jobs and you aren't focused on anything. <br /><br /> When I first heard of the Marcellus Shale from Aubrey McClendon of <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/chesapeake-energy-corporation/chk/nys">Chesapeake </a>(NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/chesapeake-energy-corporation/chk/nys">CHK</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=F">Cramer's Take</a>), I was pretty much in disbelief. How could there be so much natural gas in some place in western Pennsylvania?
