The action includes Quattro Tour models made before November 2006 and MetroLite strollers and travel systems made before July 2007.

Graco said that children can slip through the space between the tray and seat when they are not harnessed. The company reported that the problem has caused nine injuries, but four deaths have apparently been tied to the strollers as well. Remember, Johnson & Johnson had a massive recall of some of its over-the-counter (OTC) medicines.

Turns out that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announced Tuesday that it obtained an e-mail highlighting an agreement between the FDA and Johnson & Johnson that would allow the company to "conduct an unpublicized recall of adult Motrin." Motrin is produced by Johnson & Johnson's McNeil consumer medicines, and this is the unit that was allowed to carry out the "phantom recall."

Continue reading Johnson & Johnson, the FDA and a Phantom Recall

Johnson & Johnson, the FDA and a Phantom Recall originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 11:10:00 EST. The report notes that 373,000 of the automobiles are Avalon sedans from the 2000 through 2004 model years and 39,000 are LX470 SUVs from model years 2003 through 2007. The automaker announced that the steering lock bar in the Avalon could break "under certain conditions," while the LX470s are being recalled to "eliminate the risk of steering shaft disengagement."
The company said that it has received three accident reports involving the Avalon and none involving the LX470.
The problem with the SUVs involved the vehicles electronic stabilizer, which was unable to adequately correct the SUV when sliding out in corners.
Continue reading The Lexus GX 460 Is Back on the Market

The Lexus GX 460 Is Back on the Market originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 16:00:00 EST. This time the recall involves its Sequoia sports utility vehicle due to concerns regarding the stability control on the 2003 model year. This is the second time this month that the company has recalled some of its SUVs.

The back's stability control system is supposed to correct a loss of traction in the front or rear tires when the SUV enters a corner. There have been reports that the system activated when the vehicle was moving at slow speed and resulted in drivers not being able to accelerate, and in some cases the brakes coming on and slowing the SUV down unexpectedly.
Continue reading More Recalls Involving Toyota SUVs

More Recalls Involving Toyota SUVs originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 29 Apr 2010 09:30:00 EST. Honda owners are complaining that the brake pedals in their cars have become soft and low-riding over time. Honda Motors has attributed the problem to the vehicle stability assist modulator, stating that an accumulation of air is causing the problem.
Continue reading Honda Catches the Toyota Brake Recall Flu

Honda Catches the Toyota Brake Recall Flu originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 12:00:00 EST. Supposedly, some of the cars that have already been repaired are now having a problem with sudden acceleration. This problem has been reported in either 15 or 10 drivers (depending on which article you read), but it's enough to cause a bit of a stir.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), which received the complaints, said that it wants to know about any further acceleration problems in Toyota vehicles. According to the Associated Press, Toyota is investigating the matter but is confident about the recall repairs it made.

Continue reading Toyota Faces More Recall Issues

Toyota Faces More Recall Issues originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 04 Mar 2010 11:20:00 EST. The company is back in the news today with accusations that Toyota tried to hide data in lawsuits filed by Toyota drivers injured in crashes.

The accusation came from New York Democrat, Edolphus Towns. Towns stated that the company deliberately shielded some of its design and testing data, and in many instances settled lawsuits in order to avoid turning over the information.
Continue reading Toyota Accused of Withholding Test Data

Toyota Accused of Withholding Test Data originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 26 Feb 2010 18:30:00 EST. If people were concerned before, they are sure to be a bit more confused after a Toyota executive testified in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee today that the recall may not "totally solve" the current problems.

Last week Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda, was asked to come before Congress and testify over the current safety recalls. Mr. Toyoda will answer questions tomorrow, but today it was James E. Lentz III, the president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., that had his chance to answer questions in front of Congress.
Continue reading Toyota Official Testifies That Recall May Not Totally Fix Problems

Toyota Official Testifies That Recall May Not Totally Fix Problems originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 18:00:00 EST.
Tuesday, Toyota had to recall 440,000 Prius and other hybrids thanks to brake problems, pushing the company's total global recall to 8.5 million cars and trucks. Pretty much all of that press coverage depicts a company that is writhing in shame on the one hand and that is desperately looking to retake a foothold within itself on the other. My initial reaction to the knee-jerk downward pressure on TM that seems to be the result of this situation is: Really, you have got to be kidding.

First of all, how many of the people who might be reading this blog found themselves taken aback by the announcement that some automobiles were being recalled? Yes, I understand that the potential vehicle problems are serious. Yes, I understand that the situation affects literally millions of vehicles. However, at its root, this is just another recall of just another manufacturer's product. It's hardly an earth-shattering event.

Continue reading Toyota Recalls Are Much Ado About Not Much

Toyota Recalls Are Much Ado About Not Much originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Fri, 05 Feb 2010 18:00:00 EST. J&J previously recalled five lots of the over-the-counter painkiller, but the recall has now been expanded to all product lots of the Arthritis Pain Caplet 100-count bottles with the red EZ-Open cap.

The musty odor, according to Johnson & Johnson, can be traced back to a chemical known as 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, which results from the breakdown of a different chemical in wooden pallets used in transporting and storage. J&J will resume production of the 100-count Arthritis Pain Caplets in January, after relocating production to a new facility.

Continue reading Johnson & Johnson Recalling Tainted Tylenol Bottles

Johnson & Johnson Recalling Tainted Tylenol Bottles originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 29 Dec 2009 12:30:00 EST.
But even tough products can crack. Apparently that was the fault the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission found with Under Armour's athletic cups when it issued a recall for over 200,000 protective cups bearing Under Armour's logo. Later, the news began to hearken to the beginning of the peanut recall, in which I wondered how many foods could be impacted (oh, I had no idea!). The pistachio nuts' originator, Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Calif., decided to recall its 2008 crop after Kraft (NYSE: KFT) tested some of its pistachio-containing products and found "several types of salmonella." Where the possibly tainted pistachios ended up isn't clear, but Kraft pulled a trail mix with pistachios.

The nuts were sent in 1,000-pound and 2000-pound bags to wholesalers, who then parceled the pistachios further to redistribute them among retailers and manufacturers. As I wrote on DailyFinance, this is yet another example of a food industry that is built on logistics, not food; quality ingredients are marketing, not reality. Neither Kroger nor Kraft nor even (to point a finger at random) Unilever's Haagen-Dazs ice cream can trace to the individual farm the origin of all of their ingredients, no matter how many times the packaging mentions it.

It's further proof that food safety is not truly possible in the industry as it currently stands.
Pistachio recall could be widespread, includes Kraft originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 18:10:00 EST. For were Peanut Corporation of America Chinese, managers would surely be facing the death penalty. Today officials at the FDA revealed that the Georgia plant responsible for the salmonella outbreak currently linked to eight deaths and 500 sicknesses across the country -- and leading to recalls of more than 100 products -- knowingly shipped peanut butter contaminated with salmonella.

In a dozen tests over a two-year period, internal testing revealed salmonella in peanut butter at the plant, but it was shipped, anyway. The plant was riddled with four separate strains of salmonella in tests conducted by the CDC. Panicky consumers (me, for instance) have already started to forgo purchasing other peanut butter products from manufacturers not linked to the recall.
Continue reading Peanut Corp. knew salmonella was in its peanut butter

Peanut Corp. knew salmonella was in its peanut butter originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 21:40:00 EST.
