Especially at a time when the bulls are in charge. The company, whose colleagues include ConAgra Foods, Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/conagra-foods-inc/cag/nys">CAG</a>) and Kraft Foods Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/kraft-foods-inc/kft/nys">KFT</a>), was down 2.1% to $12.56 about thirty minutes before the close of the session.</p>
<p>First-quarter data was reported by the business this morning. The market obviously wasn't too pleased. According to an article over at <a href="http://www.thestreet.com/story/10851343/1/del-monte-lowers-outlook-shares-fall.html">TheStreet.com</a>, profit from continuing operations was 29 cents per share. This figure was two pennies above the estimate generated by the analysts. No matter what the traders are doing to the stock, at least shareholders can be happy about that aspect of the period.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/03/del-monte-doing-lousy-today/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Del Monte Falls Despite Market Rally</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/03/del-monte-doing-lousy-today/">Del Monte Falls Despite Market Rally</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 03 Sep 2010 18:30:00 EST. This report is a compilation of anecdotal information on current economic conditions from each of the 12 Federal Reserve Bank districts, and it is released eight times a year. The data comes from interviews with business contacts, economists, market experts, and other sources. The June report is expected to show strengthening signs of expansion, though results could be mixed across the 12 districts.</p>

Net sales went up by over 6%. Earnings per share more than doubled to 31 cents. Analysts were expecting only 21 cents of per-share profit, according to <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=dlm">Earnings.com</a>. </p>
<p>Management seems to be striking a proper balance between pricing strategies and the need for volume growth. That's a tough thing to do, and it can't always be done, but Del Monte is obviously utilizing its brand equity to full advantage. Smart marketing campaigns have helped to highlight the company's trademarks and communicate product value. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/04/del-monte-delivers-a-good-second-quarter/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Del Monte delivers a good second quarter </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/04/del-monte-delivers-a-good-second-quarter/">Del Monte delivers a good second quarter </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Dec 2009 09:00:00 EST. When a stock like Del Monte gains 9% on great volume, you know something big must have happened. Well, it was the company's fiscal <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/del-monte-foods-company-reports-record-fiscal-2010-first-quarter-results/rfid247800292?channel=pf">Q1 results</a> that made investors want to buy today. After checking over the news, I can honestly say that I see the market's point.</p>
<p>Sales increased 12% during the quarter, and earnings from continuing operations calculated out to 30 cents per share, a huge improvement over the loss observed in the comparable period. According to <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=dlm">Earnings.com</a>, Wall Street was only looking for a measly four pennies for the bottom line. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/09/03/del-monte-up-big-on-q1-data/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Del Monte up big on Q1 data </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/09/03/del-monte-up-big-on-q1-data/">Del Monte up big on Q1 data </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 15:00:00 EST. And the volume is doing gangbusters business. The market is responding to the company's <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/del-monte-foods-company-reports-fiscal-2009-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-results/rfid222002210?channel=pf">fourth-quarter results</a>. The numbers did tell an overall fun story.</p>
<p>To begin with, revenues saw a big jump of 20%. As many news <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124472248915406023.html">items</a> have pointed out, price increases helped out. It should also be pointed out that the company's press release indicated that an extra week skewed things a bit. That's okay, though, it was still a good top-line performance. Earnings per share from continuing divisions came in at $0.35, which meant that Del Monte grew the bottom line by 75% (a couple elements affecting the perception of this profit expansion was a better tax situation linked to a positive change in California tax code and a $0.04 per-share transformation expense recorded in Q4 2008). Analysts said the company might earn $0.26 per share. That's a pleasant difference, isn't it?</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/11/del-montes-q4-rocked-buy-or-sell-on-the-news/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Del Monte's Q4 rocked -- buy or sell on the news?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/11/del-montes-q4-rocked-buy-or-sell-on-the-news/">Del Monte's Q4 rocked -- buy or sell on the news?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 11 Jun 2009 14:50:00 EST. The Beige Book report in March suggested that, by most measures, the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/2009/03/04/u-s-economy-continues-to-deteriorate-latest-fed-beige-book-dec/">economy was continuing to deteriorate</a> and that prospects for near-term improvement was poor. But the April report showed that the <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/04/15/closing-bell-when-less-bad-starts-looking-great-axp-dndn-g/">deterioration was beginning to slow</a> in some regions. Also, the <a href="http://aol.ccbn.com/economiceventdetail.asp?event=2039872&amp;client=aol">TIPP Economic Optimism Index</a> is scheduled to be released Tuesday, and the University of Michigan <a href="http://aol.ccbn.com/economiceventdetail.asp?event=2038737&amp;client=aol">Consumer Sentiment Index</a> comes out Friday. So by the end of the week, we could have a good gauge of the mood over the U.S. economy.