On the former show, contestants long to hear their mentor, "Miss Tyra," tell them they are "still in the running to become America's Next Top Model." Runway contestants are informed that "You're either in ... or you're out" and cringe if they hear German-born Heidi eulogize: "I'm sorry, you're out ... auf wiedersehen."

The 33-year-old Banks -- featured on Time magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people in 2006 and 2007 -- certainly keeps busy, hosting her own syndicated daytime eponymous talk show in addition to her efforts on Model, an addictive primetime competitive reality show that airs on The CW network -- a collaboration between CBS Corp. (NYSE: CBS) and Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) Warner Brothers Entertainment Unit.

Continue reading Money Face-Off: Tyra Banks vs. Heidi Klum

Money Face-Off: Tyra Banks vs. Heidi Klum originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Sun, 16 Sep 2007 09:10:00 EST. From his exhausting gig as the face of American Idol every spring to collaborations with the E! cable channel, a weekly hosting turn of the American Top 40 countdown program, and a morning radio show in the Los Angeles market, the diminutive media linchpin is carving out his claims to be the country's next Dick Clark.

News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) FOX Network, which airs American Idol, announced that Seacrest will serve as host for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards, to be aired live on Sunday, September 16. In a press release from the network, FOX's president of alternative entertainment, Mike Darnell, asserted that "Ryan Seacrest is known and loved by television audiences around the world ... he's a consummate host of major live broadcast events and a proven talent who always makes it look easy..."

Ken Ehlrich, executive producer of the Emmy broadcast this year, promises that Seacrest will help infuse this year's Emmys with a "freshness, enthusiasm and professionalism [into] some of the innovative things we have planned."
Personally, I'll be even more likely to tune into the awards show with Seacrest hosting. He's quick on his feet, sharp, and funny in a manner often stifled by his Idol gig (or so I allow myself to believe). And like it or not, Seacrest is also an indelible part of today's TV fabric.

Beth Gaston Moon is an analyst at Schaeffer's Investment Research.
Seacrest, In ... to host the Emmys originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 21 Aug 2007 11:30:00 EST. HBO, with some 95 nominations, certainly stood out. Its ability to create shows without network censor oversight is no doubt a source of continuing frustration to networks like NBC which cannot get away with being as edgy. The FCC and networks are still, however, battling that one out in the courts.

GE after the bell 07/06/06: NBC snagging some Emmy attention, but not as much as the other networks originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 06 Jul 2006 16:35:00 EST.
