Bright and early Friday morning, KBH announced <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20110107-707013.html">quarterly net income of $17.4 million</a>, or 23 cents per share, on revenue of $451 million. Adjusted housing gross margins improved to 19.7% from 19%.</p>
<p>This marks KBH's first quarterly profit, without the aid of tax gains, in almost four years. Analysts were anticipating KBH to swallow a deficit of 17 cents per share on revenue of $441.3 million, so these results definitely qualify as a positive surprise.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/07/kb-home-q4-earnings-report/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>KB Home Rallies After Solid Q4 Report</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/07/kb-home-q4-earnings-report/">KB Home Rallies After Solid Q4 Report</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 07 Jan 2011 12:00:00 EST. The story explained that the housing market should level off in many areas of the country by the end of the year. </p>
<p>I have made some equally unfortunate prognostications in my tenure at <em>BloggingStocks</em>, so my purpose is not to poke fun at <em>Barron's</em> but to point out that here we are, over two years later, and it is still debatable whether the housing market has bottomed out. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/15/chasing-value-home-prices-are-about-to-bottom/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: "Home Prices Are About to Bottom"</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/11/15/chasing-value-home-prices-are-about-to-bottom/">Chasing Value: "Home Prices Are About to Bottom"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 09:00:00 EST. Today, with about three hours to go before the end of the session, it is higher by almost 3.8% to $12.15 on the back of an earnings report.</p>
<p>Indeed, the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/kb-home/kbh/nys/tech-chart">chart</a> shows what I'm talking about. And you have to wonder if the strength in the homebuilder will continue. There is one problem: although volume does stand a chance of ultimately going above the average, at the time of this writing, it isn't too impressive.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/24/kb-home-up-on-q3-report/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>KB Home Up on Q3 Report</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/24/kb-home-up-on-q3-report/">KB Home Up on Q3 Report</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 24 Sep 2010 14:30:00 EST. The release of the National Association of Homebuilders <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Housing%20Market%20Index" class="inlinked">Housing Market Index</a> starts out the week on Monday morning. Then on Tuesday morning, look for <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Housing%20Starts" class="inlinked">housing starts</a> data from August. Release of the July FHFA House Price Index is scheduled for Wednesday. And numbers for <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Existing%20Home%20Sales" class="inlinked">existing home sales</a> and for <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/New%20Home%20Sales" class="inlinked">new home sales</a> in August are due out Thursday and Friday, respectively. <p>Also on the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Economic%20Calendar" class="inlinked">economic calendar</a> this week: Tuesday's <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Federal%20Open%20Market%20Committee,FOMC" class="inlinked">FOMC</a> meeting on interest rates, the Conference Board's Leading Economic Indicators Index for August on Thursday, initial jobless claims for last week, and <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Durable%20Goods%20Orders" class="inlinked">durable goods orders</a> data for August on Friday. This unofficial verdict was up on the day for a seventh day, but this was a sloppy rally today that literally came down to the closing bell. Earnings season got off to a good start, but weak retail data and a <a href="http://247wallst.com/2010/07/14/fomc-minutes-years-of-spotty-economics/">lowered 2010 economic recovery target</a> out of the FOMC Minutes took away the gains that were in place earlier today. The good news is that the fears of a double dip recession seem to have been overdone.<br />

Well, we're starting to find out, and the picture doesn't look good.<br />
<br />
Goldman Sachs has downgraded the entire Homebuilders industry from Attractive to Neutral, dropped MDC Holdings Inc. (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/m-d-c-holdings-inc/mdc/nys">MDC</a>) from its Conviction Buy List and dropped its price targets on 10 stocks in the industry.<br />
<br />
And really, who can blame them?<br />
<br />
We've seen new home sales plunge from 504K in April -- right before the tax credit expired -- to 300K in May. We've also watched housing starts and applications for new building permits dry up. Plus, it is getting harder and harder for individuals to qualify for a loan.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/14/goldman-sachs-slashes-ratings-across-entire-homebuilders-indust/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Goldman Sachs Slashes Ratings Across Entire Homebuilder's Industry</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/14/goldman-sachs-slashes-ratings-across-entire-homebuilders-indust/">Goldman Sachs Slashes Ratings Across Entire Homebuilder's Industry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 14 Jul 2010 14:00:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/best-buy-incorporated/bby/nys">BBY</a>), ConAgra Foods Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/conagra-foods-inc/cag/nys">CAG</a>), Oracle Corp. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/oracle-corporation/orcl/nas">ORCL</a>) and Walgreen Co. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/walgreen-co/wag/nys">WAG</a>), all of which are expected to post earnings and revenue growth, according to analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters. Below is a closer look at a few other companies reporting this week for which expectations are high.</p>
<p>In the three months that ended in January, <strong>Williams-Sonoma</strong> (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/williams-sonoma-inc/wsm/nys">WSM</a>) saw <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/williams-sonoma-inc-announces-a-7-4percent-increase-in-2009-holiday-revenues-and-raises-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2009-revenues-and-eps-guidance/rfid289140017/?channel=pf">strong holiday sales</a>, declared <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/williams-sonoma-inc-declares-quarterly-cash-dividend/rfid282680231/?channel=pf">a quarterly dividend</a>, and announced the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/williams-sonoma-inc-announces-that-howard-lester-chairman-and-ceo-will-retire-in-may-2010-after-leading-the-company-for-31-years/rfid293171155/?channel=pf">retirement of its CEO</a>. Analysts expect the San Francisco-based home products retailer to report that fiscal fourth-quarter earnings more than doubled from the same period of last year to $0.74 per share. Revenue for the period is expected to be 6.2% higher to $1.1 billion. For the full year, the forecast calls for earnings of $0.81 per share (+56.8%) on $3.1 billion in revenue (-8.3%). Williams-Sonoma earnings results have been better than expected in recent quarters -- beating consensus estimates by more than 200% in the third quarter.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/21/the-week-in-preview-eye-on-general-mills-tiffany-williams-son/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Week in Preview: Eye on General Mills, Tiffany, Williams-Sonoma and more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/21/the-week-in-preview-eye-on-general-mills-tiffany-williams-son/">The Week in Preview: Eye on General Mills, Tiffany, Williams-Sonoma and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 21 Mar 2010 12:00:00 EST. Since the collapse of the residential real estate market three years ago prognosticators have been debating when the home builders might be worthy of investing your precious coin of the realm.<br />
<br />
As is to be expected in these volatile times most were either too optimistic or pessimistic and few got it right. Like many stocks the home builders appear to have bottomed last March. In the case of KB Home shares were available at $10. Today they have been trading between $17.64 and $18.00 per share, up 80%, although it has been a rocky road.<br />
<br />
That is a very healthy return, but there is much more upside to come. How would you like to make 43% quick? Yeah me too!<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/17/chasing-value-43-gain-to-build-a-position-in-kb-homes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: 43% Gain to Build a Position in KB Homes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/17/chasing-value-43-gain-to-build-a-position-in-kb-homes/">Chasing Value: 43% Gain to Build a Position in KB Homes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 16:40:00 EST.