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/07/the-week-in-preview-the-beige-book-and-other-mood-gauges/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The week in preview: The Beige Book and other mood gauges</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/07/the-week-in-preview-the-beige-book-and-other-mood-gauges/">The week in preview: The Beige Book and other mood gauges</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 07 Jun 2009 12:30:00 EST. But it may be the only one that does, as at least two of the Canadian banks scheduled to report fourth-quarter numbers this week have already released preliminary results that warn of lower earnings due to debt write-downs and trading losses.</p>
<p>Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect Toronto-based <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/canadian-imperial-bank-of-commerce/cm/nys">Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/canadian-imperial-bank-of-commerce/cm/nys">CM</a>) to post earnings 42.6% lower than a year ago, or $1.28 per share. CIBC beat estimates by a penny in the third quarter, but missed by a penny in the period before that. The bank faces <a href="http://money.aol.com/news/articles/qp/pr/_a/brower-piven-encourages-investors-who/rfid144942732">a class-action lawsuit</a> related to investments in collateralized debt obligations consisting of U.S. subprime mortgages. Shares have climbed 20.7% from a recent 52-week low of $39.52, but are down 37.8% in the past three months. </p>
<p><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-toronto-dominion-bank/td/nys">Toronto Dominion Bank</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-toronto-dominion-bank/td/nys">TD</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-of-nova-scotia-halifax/bns/nys">Bank of Nova Scotia</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-of-nova-scotia-halifax/bns/nys">BNS</a>), and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-bk-cda-montreal-que/ry/nys">Royal Bank of Canada</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-bk-cda-montreal-que/ry/nys">RY</a>) are expected to report more modest earnings declines of $1.01 per share, $0.73 per share, and $0.83 per share, respectively. All three Toronto-based banks topped estimates in the third quarter. Toronto Dominion and RBC have recently announced plans to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsnews/idCAN2452730420081124?rpc=33">offer shares in order to raise capital</a>. Toronto Dominion and Scotiabank have been trading near 52-week lows, and their share prices are down around 39% in the past three months. But only Toronto Dominion has a consensus buy recommendation from analysts.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/11/30/the-week-in-preview-canadian-banks-homebuilders-sears-and-foo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The week in preview: Canadian banks, homebuilders, Sears and food producers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/11/30/the-week-in-preview-canadian-banks-homebuilders-sears-and-foo/">The week in preview: Canadian banks, homebuilders, Sears and food producers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 30 Nov 2008 12:30:00 EST. By and large, expectations for tech companies reporting results this week remain high, though. Here's what analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial are anticipating in the way of earnings, as compared to the same period of the previous year. </p>

I suggest Nike spend whatever it takes to immediately sign up a new spokesperson, Ceasar Milan (<a href="http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/dogwhisperer/"><em>The Dog Whisperer</em></a>).<br /><br />According to <a href="http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&amp;taxonomyName=personal_technology&amp;articleId=9032180&amp;taxonomyId=165">Gamepro</a>, a Japanese arm-wrestling machine used in arcades has been recalled after the <strong>machines broke the arms of three human contestants</strong>. The maker, Atlus (heh!), claims the machines are so weak that "even women should be able to beat it" (their words, not mine). The game, Air Spirit, allows the player to select his/her opponent from 10 levels, from French maid to professional wrestler.<br /><br />The <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/del-monte-foods-company/dlm/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">Meow Mix</a> (Del Monte, NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/del-monte-foods-company/dlm/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">DLM</a>) <a href="http://adage.com/eventswatch07/article?article_id=119995">Acatemy</a> in New York is now open. The school helps feline fans connect with their furry friends by teaching their owners how to play, how to cook for their cat, and how to understand the world from its point of view. The school will tour the U.S. over the next few months. Meow Mix also opened the first Caf&eacute; for humans and their cats in NYC in 2005.<br /><br />According to our sister blog <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/20/church-gives-away-itunes-for-attendance/">Engadget</a>, the Church by the Glades in Florida has decided that a ticket to heaven is not sufficient reward to draw people to church, so it is sweetening the deal by offering, for a limited time only, some free iTunes (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">Apple</a>, NASDAQ:<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">AAPL</a>) downloads. </p>
