Adjusted net income rose an incredible 77% to 46 cents per share, according to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/cbs-corporation-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2010-results/rfid415401628/?channel=pf">press release</a>. That number went beyond the estimate by two pennies as indicated by <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/CBSid1379534/CBS-CBS-reports-Q-EPS-c-vs-consensus-c">TheFly</a>. <br />
<p>
Considering how the stock has fared over the past twelve months, one would have expected a good earnings report. The 52-week low for the shares is $12.26 while the 52-week high is $22.25. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/cbs-corporation/cbs/nys/tech-chart">chart</a> communicates a company backed by some solid momentum.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/16/cbs-tops-estimate-in-q4-buy-the-stock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CBS Tops Estimate in Q4: Buy the Stock?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/16/cbs-tops-estimate-in-q4-buy-the-stock/">CBS Tops Estimate in Q4: Buy the Stock?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 16 Feb 2011 18:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/comcast-corporation/cmcsa/nas">CMCSA</a>), which I first wrote about on April 22, 2009, at a price of $14.05, have put in <a href="http://clearstation.etrade.com/cgi-bin/details?Symbol=cmcsa">a decent rally</a> this winter, rising to about $24. Now may be a good time to consider taking some profits if you're in near $14.</p>
<p>However, those investors who can tolerate the risk can maintain their full position with CMCSA and go for an even bigger gain, but keep in mind the journey to $30 probably will not be completed in 2011.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/15/comcast-continues-to-rise/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Comcast Continues to Rise</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/15/comcast-continues-to-rise/">Comcast Continues to Rise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. I was therefore rather surprised to see what I thought were relatively impressive numbers attached to the top films.</p>
<p>According to early estimates for domestic grosses at <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/">Box Office Mojo</a>, Sony's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>) <em>Just Go With It</em>, starring Adam Sandler, is so far credited with a first-place showing; the movie is believed to have made about $31 million for the Friday-through-Sunday period. But Viacom's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/viacom-inc-cl-b/via.b/nys">VIA.B</a>) <em>Justin Bieber: Never Say Never </em>product isn't giving up without a fight. <br />
Comcast, which I first wrote about <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/01/26/comcast-s-key-cable-system-subscribers/">on April 22, 2009</a> at a price of $14.05 will likely post a 2010 revenue increase of 5-7%, with a similar increase in 2011, propelled higher by increased multi-service customers, higher video services revenue, and a rebound in advertising revenue. Margins should improve slightly.<br />
<br />
Comcasts' most compelling metric? Subscribers: 22.9 million video, 16.7 million high speed internet, and 8.4 million digital phone. Comcast has also formalized its plan to buy a 51% joint-venture stake in NBC Universal (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys">GE</a>), which will contribute programming.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/23/comcast-s-slow-climb-continues/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Comcast's Slow Climb Continues</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/23/comcast-s-slow-climb-continues/">Comcast's Slow Climb Continues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 23 Nov 2010 15:30:00 EST. With that in mind, here's why you should buy Comcast Corporation (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/comcast-corporation/cmcsa/nas" class="inlinked">CMCSA</a>): people love to watch TV.</p>
<p>Comcast seems to be making all of the right moves to get as much content as possible in front of as many eyes as possible. Recognizing that more and more people are consuming media on devices other than their televisions, Comcast has ramped up its efforts to distribute its content online -- through its new Xfinity platform -- and on mobile devices, like the iPad.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/15/comcast-could-rise-to-xfinity/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Comcast Could Rise to Xfinity</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/15/comcast-could-rise-to-xfinity/">Comcast Could Rise to Xfinity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 18:30:00 EST. I saw a quote of $20.34 go by on my screen, a price that represents a gain of 3.6% from yesterday's close. Volume is strong. <br />
<br />
