Cramer on BloggingStocks: Catch the big move, or it'll get you

TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says takeover deals and major stock upgrades are going to be hard to fight.

Worldwide funded freight train coming at you. Hard to fight. Hard to stand in front of. That's what I think is happening here. It is clear that Ron Insana, in his fabulous Market Movers commentary this morning and with his quick moves to catch some of the move, totally agrees with me. It doesn't take much to see that Doug Kass is going full bore against me.

I feel like Michael Corleone in the lamented Godfather III. Every time I want to get out, they pull me back in again, and this time the pull is from the macro, where the central bankers keep plowing the money in, and from the micro, where one of the biggest deals in ages -- the Kraft (NYSE: KFT) (Cramer's Take) hostile on Cadbury -- reminds us that stocks aren't expensive, they are cheap.

Analyst upgrades, downgrades and initiations: RBS, COH, BJ, QCOM, SNDK, MAT, MGM ...

Analyst upgrades:
  • HSBC upgraded Royal Bank of Scotland (NYSE: RBS) to Overweight from Neutral as it believes the risk of immediate nationalization has been removed.
  • JP Morgan upgraded DTS Inc (NASDAQ: DTSI) to Overweight from Neutral to reflect accretion from the Neural acquisition and its expectation the company can generate strong cash flow during the downturn. The firm raised its target to $18.
  • Cowen upgraded Coach (NYSE: COH) to Outperform from Neutral citing the recent sell-off in shares.
  • BJ's Wholesale (NYSE: BJ) was upgraded to Buy from Neutral at UBS.
  • First Horizon (NYSE: FHN) was upgraded to Overweight from Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley.
  • Spartech (NYSE: SEH) was raised to Hold from Underweight at KeyBanc.

Analyst upgrades 5-11-07: AEO, ALU, AMAT and NVDA

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Applied Materials (AMAT), Southern Union (SUG), Alcatel-Lucent (ALU), Lamar (LAMR) and Trump Entertainment (TRMP) led the noteworthy upgrade list today:
  • UBS upgraded shares of Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) to Buy from Neutral as they expect the company to benefit from increased capital spending by Rexchip, the joint venture of Elpida and Powerchip. After speaking to contacts, UBS believes shipments to Rexchip will total around $640M in 2007.
  • Credit Suisse upgraded shares of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) to Outperform from Neutral on improved earnings visibility and the potential for incremental cost savings.
  • SMH Capital upgraded shares of Lamar Advertising (NASDAQ: LAMR) to Buy from Neutral after the conference call indicated the run rate for digital deployment is increasing, while capex per board is declining. The firm thinks the Street may be overlooking the potential for significant earnings acceleration into 2008.
  • Nollenberger upgraded shares of Trump Entertainment Resorts (NASDAQ: TRMP) to Neutral from Sell based on valuation and believes fair value is $14/share...
OTHER UPGRADES:
  • Raymond James raised Steak n Shake (NYSE: SNS) to Market Perform from Underperform.
