One is a favorite of chocolate lovers while the other is all fun and games.</p>
<p>We'll start with the sweeter of the two, Hershey (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hershey-company-the/hsy/nys">HSY</a>), which posted its release on Wednesday. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/hersheys-4q-profit-rises-7-pct-on-strong/442491/">Associated Press</a> indicates that fourth-quarter adjusted income of 61 cents per share only equaled what the analysts were looking for. If you're a shareholder, you probably were disappointed. After all, you always want a beat. If the bottom line didn't go beyond the forecast, there's always the top line, right?</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/two-quarterly-reports-hershey-and-mattel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Two Quarterly Reports: Hershey and Mattel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/04/two-quarterly-reports-hershey-and-mattel/">Two Quarterly Reports: Hershey and Mattel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Feb 2011 11:00:00 EST. The company behind the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and the Kit Kat candies isn't expected to grow its bottom-line performance, but should shareholders panic?<br />
<br />
Probably not. Whether or not Hershey goes beyond the consensus estimate is, to some degree, not something for long-term investors to worry about. Last year at this time, net income came in at <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/02/hershey-improves-q4-profit-and-quarterly-payout/">63 cents</a> per share. According to <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=hsy">Earnings.com</a>, this year's quarterly profit may drop by two pennies to 61 cents per share.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/31/hershey-set-to-report-q4-numbers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hershey Set to Report Q4 Numbers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/31/hershey-set-to-report-q4-numbers/">Hershey Set to Report Q4 Numbers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 31 Jan 2011 15:30:00 EST. According to our <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/13/analyst-upgrades-downgrades/">Analyst Calls</a> piece, Wells Fargo believes the stock won't just be a market performer; instead, it has been granted an outperform rating. <br />
<br />
At the time of this writing, shares were higher by 2.1% to $49.82. That's not too far away from the 52-week high of $52.10, and it is well above the 52-week low of $35.95. Here's the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/hershey-company-the/hsy/nys/tech-chart">one-year chart</a>. As can be seen, the action has been sideways for a while. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/13/hershey-trading-higher-after-upgrade/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hershey Trading Higher After Upgrade</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/13/hershey-trading-higher-after-upgrade/">Hershey Trading Higher After Upgrade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 13 Jan 2011 15:30:00 EST. At the time of this writing, the stock was off by 2.8%, coming in at a quote of $49.67. The market wasn't taken by the third-quarter report. Is Wall Street being fair with the shares?</p>
<p>Well, you know how the analyst game works. A forecast is made, and the trick is to beat it. Unfortunately, the company behind the Reese's peanut butter candies and the famous Hershey chocolate bar (of course) merely met expectations. When you do that, you're simply not guaranteed to get a big bid after the earnings release.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/21/hershey-sells-off-after-announcing-q3-results/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hershey Sells Off After Announcing Q3 Results</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/21/hershey-sells-off-after-announcing-q3-results/">Hershey Sells Off After Announcing Q3 Results</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 21 Oct 2010 14:30:00 EST. After over 100 years in the same location, Hershey Co. is electing to close its original chocolate factory, which was built beginning in 1903. The company cites the need to upgrade equipment as the main impetus for the change. The company needs to remain current to effectively compete on the global playing field. <a href="http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130079220">Hershey is spending $300 million building a new facility near the original factory's location.</a><br />

Both, however, pay dividends, although one is set at a much higher yield than the other.</p>
<p>We'll go with the confectioner first. Hershey (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hershey-company-the/hsy/nys">HSY</a>) issued second-quarter results that I thought were appealing. According to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/hershey-announces-second-quarter-results/rfid350579290/?channel=pf">press release</a>, sales increased more than 5%, and on an adjusted basis, net income jumped 19% to 51 cents per share. Analysts believed the business was capable of delivering only <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=hsy">46 cents</a> per share. This is a nice follow-up to the <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/23/hershey-delivers-in-the-first-quarter/">first-quarter release</a>.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/24/hershey-verizon-q2-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Two Quarterly Reports: Hershey and Verizon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/24/hershey-verizon-q2-earnings/">Two Quarterly Reports: Hershey and Verizon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 24 Jul 2010 12:10:00 EST. By the end of the session, the stock had climbed over 7% to close at $48.08. A new high was reached at one point: $48.23. As can be seen, the market is solidly behind the famous confectioner and its <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/hershey-announces-first-quarter-results-and-increases-full-year-net-sales-and-eps-outlook/rfid321829766/?channel=pf">quarterly report</a>.</p>
<p>The top line increased just under 14%. The bottom line, on a <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Generally%20Accepted%20Accounting%20Principles%20-%20GAAP">GAAP</a> basis, came in at 64 cents per share, nearly 100% better than the 33 cents per share earned in the year-ago period. On an adjusted basis, net income growth was 68% because of some charges added back to that 33-cent profit stat. This was, nevertheless, a great performance: The analysts were only expecting somewhere around <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=hsy">47 cents per share</a>.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/23/hershey-delivers-in-the-first-quarter/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hershey Delivers a Sweet First Quarter</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/23/hershey-delivers-in-the-first-quarter/">Hershey Delivers a Sweet First Quarter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 10:30:00 EST. Here are 10 stocks to break up with this Valentine's Day.</p>
<ul>
    <li><strong>1-800-Flowers </strong>(<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/1-800-flowers-com-inc/flws/nas">FLWS</a>): A good gift, but a poorly run company that has posted a loss for three of the past four quarters.</li>
    <li><strong>Hershey </strong>(<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hershey-company-the/hsy/nys">HSY</a>): Missing out on the Cadbury merger was not so sweet for Hershey.</li>
    <li><strong>Cardiac Sciences</strong> (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/cardiac-science-corporation/cscx/nas">CSCX</a>): It's hard to have a heart for a company that fails seven out of my eight fundamental screens.</li>

Kraft had to increase its offer, injecting more cash into the bid to win over the 186-year-old Cadbury, which has finally surrendered its independence and accepted the sweetened offer.<br /><br />Kraft's offer is 840 pence per Cadbury share, with shareholders also getting a 10 pence special dividend, bringing the offer to a total of 850 pence per share. The new bid has won unanimous recommendation from the Cadbury board. Cadbury shares hit a record high of 838 pence in early trade in London and jumped over 5% to $54.63 in premarket trading.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/01/19/sweet-surrender-cadbury-accepts-new-kraft-offer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sweet Surrender: Cadbury Accepts New Kraft Offer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/01/19/sweet-surrender-cadbury-accepts-new-kraft-offer/">Sweet Surrender: Cadbury Accepts New Kraft Offer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 19 Jan 2010 09:00:00 EST.
