If you knew how much time you had left, you could buy the right annuities, cash out your 401K at the right moment, buy the right insurance, and, if you so chose, die broke. You could even start accepting every credit card offer that came your way.

Thus, I call to your attention to the website Deathforecast.com. By filling out its brief survey you can get a (sometimes sobering) estimate of your own life expectancy. The site uses common metrics such as family health history, along with factors that have shown some correlation but a fuzzy causal linkage, such as pet ownership, to estimate your DOD.

The process also provides an eye-opening affirmation of how factors within your control, such as weight and exercise, can impact your mortality. It showed me that I need to quit spending so much time at the keyboard, and more time on the bicycle, if I want to be around to bedevil your stock purchase plans for a long, long time to come.
How long will you live? originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 04 Jul 2007 20:02:00 EST.
