<br />
On Sunday, the Environmental Protection Agency stated that it can not find the source of a leak along a pipeline operated by Enbridge Energy Partners (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/enbridge-energy-partners-l-p/eep/nys">EEP</a>). The pipeline runs from Canada to the upper Midwest, pumping 760,000 barrels per day. With this pipeline disrupted indefinitely (EEP has not given an estimate for a restart date), we could see black gold enjoying a bit of a rally. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/13/pipeline-closure-boosts-crude-futures/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pipeline Closure Boosts Crude Futures</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/13/pipeline-closure-boosts-crude-futures/">Pipeline Closure Boosts Crude Futures</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 13 Sep 2010 10:30:00 EST. <p>We know that they are placing their bets because Mariner's short interest is jumping through the roof.</p>
<p>Short interest is the current number of shares of a stock that have been sold short without being covered. And since traders typically only sell a stock short if they believe it is going to lose value, we know traders are growing increasingly bearish on Mariner.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/07/short-selling-mariner-energy-enbridge-shaw/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bears Pile on Mariner Energy, Enbridge, Shaw</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/07/short-selling-mariner-energy-enbridge-shaw/">Bears Pile on Mariner Energy, Enbridge, Shaw</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 07 Jun 2010 13:00:00 EST. In what some took as a good sign for big oil, the Houston-based company reported that <a href="http://money.aol.com/news/articles/qp/pr/_a/conocophillips-reports-third-quarter-net/rfid151211823">third quarter net income surged</a> 41% year over year to $3.39 per share, and that revenue also surged 52% to $70 billion. We'll see whether the good news extends to other petroleum giants scheduled to report quarterly results this week. </p>
<p>Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial are looking for <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bp-p-l-c/bp/nys">BP</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bp-p-l-c/bp/nys">BP</a>) profits to have grown 43.2% in the most recent quarter to $2.34 per share on revenue of $109.7 billion, and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/chevron-corporation/cvx/nys">Chevron Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/chevron-corporation/cvx/nys">CVX</a>) to post earnings up 39.4% to $3.25 per share on revenue of $86.8 billion. <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/marathon-oil-corporation/mro/nys">Marathon Oil Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/marathon-oil-corporation/mro/nys">MRO</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/exxon-mobil-corporation/xom/nys">ExxonMobil Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/exxon-mobil-corporation/xom/nys">XOM</a>), and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-dutch-shell-plc-cl-a/rds.a/nys">Royal Dutch Shell</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-dutch-shell-plc-cl-a/rds.a/nys">RDS.A</a>) likewise are expected to report higher net income of $2.33 per share (sales of $23.4 billion), $2.40 per share (sales of $131.4 billion), and $2.65 per share, respectively. Even <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">Valero Energy Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">VLO</a>) is expected to post earnings slightly higher to $1.46 per share (sales of $36.4 billion), despite the effects of Hurricane Ike. Among these companies, only BP and Valero beat earnings expectations in the previous quarter. Not surprisingly, analysts on average recommend buying all except Valero, and shares of all of these companies have recently hit 52-week lows.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/10/26/the-week-in-preview-focus-on-oil-and-energy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The week in preview: Focus on oil and energy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/10/26/the-week-in-preview-focus-on-oil-and-energy/">The week in preview: Focus on oil and energy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 26 Oct 2008 12:30:00 EST. To answer this question, I surveyed 20 of the nation's leading financial newsletter advisors to find their current favorite ideas in the energy sector. </p>
<p>Interestingly, the advisors see the best opportunities in areas well beyond traditional oil firms; indeed, no one included in this report chose a major integrated oil company. Rather, the advisors have shown a preference for various oil services sectors, non-oil energy sources, and developing alternative technologies. </p>
<p>Some focus on areas such as deep-sea operations with <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diamond-offshore-drilling-inc/do/nys">Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diamond-offshore-drilling-inc/do/nys">DO</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/transocean-inc/rig/nys">Transocean Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/transocean-inc/rig/nys">RIG</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/oceaneering-international-inc/oii/nys">Oceaneering International</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/oceaneering-international-inc/oii/nys">OII</a>), while others look toward oil shippers such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nordic-american-tanker-shipping-ltd/nat/nys">Nordic American Tanker Shipping</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nordic-american-tanker-shipping-ltd/nat/nys">NAT</a>) and refiners such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">Valero Energy Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">VLO</a>). </p>
<p>Others chose companies that make specific products needed by the oil &amp; gas industries such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/natco-group-inc/ntg/nys">NATCO Group Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/natco-group-inc/ntg/nys">NTG</a>), which makes a wide range of oil &amp; gas processing systems; <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/dresser-rand-group-inc/drc/nys">Dresser-Rand Group Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/dresser-rand-group-inc/drc/nys">DRC</a>), a maker of control systems; <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/gardner-denver-inc/gdi/nys">Gardner Denver Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/gardner-denver-inc/gdi/nys">GDI</a>), which makes compressor and fluid transfer systems; <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/tenaris-s-a-ads/ts/nys">Tenaris</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/tenaris-s-a-ads/ts/nys">TS</a>), a maker of pipes and tublar products and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/schlumberger-limited/slb/nys">Schlumberger Ltd.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/schlumberger-limited/slb/nys">SLB</a>), the largest and most diversified of the oil services companies.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/19/best-energy-ideas-favorites-from-the-newsletter-advisors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best energy ideas: Favorites from the newsletter advisors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/19/best-energy-ideas-favorites-from-the-newsletter-advisors/">Best energy ideas: Favorites from the newsletter advisors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 13:10:00 EST.
