No, this isn't another one of those crazy sci-fi/space posts. This is for real: If you had enough of traffic, look no further than ... eBay. Or rather, what is being sold on eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) these days -- flying cars.
The M400X Skycar VTOL Prototype Aircraft takes off and lands vertically but can also taxi (travel on the road), albeit with limited speed and not for long distances. The car is Moller International Inc.'s original flying car.
The catch? Of course there's a catch. The aircraft "is suitable for test and evaluation only and is not certified for use by the Federal Aviation Authority nor as a licensed road vehicle." Also, the sale is subject to all kinds of approvals because of the aircraft's potential military application among other issues.
The eBay auction started yesterday and already has 16 bids with the highest at $1,750,000. As far as I understood, though, the reserve price is around $4 million. With nearly nine more days left on the auction, Moller might just get the price it is looking for.
Moller International Inc. is trading on the OTCBB (MLER) and the sale of the car is intended to fund more tests.
