Analyst calls: RTN, NVDA, ORCL, AXP, MOT, PM, CSCO, QCOM, DRI ...

Analyst upgrades:
  • Citigroup upgraded Sunoco Logistics (NYSE: SXL) to Buy from Hold on valuation and raised its target on shares to $60 from $56.50. The firm sees better value in Sunoco Logistics than Enbridge Energy Partners (NYSE: EEP), which it downgraded to Hold.
  • BofA/Merrill believes Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) offers the most potential upside in the larget cap defense sector. The firm upgraded shares to Buy from Neutral and has a $62 target on the stock.
  • Roth Capital upgraded Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) to Buy from Hold based on seasonality, multiple product cycles, and valuation. Roth's target remains $15.
  • Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) was upgraded to Buy from Hold at Societe Generale.
  • EnerNOC (NASDAQ: ENOC) was upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at RW Baird.
  • American Express (NYSE: AXP) was upgraded to Neutral from Underweight at JP Morgan.

Options Update: REIT volatility elevated on economic pressures; AMB, ESS, AVB

AMB Property (NYSE: AMB), a global developer and owner of industrial real estate, closed at $13.25 Wednesday. Goldman Sachs says: "We remain cautious on REITS." AMB December option implied volatility of 107 is above its 8-week average of 66 according to Track Data, suggesting larger price movement.

Essex Property Trust (NYSE: ESS), a REIT with the majority of real estate consisting of apartment communities, closed at $74.33 Wednesday. ESS December option implied volatility of 81 is above its 26-week average of 51 according to Track Data, suggesting larger price movement.

AvalonBay (NYSE: AVB), an owner or indirect owner of 178 apartment communities containing 50,370 apartment homes, closed at $55.03 Wednesday. AVB December option implied volatility of 83 is above its 26-week average of 54 according to Track Data, suggesting larger price movement.

Analyst initiations 6-25-07: CAP, CLR, ESS and LOGI

MOST NOTEWORTHY: CAI International (CAP), ATS Corp (ATCT), Logitech International (LOGI) and Wireless Ronin (RNIN) were today's more noteworthy initiations:
  • Piper Jaffray started CAI International (NYSE: CAP) with an Outperform rating and $18 target, believing the company is well positioned to capitalize on global trade growth. Jefferies started CAI Int'l with a Buy rating and $17 target.
  • CRT Capital believes ATS Corp's (NASDAQ: ATCT) risks are offset by positive long-term fundamentals of the federal IT services sector and the company's experienced management team and started shares with a Buy rating and $5 target.
  • ThinkEquity believes that Wireless Ronin Technologies (NASDAQ: RNIN) is exposed to one of the biggest open-ended growth opportunities in digital media today with its RoninCast application and started shares with a Buy rating...
OTHER INITIATIONS:
  • Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan started Continental Resources (NYSE: CLR) with an Overweight rating, while Merrill Lynch started Continental Resources with a Buy rating.