The one-year <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/comcast-corporation/cmcsa/nas/tech-chart">chart</a> shows some sideways action, but it also displays a stock that has been strong during the past twelve months. One does get the sincere impression that it wants to break out of its current levels sooner rather than later. It is difficult, however, to buy stocks that are at their highs of the year, especially with the way the economy and the markets have been acting.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/27/comcast-near-52-week-high-after-q3-release/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Comcast Near 52-Week High After Q3 Release</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/27/comcast-near-52-week-high-after-q3-release/">Comcast Near 52-Week High After Q3 Release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 15:00:00 EST. Will the company, after the transaction involving it, GE and Comcast (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/comcast-corporation/cmcsa/nas">CMCSA</a>) goes through (assuming it does), see an improvement in its future prospects? I sure hope so, but I have to say, if the new leaders simply engage the same old strategies as before, then I don't have a lot of confidence.</p>
<p>It's been reported that <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/media/jeff-zucker-nbc-out-comcast-merger/19647617/">Jeff Zucker will be leaving</a>. On the surface, one might, on an instinctual level, feel positive about the exit of the studio's CEO. As we all know, change can be good; reboots can oftentimes act as catalysts that transform an operation into a stronger entity.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/25/comcast-needs-to-make-nbc-universal-work/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Comcast Needs to Make NBC Universal Work</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/25/comcast-needs-to-make-nbc-universal-work/">Comcast Needs to Make NBC Universal Work</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 25 Sep 2010 09:40:00 EST. Following is my brief take on each of them.</p>
<p>Comcast is a big name in cable, and it's waiting to close on a deal with General Electric (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys">GE</a>) involving the latter company's NBC Universal. It will be interesting to see if Comcast's management team can properly synergize with the studio.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/29/comcast-visa-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Earnings Releases from Comcast and Visa</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/29/comcast-visa-earnings/">Earnings Releases from Comcast and Visa</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 10:30:00 EST. It appears that the cartoon concern possibly isn't so fond of being a standalone entity any longer. Instead, it might want to be purchased by another media player. Comcast (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/comcast-corporation/cmcsa/nas">CMCSA</a>) was mentioned as a potential suitor.</p>
<p>There's some confusion, however, over this topic; it's not clear whether Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks Animation, approached Comcast or Comcast approached Katzenberg.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/18/dreamworks-animation-buy-out/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DreamWorks Animation: Time for a Buy Out?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/18/dreamworks-animation-buy-out/">DreamWorks Animation: Time for a Buy Out?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 18 Jul 2010 13:40:00 EST. It was up over 1%. Sure, that sounds swell when juxtaposed with Tuesday's market action. It does nothing, however, to make me like the stock. <br />
<br />
The 52-week low for the shares is $6.41. The 52-week high is $18.93. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/tivo-inc/tivo/nas/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> is ... not appealing. You've got a big spike in buying interest near the right side, preceded by sideways action. Then, a nasty plunge. How can you possibly comprehend this technical situation? It's difficult at best, and I'm not going to pretend I know where the stock is heading.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/26/tivo-records-another-loss-in-q1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TiVo Records Another Loss in Q1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/26/tivo-records-another-loss-in-q1/">TiVo Records Another Loss in Q1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 26 May 2010 09:30:00 EST. First, it's under a buck. Second, it is currently down over 20% in afternoon trading, backed by significant volume. I'm seeing a price of just under 40 cents as I write this. Not a good situation.<br />
<br />
Yet, I'm sure there are a fair amount of professional speculators out there making bets on the business. Hey, I can't predict the future, but I just don't see how anyone can take a chance on the shares. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/blockbuster-inc-class-a/bbi/nys/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> is terrible. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/dish-network-corporation/dish/nas">DISH</a>), a provider of television entertainment channels whose competitors include Comcast Corporation (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/comcast-corporation/cmcsa/nas">CMCSA</a>) and DIRECTV (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/directv-cmn-stk/dtv/nas">DTV</a>), is trading higher about an hour before the closing bell. It's up 50 cents, or over 2%, to $21.80. Volume isn't that great, though. And I have to say, I'm not sure I'd want to join in with the buyers.<br />
<br />
Over the last <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/dish-network-corporation/dish/nas/tech-chart">twelve months</a>, the stock has seen a nice rise. Before you become too impressed, keep in mind that the 52-week range is a relatively narrow one.
