Sunoco pulled in 54 cents per diluted share ($65 million) in the most recent quarter, better than the loss of 29 cents per share from a year ago. On an adjusted basis, Sunoco earned 22 cents per share. The stronger results were attributed to an improvement in earnings from the steel-making coal and logistics businesses.

Continue reading Sunoco Turns a Quarterly Profit, Misses Expectations

Sunoco Turns a Quarterly Profit, Misses Expectations originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 29 Oct 2010 12:00:00 EST.
The editor of BullMarket.com report, "Apple reported a fiscal Q4 profit of $4.31 billion, or $4.64 a share, up 70% from $2.53 billion, or $2.77 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue soared 67% to $20.3 billion. The results easily surpassed the analyst consensus of $4.08 in EPS on sales of $18.9 billion.

"One area of contention with investors was gross margins, which fell to 36.9% from 41.8% a year ago. Analysts were looking for gross margins of 38.1%. The company announced that stronger sales in cereal as well as organic and natural product pushed its first-quarter earnings 12% higher.

For the most recent quarter, GIS raked in 70 cents per share -- better than last year's earnings of 62 cents per share. GIS's adjusted earnings came in at 64 cents per share, topping the consensus estimate by a penny. As for revenue, the $3.53 billion for the quarter was better than a year ago but just shy of the consensus estimate of $3.57 billion.
Continue reading General Mills Profit Rises as Cereal, Organic Products Sales Grow

General Mills Profit Rises as Cereal, Organic Products Sales Grow originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 10:30:00 EST. (GOOG) will be reporting its second-quarter earnings after the market close on Thursday. Analysts are expecting to see Google report earnings of $6.59 per share. For the same period last year the company had earnings of $5.36.
If the recent past is any indication, we could see another estimate-topping quarter for the company. However, is this enough to validate an investment in the franchise?

After lowering its outlook for the fiscal year, from between $0.55 - $0.60 to $0.50 - $0.55 per share, Sonic announced on June 21, 2010 that its earnings for the third quarter were a disappointing $0.18 per share. This figure is lower than what analysts predicted by 1 to 4 cents per share, and even includes a 3 cent tax benefit. Without including special items, this marks a year over year decline of almost 40%.
Continue reading Sonic: A Restaurant with Risks

Sonic: A Restaurant with Risks originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 25 Jun 2010 18:00:00 EST. Thursday, SQNM confessed to a loss of 27 cents per share, right in line with analysts' expectations. Revenue arrived at $10.6 million, outpacing consensus forecasts for $10.2 million. So, why did the stock slip more than 12% lower in morning trading?

Traders are likely eyeing two unsavory data points in Sequenom's report. Gross margin dropped year-over-year from 60.6% to 50.5%, while research and development (R&D) expenses jumped from $8.8 million to $11.2 million on an annual basis. Additionally, Sequenom predicted that it won't be ready to file for a premarket approval on its noninvasive T21 test until the end of 2012.

Continue reading Sequenom Set to Breach Support After Earnings

Sequenom Set to Breach Support After Earnings originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 07 May 2010 12:30:00 EST. Let's take a look at how the apparel retailer (which includes store brands Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Catherines, and Petit Sophisticate Outlet) performed in the last quarter. Sales for the most recent quarter dropped 4% at stores open at least a year. Yes, the company's year-over-year loss wasn't quite as bad, when taking one-time items out of the equation (a 10-cent loss versus expectations for a 13-cent loss) -- but it was the drop in sales that have the shares more than 14% lower this afternoon.
Continue reading A Recap of Charming Shoppes' Fourth-Quarter Earnings

A Recap of Charming Shoppes' Fourth-Quarter Earnings originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 30 Mar 2010 15:20:00 EST.
