Newspaper wrap-up: Wendy's sale may be delayed

FCC chairman Ken Martin may use an obscure portion of the 1984 Cable Act to force cable companies to cut the rates they charge programmers who lease spare channels, reported the Wall Street Journal.
The sale of Wendy's International Inc (NYSE: WEN) may be delayed due to the turmoil in the credit market, the New York Times reported.

OTHER PAPERS:

The UK Times reported that Baugur Group has hired NM Rothschild and Financo to help advise on the takeover of Saks Incorporated (NYSE: SKS). The takeover bid is said to be worth between $3B and $4B.
Time Warner Inc's (NYSE: TWX) AOL division acquired question-and-answer-service Web site Yedda for tens of millions of dollars, Haaretz reported.

According to TMCnet.com, the recent news of Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE: S) no longer working with Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ: CLWR) only adds to the rumors of an acquisition by Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG).

The Dow Jones & Company Inc (NYSE: DJ) controlling Bancroft family will meet in private today to review News Corporation's (NYSE: NWS) $5B offer from about two weeks ago to buy the company, reported the Wall Street Journal (subscription required).
According to the Wall Street Journal's "Live Mint," Citigroup Inc (NYSE: C) is in talks with potential bidders, including IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM), for a stake in its business process outsourcing arm, Citigroup Global Services.
The Financial Times (subscription required) reported that Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) will focus on becoming more personalized over the next five years, said Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

According to inside sources, Canadian aluminum company Alcan Inc (NYSE: AL) has entered talks with global mining giant BHP Billiton Limited (NYSE: BHP) after rejecting a $28.4B hostile takeover attempt by Alcoa Inc (NYSE: AA), reported the Globe and Mail.

MAJOR PAPERS:

According to the Wall Street Journal's (subscription required) "Heard on the Street," Navigant Consulting Inc (NYSE: NCI), which looks for improper stock-options backdating for other companies, may want to inspect its own records.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) will acquire Initial Electronic Security Group, a unit of Rentokil Initial plc (OTC: RTOKY) for $1.17B in cash.
The Financial Times (subscription required) reported that billionaires Ron Burkle and Eli Broad submitted a last-minute offer for Tribune Company (NYSE: TRB) last night, offering $34 a share, according to sources.

BusinessWeek reported, citing sources close to the companies, that DaimlerChrysler AG's (NYSE: DCX) Chrysler Group unit is getting a bids from Magna International Inc (NYSE: MGA) and Cerberus Capital Management. Cerberus has decided to pursue Chrysler alone, while Magna will partner with a different private equity group to make its bid.
The Globe and Mail reported that BCE Inc (NYSE: BCE) is reportedly considering radical changes that could include a merger with Telus Corporation (NYSE: TU), after rejecting advances by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.

CNet.com's Gadgets blog reported that AT&T Inc's (NYSE: T) Cingular has confirmed that the release date of Apple Inc's (NASDAQ: AAPL) upcoming iPhone will be June 11, the first day of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.
