Around one-third of McAfee's value is attributable to security software for businesses by our estimates. McAfee mainly competes with Symantec (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/symantec-corporation/symc/nas">SYMC</a>), Trend Micro, LANDesk Software and Microsoft (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/microsoft-corporation/msft/nas">MSFT</a>) in this segment and offers products like Endpoint Protection, Data Protection and Mobile Phone Security.</p>
<p>McAfee's market share in global enterprise security software market has been consistently rising over the years mainly because of partnerships with PC makers like HP (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/hewlett-packard-company/hpq/nys">HPQ</a>) for small and medium businesses, and the rapid growth of the security-as-a-service market. Increasing smartphone sales has also heightened demand for security against malware threats on mobile devices. McAfee's acquisitions like TrustDigital and WaveSecure in 2010 for developing smartphone security software for enterprise customers is expected to boost its share further.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/17/intel-to-mcafee-let-s-secure-the-cloud/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Intel to McAfee: Let's Secure the Cloud</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/17/intel-to-mcafee-let-s-secure-the-cloud/">Intel to McAfee: Let's Secure the Cloud</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 17 Mar 2011 13:00:00 EST. Symantec recently released a report in which it noted that <a href="http://www.symantec.com/about/news/release/article.jsp?prid=20110117_04">cyber attack tool kits have become more accessible</a> and much easier to use. This report followed incidents in December in which credit card giants Visa (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/visa-inc-visa-inc/v/nys">V</a>) and MasterCard (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/mastercard-incorporated/ma/nys">MA</a>) were <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/12/08/us-wikileaks-idUSL3E6N80HH20101208?pageNumber=1">targeted by cyber attacks</a>.</p>
<p>While such cyber attacks are dangerous for businesses and individuals, they create new business opportunities for antivirus software companies like Symantec, as demand for these products increases. We estimate that security software (for both consumers and businesses) constitutes roughly 50% of our <a href="http://www.trefis.com/company?hm=SYMC.trefis&amp;hk=b557cb09fd54ce3946f047748e6570550d4c4f10">$21.36 price estimate</a> for Symantec stock, while storage software effectively makes up the balance. Our price estimate for Symantec stock is about 20% above the current market price.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/07/sophisticated-cyber-attacks-expand-the-addressable-security-soft/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sophisticated Cyber Attacks Expand the Addressable Security Software Market</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/07/sophisticated-cyber-attacks-expand-the-addressable-security-soft/">Sophisticated Cyber Attacks Expand the Addressable Security Software Market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 07 Mar 2011 09:00:00 EST. But the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/intel-corporation/intc/nas/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> isn't so encouraging for investors. In August, <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/27/intel-should-you-be-a-bull-or-a-bear-on-the-stock/">I wrote a piece</a> that was, at best, extremely hesitant on the short-term prospects for the equity. Long-term, I'm certainly more bullish; how can you not be on a business like Intel, right? <br />
<br />
The shares closed today's regular session at $19.76, which represented a gain of about 1%. The 52-week low for the stock is $17.60, while the 52-week high is $24.37. I'd say that places the market more on the bearish side of the aisle. But the company just reported earnings for the third quarter. What do they tell us about the situation?</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/12/intel-reports-q3-results/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Intel Reports Q3 Results</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/12/intel-reports-q3-results/">Intel Reports Q3 Results</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 12 Oct 2010 18:00:00 EST. <p>Santa Clara, Calif.-based <strong>Intel </strong>announced the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/intel-to-acquire-mcafee/rfid359365006/?channel=pf">acquisition of McAfee</a> and joint ventures with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/ge-intel-to-form-new-healthcare-joint-venture/rfid354017938/?channel=pf">General Electric</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/intel-and-nokia-create-first-joint-laboratory/rfid360718221/?channel=pf">Nokia</a> (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nokia-corporation/nok/nys">NOK</a>) during its third quarter. Analysts forecast earnings for that period to come to 50 cents per share, which is up 34.0% from the same period of last year. The number one semiconductor maker's revenue for the three months ended in September is expected to total $11.0 billion, or 17.1% more than a year earlier. Looking ahead to the full year, the forecast thus far is for earnings of $1.94 per share (+44.8%) and $43.3 billion in revenue (+23.4%). (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/intel-corporation/intc/nas">INTC</a>). In fact, they seem bewildered by the move. Why in the world would a maker of chip sets want to own a data security software provider? Let me tell you why.</p>
<p>The days when we subscribed to a third-party service to download those clunky security patches will soon be gone -- and not missed. Those annoying downloads and incessant updates will go the way of the dinosaurs. Intel is preparing for the next generation of data security. Soon your data security will be provided as an integral part of your data handling and communication devices. It will finally be manufactured right into your chip sets. That's the way it should have been long ago.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/30/intel-offers-investors-a-safe-bet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Intel Offers Investors a Safe Bet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/30/intel-offers-investors-a-safe-bet/">Intel Offers Investors a Safe Bet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 30 Aug 2010 10:30:00 EST. I've been pretty positive on the company so far this year. But we all know how Wall Street can play havoc with the emotions. No matter whether you're a long-term investor or a short-term trader, price action can shake you up.</p>
<p>The chip maker's recent price action has been terrible. Even worse, the fundamentals have to be questioned as well. According to <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/company-news/intel-lowers-third-quarter-revenue-forecast/19610936/">this source</a>, third-quarter guidance took a hit.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/27/intel-should-you-be-a-bull-or-a-bear-on-the-stock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Intel: Should You Be a Bull or a Bear on the Stock?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/27/intel-should-you-be-a-bull-or-a-bear-on-the-stock/">Intel: Should You Be a Bull or a Bear on the Stock?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 27 Aug 2010 18:00:00 EST. <br />
