When Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/berkshire-hathaway-inc-cl-a/brk.a/nys">BRK.A</a> and <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/berkshire-hathaway-inc-cl-b/brk.b/nys">BRK.B</a>) speaks, investors listen.<br />
<br />
On Wednesday March 2, this investor threw in his two cents worth (see:<a target="_blank" title="View Serious Money: What Should Warren Buffett Do Next? on BloggingStocks" href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/02/warren-buffett-next%20move/">Serious Money: What Should Warren Buffett Do Next?</a>) discussing possible acquisitions. Since all the "pro's", I use the term loosely, have had a say I thought I would give readers a chance to express some of their ideas too.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/04/serious-money-buffetts-next-buys-you-pickem/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Serious Money: Buffett's Next Buys -- You Pick'em</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/04/serious-money-buffetts-next-buys-you-pickem/">Serious Money: Buffett's Next Buys -- You Pick'em</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 15:00:00 EST. Since then, prognosticators far and wide have been making suggestions about his next possible moves.</p>
<p>Considering I wrote about the railroads the day before the BNSF announcement, I thought I would share a few ideas, old and new.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/02/warren-buffett-next move/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Serious Money: What Should Warren Buffett Do Next?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/02/warren-buffett-next move/">Serious Money: What Should Warren Buffett Do Next?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 02 Mar 2011 09:20:00 EST. <p>The editor of <a href="http://web.streetauthority.com/hy-intl-sample.asp?TC=HN0399">High Yield International</a> explains, "Based in London, the company's largest market is still the UK, and it holds a virtual monopoly on the electricity transmission grid in England and Wales.</p>
<p>"Its primary business is to balance the supply and demand of electricity and natural gas and transmit that power from producers to customers across its network of high-voltage transmission wires and natural gas pipelines.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/02/national-grid-ngg-defensive-income/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>National Grid (NGG): Defensive Income</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/02/national-grid-ngg-defensive-income/">National Grid (NGG): Defensive Income</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 02 Feb 2011 15:00:00 EST. One such <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/24/serious-money-buffett-going-global-part-4/">stock in the June 24</a> post was National Grid PLC (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/national-grid-plc/ngg/nys">NGG</a>), which closed Friday October 8 at $45.43.</p>
<p>At the time of the recommendation, the stock was at $37.81. It was 33% off its high and, besides strong fundamentals, is a company that resembles Berkshire Hathaway's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/financials/berkshire-hathaway-inc-cl-a/brk.a/nys/key-ratios">BRK.A</a>) Mid-American utility holdings. I thought it would be a good fit for further integration and growth of this division, given that both also have British and U.S. enterprises.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/11/chasing-value-national-grid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: National Grid -- Maybe Warren Did</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/11/chasing-value-national-grid/">Chasing Value: National Grid -- Maybe Warren Did</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 14:00:00 EST. The strategic benefits, depressed stock price and yield all made it look like a good fit.<br />
<br />
Ten days ago, <a href="http://online.barrons.com/article/SB60001424052970203296004575352863897713790.html"><em>Barron's</em> trumpeted National Grid</a>, a British company traded on the NYSE, for all the same reasons, absent the merger and acquisition possibilities.<br />
<br />
So last week I bought NGG on a dip as a value proposition and if by some miracle <em>"my pal Warren"</em> makes a play for it that would be a bonus. Not to mention my crystal ball would go up in value. If you might be interested in a 7.72% yield from a company with the cash flow to back it up, read on.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/21/national-grid-ngg-cheap-with-high-yield/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: NGG, Buffett, Barron's and Me</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/07/21/national-grid-ngg-cheap-with-high-yield/">Chasing Value: NGG, Buffett, Barron's and Me</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 14:00:00 EST. <br />
In searching for global investment prospects that might interest Warren Buffett we have established that <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/16/serious-money-buffett-looking-beyond-our-borders-next-moves/">newly allocated capital would most likely pursue companies that pay a dividend</a> and make products or operate in sectors that are well established and have a high level of certainty to exist decades into the future. This is basic to <em>"my pal Warren's</em>" investment philosophy, and there is no reason to think this will change.<br />
<br />
In <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/17/serious-money-buffett-looking-beyond-our-borders-part-2/">Part 2 of this series we then examined the size</a> of a potential investment settling on a general range from $4 billion to $24 billion.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/24/serious-money-buffett-going-global-part-4/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Serious Money: Buffett Going Global -- Part 4</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/24/serious-money-buffett-going-global-part-4/">Serious Money: Buffett Going Global -- Part 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 14:30:00 EST.
