How does the stock look now that the latest numbers are out? <br />
<br />
Well, from a fundamental point of view, things are looking pretty good. According to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/28/us-phillipsvanheusen-idUSTRE72R6DA20110328">Reuters</a>, the apparel concern made an adjusted 93 cents per share. Talk about a beat: that number was ten pennies above the consensus projection. In terms of guidance, management expects to bring in an adjusted profit between $4.70 and $4.95 per share over the next fiscal year; Wall Street was thinking that $4.75 per share was likely.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/30/phillips-van-heusen-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Phillips-Van Heusen: Buy or Sell?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/30/phillips-van-heusen-earnings/">Phillips-Van Heusen: Buy or Sell?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 15:50:00 EST. But analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters have high hopes for results from fertilizer and animal feed maker Mosaic (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-mosaic-company/mos/nys">MOS</a>), apparel maker Phillips Van Heusen (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/phillips-van-heusen-corporation/pvh/nys">PVH</a>) and discount retailer Family Dollar (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/family-dollar-stores-inc/fdo/nys">FDO</a>). So here's a look at what they anticipate from these three companies.</p>
<p><strong>Mosaic</strong></p>
<p>During its fiscal second quarter, Cargill agreed to distribute <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/mosaic-and-cargill-agree-to-split-off-and-orderly-distribution-of-cargill-stake-in-mosaic/rfid405938161/?channel=pf">its stake in Mosaic</a>, and Mosaic also said it would <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/mosaic-to-redeem-455-million-2014-senior-notes/rfid394641356/?channel=pf">redeem senior notes</a>. Analysts anticipate that the Minnesota-based potash producer will report per-share earnings of $1.07, a jump of 53.3% from the same quarter of last year. Mosaic also is expected to post revenue of $2.4 billion for the three months that ended in February. That's a 35.9% rise from a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/27/week-in-preview-mosaic-family-dollar-earnings-and-march-unempl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Mosaic, Family Dollar Earnings and March Unemployment Rate</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/27/week-in-preview-mosaic-family-dollar-earnings-and-march-unempl/">Week in Preview: Mosaic, Family Dollar Earnings and March Unemployment Rate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 27 Mar 2011 12:30:00 EST. Already nearing 9-month lows, markets were set to begin the session lower as a combination of North Korea military action threats against the South and more Spanish banks woes further shook investors' confidence.<br />
<br />
South Korean monitors said that Kim Jong Il last week ordered the military to get ready for combat. South Korean officials could not immediately confirm the report and the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff said they have not obtained any signs suggesting unusual activity by North Korea's military. But that was enough to <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/world-stocks-sag-on-renewed-europe-fears/646657/">send South Korea's market down</a> 2.8%. Other Asian markets followed suit with Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average shedding 3.1%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index falling 3.3%, and other markets dropping 2% to 3% or more.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/25/before-the-bell-futures-drop-sharply-dow-could-lose-10-000-lev/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Before the Bell: Futures Drop Sharply; Dow Could Lose 10,000 Level</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/25/before-the-bell-futures-drop-sharply-dow-could-lose-10-000-lev/">Before the Bell: Futures Drop Sharply; Dow Could Lose 10,000 Level</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 25 May 2010 08:25:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/phillips-van-heusen-corporation/pvh/nys">PVH</a>) issued <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/phillips-van-heusen-corporation-reports-2009-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-results/rfid311585161/?channel=pf">Q4 numbers</a> Monday after the bell. The apparel maker, which recently purchased the Tommy Hilfiger brand, doubled its adjusted income to 61 cents per share. That was two pennies <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=pvh">ahead of estimates</a>. The top line increased 9%, also on an adjusted basis.</p>
<p>When you compare the fourth quarter's growth rates to the performance of the full fiscal year, you'll see a clear advantage to the former. On Monday, U.S. stocks closed higher as Wall Street digested the the passage of a sweeping U.S. health care reform bill late Sunday. Healthcare stocks performed well despite the initial negative reaction as perhaps the end of months of uncertainty gave the sector the much needed stability.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/23/before-the-bell-futures-mixed-ahead-of-housing-data/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Before the Bell: Futures Mixed Ahead of Housing Data</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/23/before-the-bell-futures-mixed-ahead-of-housing-data/">Before the Bell: Futures Mixed Ahead of Housing Data</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 23 Mar 2010 08:13:00 EST. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/best-buy-incorporated/bby/nys">BBY</a>), ConAgra Foods Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/conagra-foods-inc/cag/nys">CAG</a>), Oracle Corp. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/oracle-corporation/orcl/nas">ORCL</a>) and Walgreen Co. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/walgreen-co/wag/nys">WAG</a>), all of which are expected to post earnings and revenue growth, according to analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters. Below is a closer look at a few other companies reporting this week for which expectations are high.</p>
<p>In the three months that ended in January, <strong>Williams-Sonoma</strong> (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/williams-sonoma-inc/wsm/nys">WSM</a>) saw <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/williams-sonoma-inc-announces-a-7-4percent-increase-in-2009-holiday-revenues-and-raises-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2009-revenues-and-eps-guidance/rfid289140017/?channel=pf">strong holiday sales</a>, declared <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/williams-sonoma-inc-declares-quarterly-cash-dividend/rfid282680231/?channel=pf">a quarterly dividend</a>, and announced the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/williams-sonoma-inc-announces-that-howard-lester-chairman-and-ceo-will-retire-in-may-2010-after-leading-the-company-for-31-years/rfid293171155/?channel=pf">retirement of its CEO</a>. Analysts expect the San Francisco-based home products retailer to report that fiscal fourth-quarter earnings more than doubled from the same period of last year to $0.74 per share. Revenue for the period is expected to be 6.2% higher to $1.1 billion. For the full year, the forecast calls for earnings of $0.81 per share (+56.8%) on $3.1 billion in revenue (-8.3%). Williams-Sonoma earnings results have been better than expected in recent quarters -- beating consensus estimates by more than 200% in the third quarter.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/21/the-week-in-preview-eye-on-general-mills-tiffany-williams-son/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Week in Preview: Eye on General Mills, Tiffany, Williams-Sonoma and more</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/21/the-week-in-preview-eye-on-general-mills-tiffany-williams-son/">The Week in Preview: Eye on General Mills, Tiffany, Williams-Sonoma and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 21 Mar 2010 12:00:00 EST. Investors remained concerned about possible monetary tightening in China, the growing risks to credit ratings of Triple-A nations after pushing Wall Street to 18-month highs. Attention was also turned to the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting.<br />
<br />
The Federal Reserve is scheduled to meet Tuesday. While it is unlikely to raise a key interest rate from historic lows, the policy statement, released Wednesday, may contain clues as to when the Fed might make a move.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/15/before-the-bell-futures-lower-ahead-of-data/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Before the Bell: Futures Lower Ahead of Data</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/15/before-the-bell-futures-lower-ahead-of-data/">Before the Bell: Futures Lower Ahead of Data</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 15 Mar 2010 08:30:00 EST.
