<p><img alt="" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.bloggingstocks.com/media/2008/12/nilus_mattive.gif" align="left" vspace="4" border="1" />As the name implies, <a href="http://www.thestockadvisors.com/ccount/click.php?id=2715 ">Dividend Superstars</a> focuses on quality income-generating ideas. Here, <a href="http://www.thestockadvisors.com/ccount/click.php?id=2715 ">Nilus Mattive</a> looks to <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/patterson-uti-energy-inc/pten/nas">Patterson-UTI</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/patterson-uti-energy-inc/pten/nas">PTEN</a>) as his top "contrarian" idea for 2009.</p>
<p>"For the Dividend Superstars Annual Forecast Issue, I screened for companies that had zero debt, single-digit P/Es, recent dividend hikes, payout ratios under 25%, a dividend coverage ratio exceeding 2.</p>
<p>"While it was a tall order, one company jumped to the top of my list: Patterson-UTI. As one of the biggest land-based drillers in North America, the company is highly correlated to demand and prices for that commodity.</p>
<p>"Recently, that hasn't been a good thing, especially because the slowing economy and tight credit has made companies less inclined to drill. The shares have gotten, well, drilled!</p>
<p>"But everything is cyclical. And Patterson-UTI has the financial wherewithal to weather the storm. It also has plenty of money to dole out to shareholders.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/01/13/top-stock-picks-09-patternson-uti-pten/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Top Stock Picks '09: Patternson-UTI (PTEN)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/01/13/top-stock-picks-09-patternson-uti-pten/">Top Stock Picks '09: Patternson-UTI (PTEN)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 10:06:00 EST. In what some took as a good sign for big oil, the Houston-based company reported that <a href="http://money.aol.com/news/articles/qp/pr/_a/conocophillips-reports-third-quarter-net/rfid151211823">third quarter net income surged</a> 41% year over year to $3.39 per share, and that revenue also surged 52% to $70 billion. We'll see whether the good news extends to other petroleum giants scheduled to report quarterly results this week. </p>

Even <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">Valero Energy Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">VLO</a>) is expected to post earnings slightly higher to $1.46 per share (sales of $36.4 billion), despite the effects of Hurricane Ike. To answer this question, I surveyed 20 of the nation's leading financial newsletter advisors to find their current favorite ideas in the energy sector. </p>
<p>Interestingly, the advisors see the best opportunities in areas well beyond traditional oil firms; indeed, no one included in this report chose a major integrated oil company. Rather, the advisors have shown a preference for various oil services sectors, non-oil energy sources, and developing alternative technologies. </p>
<p>Some focus on areas such as deep-sea operations with <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diamond-offshore-drilling-inc/do/nys">Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diamond-offshore-drilling-inc/do/nys">DO</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/transocean-inc/rig/nys">Transocean Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/transocean-inc/rig/nys">RIG</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/oceaneering-international-inc/oii/nys">Oceaneering International</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/oceaneering-international-inc/oii/nys">OII</a>), while others look toward oil shippers such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nordic-american-tanker-shipping-ltd/nat/nys">Nordic American Tanker Shipping</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/nordic-american-tanker-shipping-ltd/nat/nys">NAT</a>) and refiners such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">Valero Energy Corp.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/valero-energy-corporation/vlo/nys">VLO</a>). </p>
<p>Others chose companies that make specific products needed by the oil &amp; gas industries such as <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/natco-group-inc/ntg/nys">NATCO Group Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/natco-group-inc/ntg/nys">NTG</a>), which makes a wide range of oil &amp; gas processing systems; <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/dresser-rand-group-inc/drc/nys">Dresser-Rand Group Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/dresser-rand-group-inc/drc/nys">DRC</a>), a maker of control systems; <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/gardner-denver-inc/gdi/nys">Gardner Denver Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/gardner-denver-inc/gdi/nys">GDI</a>), which makes compressor and fluid transfer systems; <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/tenaris-s-a-ads/ts/nys">Tenaris</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/tenaris-s-a-ads/ts/nys">TS</a>), a maker of pipes and tublar products and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/schlumberger-limited/slb/nys">Schlumberger Ltd.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/schlumberger-limited/slb/nys">SLB</a>), the largest and most diversified of the oil services companies.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/19/best-energy-ideas-favorites-from-the-newsletter-advisors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best energy ideas: Favorites from the newsletter advisors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/19/best-energy-ideas-favorites-from-the-newsletter-advisors/">Best energy ideas: Favorites from the newsletter advisors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 19 Oct 2007 13:10:00 EST.
