What is COBRA? COBRA is a federal program that allows you to continue your health insurance after you leave a company. If you choose this option, you must pay your share and the company's share of your health insurance. For singles it averages about $400.00 and for families it averages $1050.00

It looks like it will create jobs for the people working on the projects. But how long will those jobs last and will they continue after the projects are over? And if there's something wrong with his plan, what would be a better alternative? I think that if these projects are investments that create revenue generating operations, they are worth doing -- especially if those revenues ultimately recoup the investment.

Here are some of the specific plan elements that I view as investments:

Boost renewable energy supply. The plan seeks to double renewable energy generating capacity of over three years -- to power six million American homes. It would upgrade two million homes and 75% of all federal buildings to better protect against the heat and cold -- saving low-income homeowners $350 a year in utility costs and cutting government costs by $2 billion a year. It would also provide loan guarantees to boost the $100 billion in private sector investment in clean energy projects over three years.

Upgrade 3,000 miles of transmission lines for a national electric grid to make more efficient use of energy.

Build 1,300 waste-water projects which would provide an ongoing revenue source for cities and states and reduce the costs of cleaning up polluted water.

Or maybe you've decided you're an upscale type and are willing to wait even longer for the U.S. release of LG's Prada phone (currently sold in Europe for about $800 USD, and to be offered on the Verizon (NYSE: VZ) network), expected in "late summer" 2007. Didn't you realize there's a third option for the status-hungry, dripping-with-money types?

For only $300,000, or thereabouts, you could be dripping in mobile phone-ness with the Vertu "Signature Cobra," pictured here. Only eight of the phones -- encrusted with 439 rubies and wicked emerald cobra eyes -- will be produced, but you'll have to special-order. Vertu is known for its excessively fashionable technology; its phone service features a "concierge" button which connects you to personal assistance for travel, restaurants, and events.

While the concierge sure beats the Apple iPhone's ability to Google "Starbucks" and then call and order 4,000 lattes (haha Steve! you're such a funny one), I think I'd rather have yummy technology than eye-popping jewelry. And wouldn't it suck if you left your phone in a cab?
Can't wait for iPhone?
