Once through that bottleneck, however, the study found that trunk capacity and switching technology will stand up to the growth in traffic.<br /><br />Nemertes concludes that $42-$55 billion of investment would be needed to build out enough to handle the increased traffic, 50-70% more than is currently planned.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/11/21/study-warns-internet-capacity-may-soon-be-reached/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Study warns internet capacity may soon be reached</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/11/21/study-warns-internet-capacity-may-soon-be-reached/">Study warns internet capacity may soon be reached</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 16:00:00 EST. As video on demand, online gaming and high definition television eat up more and more capacity, customers may find themselves on the <a href="http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070814-report-cable-companies-facing-big-bandwidth-crunch.html">slow end of a battle with their neighbors for packet priority</a>. An analogy might be the line that would form at the only well in a neighborhood where everyone is putting in pools. <br /><br />Others question whether the tubes of the internet's backbone are large enough to serve the dramatically increasing call on them. Total capacity usage is roughly doubling every two years. <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/verizon-communications-inc/vz/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">Cisco Systems</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/verizon-communications-inc/vz/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">CSCO</a>) estimates it will reach almost 8 million terabytes per month by 2011.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/08/16/internet-access-are-we-approaching-gridlock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Internet access -- are we approaching gridlock?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/08/16/internet-access-are-we-approaching-gridlock/">Internet access -- are we approaching gridlock?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2007 15:08:00 EST.
