This week, Dell (DELL) highlights a handful of results from tech companies. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters are looking for fourth-quarter earnings of 37 cents per share from the one of the world's top PC purveyors. That's up from 28 cents per share during the same period a year ago. Dell also is expected to report its revenue grew 5.5% year over year to $15.7 billion, for the three months that ended in January.

Continue reading Week in Preview: Mid-Quarter Earnings (DELL, SJM, MAR, JWN)

Week in Preview: Mid-Quarter Earnings (DELL, SJM, MAR, JWN) originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Sun, 13 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. Scanning the headlines, it seems that traders are responding to a bullish endorsement for the gaming guru from CNBC analyst Jim Cramer.

"Las Vegas is coming back," declared Jim Cramer on Friday's episode of Mad Money. About 30,000 puts crossed the tape during the course of the session, compared to MGM's typical put volume of just 13,000 contracts.

The International Securities Exchange (ISE) reports that traders on Friday bought to open 5,064 puts on MGM, compared to just 1,009 calls. In other words, traders purchased roughly five times more puts than calls.

In fact, MGM now sports a 10-day ISE put/call volume ratio of 1.25, which ranks higher than 97.5% of other such readings taken during the past year. This lofty ratio reveals that speculative investors have rarely scooped up puts over calls at a faster pace.

Continue reading Bears Brace for a Pullback from MGM Mirage

Bears Brace for a Pullback from MGM Mirage originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 01 Feb 2010 15:30:00 EST. Or maybe that was just an excuse to sell after Warren Buffett said there are no green shoots out there.

This was on the heels of a solid durable goods number and on the heels of weak new home sales. It seems that news is just an excuse to pare down positions now in case we get that solid pullback so many traders were hoping for.
