Apple (AAPL) is going to have a big day Wednesday, which could include announcing a new Apple TV with Netflix (NFLX) support, and the fourth generation of the iPod Touch.

According to a report on Bloomberg, Apple will be announcing the new Apple TV with streaming Netflix videos today at its music-themed press conference.

Earlier this week,, I posted a bullish post on Apple (AAPL), in which analyst Geoff Seiler called the stock a huge bargain for the longer-term investor (see Apple: Another blowout quarter).

Following yesterday's announcment for the iPad, Andy Obermueller in his Government-Driven Investing, asks, "Is the new iPad a reason to buy the stock?" Here's his well-thought-out analysis."

Cutting through the hype and the niftiness of the device -investors need to ask themselves will people buy the device and will it have a significant effect on Apple's revenue?

Could Mobile Payment Become a Common, Easy Reality?

Jack Dorsey is accustomed to dealing in small. In 2006, he co-founded social media sensation Twitter, which traffics in content bites that are no more than 140 characters in length. He left his position as CEO a year ago (and remains chairman) and is now focusing on his newest endeavor: mobile payments. He came up with the idea for his new company, Square, a year ago and hopes it will revolutionize how money is exchanged.

The first product that Square is bringing to market lives up to its name: it's a small cube-shaped credit card terminal that can plug into an iPhone's headset jack. The problem that the device is intended to solve is the swift and easy transaction of credit card payments for anyone. It was inspired by the plight of Dorsey's friend, Jim McKelvey, a glass artist who lost a $2,000 sale because he couldn't accept credit card payments.

Apple Spikes on Rumors of Tablet

Apple (AAPL) got an early Christmas present, as its shares hit an all-time high on Thursday. The excitement over its much-anticipated tablet computer is growing, and word is a major launch event is planned for the device in January (keep an eye on San Francisco). Apple still hasn't admitted to the project, but that didn't manage to dampen speculation.

Yair Reiner of Oppenheimer said in a note to investors this month that Apple could have a tablet out on the streets by the beginning of April. Brian Marshall, an analyst at Broadpoint AmTech, sees the product reaching shelves by the end of the first quarter. Marshall sees the stock continuing to push upward next year, as "people are coming back to the well."

Apple reports 2 billion app downloads

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) hit another big milestone today, announcing that its App Store had hit 2 billion total downloads.

The number is pretty impressive to say the least, and will continue to rise at a rapid pace. Apple now has 85,000 applications available for download, and its services are currently being offered in 77 different countries. That number is up from the 65,000 applications that were available this past July.