Boosted by likely FY2010/FY2011 EPS <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ae?s=mfe">of $2.57 to $2.85</a>, McAfee probably would have re-tested $45 later this year, assuming the U.S. economic recovery remained intact, then took on the $50 hurdle in 2011.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/24/intel-s-buy-of-mcafee-unexpected-but-pleasant/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Intel's Buy of McAfee: Unexpected, but Pleasant</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/24/intel-s-buy-of-mcafee-unexpected-but-pleasant/">Intel's Buy of McAfee: Unexpected, but Pleasant</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 15:00:00 EST. <p>This move comes as a bit of a surprise, as some analysts and investors believe the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Acquisition" class="inlinked">acquisition</a> shows the importance that computing firms are applying to security. Intel noted that more "elements of our lives have moved online," meaning that security will become a "third pillar of what people demand from all computing experiences." Intel said that the deal "elevates focus on security on par with energy-efficient performance and connectivity." Bottom line: Intel wants to protect customers who are taking advantage of our new online lifestyle.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/19/intel-to-acquire-mcafee/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Intel to Purchase McAfee</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/19/intel-to-acquire-mcafee/">Intel to Purchase McAfee</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 19 Aug 2010 12:30:00 EST. Here, they look at three favorite technology stocks: Cisco Systems (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/cisco-systems-inc/csco/nas">CSCO</a>), IBM (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/international-business-machines-corporation/ibm/nys">IBM</a>) and McAfee (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/mcafee-inc/mfe/nys">MFE</a>).<br />
<br />
They explains, "Global Internet traffic is projected to grow 40 to 50 percent annually for the foreseeable future. According to Cisco, wireless data traffic is growing at an annualized rate of more than 130 percent, solid fundamentals. <br />
<br />
"In the first quarter, 82 percent of S&amp;P 500 companies beat earnings estimates, whereas 90 percent of the index's technology names though it accounts for less than 1 percent of total traffic.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/24/cisco-csco-ibm-ibm-and-mcafee-mfe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Technology Favorites: Cisco (CSCO), IBM (IBM) and McAfee (MFE)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/24/cisco-csco-ibm-ibm-and-mcafee-mfe/">Technology Favorites: Cisco (CSCO), IBM (IBM) and McAfee (MFE)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 10:00:00 EST. The good news is that the inflationary component remained weak enough that it is harder to argue against the FOMC's no-to-low rate policy. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/mcafee-inc/mfe/nys">MFE</a>), first discussed here <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/05/mcafee-knows-system-security-pays-off-in-the-long-run/">on July 5, 2009</a> at a price of $40.82, continues to exhibit sideways action, but I still like the shares. Here's why: <br />
<br />
Look for McAfee's revenue to increase 10% to 15% in 2010, as the slow recovery in IT spending continues. Further, companies have delayed upgrading their IT networks for an extended period, hence this should serve as a decent tailwind for MFE in the second half of 2010. Of course, there are no guarantees.<br />
<br />
The company also has ample room to increase market share in key markets, and margins should also inch higher in 2010. The First Call FY2010/FY2011 EPS estimates for MFE <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ae?s=MFE+Analyst+Estimates">are $2.70 to $3.01</a>.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/29/mcafee-continues-to-meander/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>McAfee Continues to Meander</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/29/mcafee-continues-to-meander/">McAfee Continues to Meander</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 14:30:00 EST. If you think that the stock won't fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on MFE.<br /> <br /> MFE opened this morning at $37.73. So far today the stock has hit a low of $37.66 and a high of $40.29. As of 11:30, MFE is trading at $39.55 up $1.66 (4.4%). The chart for MFE looks bullish and <a href="http://www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline" target="_blank">S&amp;P</a> gives MFE a positive 4 STARS (out of 5) buy ranking.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/12/mcafee-rises-on-q4-earnings-and-buyback-plan/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>McAfee Rises on Q4 Earnings and Buyback Plan</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/12/mcafee-rises-on-q4-earnings-and-buyback-plan/">McAfee Rises on Q4 Earnings and Buyback Plan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 12 Feb 2010 13:30:00 EST. A hold rating had been issued <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/13/mcafee-hold-shares/#continued">on November 13, 2009</a>, after McAfee's stock chart formed a short-term <a href="http://clearstation.etrade.com/cgi-bin/details?Symbol=mfe&amp;Refer=http://clearstation.etrade.com/cgi-bin/delisted_symbol%3fSymbol%3dwfe%26Event%3ddetails">double-top </a>at $46.<p>
However, McAfee's chart is now showing signs that it will hold support <a href="http://clearstation.etrade.com/cgi-bin/details?Symbol=mfe&amp;Refer=http://clearstation.etrade.com/cgi-bin/delisted_symbol%3fSymbol%3dwfe%26Event%3ddetails">at or near $37, </a>hence the upgrade to buy.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/02/mcafee-upgraded-to-buy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>McAfee: Upgraded to Buy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/02/mcafee-upgraded-to-buy/">McAfee: Upgraded to Buy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 10:30:00 EST. Here's why: <br /><br />The company reported Q3 EPS of 62 cents, which beat the <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ae?s=mfe">First Call Q3 EPS estimate of 61 cents</a>, but of course Wall Street was not satisfied, and sold the stock. It seems with most companies it takes a 10% or better quarterly 'earnings beat' to keep institutional investors satisfied these days.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/13/mcafee-hold-shares/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>McAfee: Hold shares</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/13/mcafee-hold-shares/">McAfee: Hold shares</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 14:20:00 EST.
