His empire spans 18 countries and has 200 million subscribers.

Let's look at America Movil's spectacular growth. The company's markets are primarily in Latin America. American Movil controls 74% of wireless service in Mexico under its Telcel brand, which has 60 million subscribers. Brazil is second with 45 million subscribers. It also is the largest provider in the Caribbean with four million users.
Continue reading America Movil to Expand Growth with Pre-Paid Data Plans

America Movil to Expand Growth with Pre-Paid Data Plans originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 17:00:00 EST. Just the term dot-com captured the imagination of investors. Prices of some dot-com IPOs doubled in a matter of hours.

With the current financial crisis, the market for IPOs has slowed down to a trickle. But we still have investing ideas that capture our imagination. Just mention the word term 'cloud' these days, and you are off and running.

Such is the case with cloud computing ServiceSource (SREV), reported in Investors.com The issue was for 1.9 million shares, to be priced at $10 per share.
Continue reading Why Did ServiceSource's IPO Jump 22%?

Why Did ServiceSource's IPO Jump 22%? originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 01 Apr 2011 15:50:00 EST.
When Google (GOOG) announced its desire to find a place to test the development of a 1 gigabit fiber to the home network last February, cities and towns all across the nation started working on their presentations to get Google to come to their area. Google received 1,100 applications, but in the end, it is Kansas City that got the nod.

Continue reading Kansas City Wins Google Over

Kansas City Wins Google Over originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 31 Mar 2011 11:00:00 EST. (AKAM) received an upgrade at Merriman. According to our Analyst Calls roundup, the rating went from neutral to buy. Is it time to take a chance on this business?

Not much is going on with the stock while I'm writing this. With about ninety minutes to go before the end of the session, I'm seeing a quote of $36.59, a price that represents a gain of 0.6%. In addition, volume isn't impressive. The stock did, however, hit an intraday high of $37.16 earlier in the day.
Continue reading Akamai Receives Upgrade -- Will You Buy the Stock?

Akamai Receives Upgrade -- Will You Buy the Stock? originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 18:00:00 EST. Let's take the explosion of mobile data. Smartphones and iPhones are creating a huge traffic jam in wireless communication. At present we are using fixed cell towers to transmit data from towers to the Internet.

The need to handle the mobile explosion is putting extreme pressure on present tower operators to upgrade their equipment or build new towers. This is a cumbersome, time consuming process.
Continue reading Alcatel-Lucent Launches Tiny New Cell Phone Antenna System

Alcatel-Lucent Launches Tiny New Cell Phone Antenna System originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 15:30:00 EST.
The company is on the move again -- and Google's Android is leading the way. Google sees the next leg of the Internet revolution in the smart phone, tablet and e-reader market -- and there's already a fierce battle raging. Google's Android is making inroads into the iPhone turf. How deep is the penetration? Singapore research firm Canalys said, "Google shipped twice as many devices as Apple's iPhone. in the fourth quarter," capturing 33% of shipments, up from 8.7% a year ago.
(INTC). In fact, they seem bewildered by the move. Why in the world would a maker of chip sets want to own a data security software provider? Let me tell you why.

The days when we subscribed to a third-party service to download those clunky security patches will soon be gone -- and not missed. Those annoying downloads and incessant updates will go the way of the dinosaurs. Intel is preparing for the next generation of data security. Soon your data security will be provided as an integral part of your data handling and communication devices. It will finally be manufactured right into your chip sets.
This move comes as a bit of a surprise, as some analysts and investors believe the acquisition shows the importance that computing firms are applying to security. Intel noted that more "elements of our lives have moved online," meaning that security will become a "third pillar of what people demand from all computing experiences." Intel said that the deal "elevates focus on security on par with energy-efficient performance and connectivity." Bottom line: Intel wants to protect customers who are taking advantage of our new online lifestyle.

Continue reading Intel to Purchase McAfee

Intel to Purchase McAfee originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 19 Aug 2010 12:30:00 EST. But perhaps more seriously are the different articles in the media about how the Web is changing and how that's going to affect the search engine giant.

The Web Is Dead. Long Live the Internet is the provocative title of a Wired article published Tuesday.
As we noted in our earnings preview, Google has done very well over the past couple of years, and the company has outpaced analyst estimates each of the past seven quarters.
Continue reading Google Sells Off After Missing Earnings Estimate

Google Sells Off After Missing Earnings Estimate originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 16 Jul 2010 09:30:00 EST.
Three months ago, China started a rather nasty public fight with Google (GOOG) concerning censorship. Google ultimately decided to shut down its search engine on the Mainland. The disagreement between GOOG and the Chinese government started when the Internet search portal accused Chinese hackers of trying to steal its software and hijack Gmail accounts of human rights activists. Google decided that it would then stop self-censoring its search results and moved its service to Hong Kong in March.
Continue reading China Will Continue to Censor Internet

China Will Continue to Censor Internet originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 09:40:00 EST. VZ believes that the FCC's power is ineffective and gave Congress some recommendations that could shift the balance of power away from the FCC. VZ's top lobbyist, Tom Tauke, asked Congress to reconsider the way the FCC oversees broadband Internet. VZ would like the FCC to become more of an enforcer, much like the Federal Trade Commission.

The FCC is trying to reclassify broadband Internet access as a "common carrier service." Such classification would allow the government agency to regulate Internet service providers the same way it regulates phone companies. According to The Washington Post, the FCC's chairman said that the agency will continue to argue its point but may consider reclassification if a federal appeals court finds that the FCC doesn't have jurisdiction over broadband.
Continue reading Communication Firms Take On the FCC

Communication Firms Take On the FCC originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 25 Mar 2010 12:00:00 EST.
