<p>Clearly, investors view BIG as a <a href="http://www.investorplace.com/experts/richard_young/gallery/winning-stocks.html">recession stock</a> to own.<br /><br />Earnings from continuing operations totaled a dollar per share, ahead of the 93 cents per share analysts were expecting, and 3 cents higher than the year-ago quarter. Revenue fell to $1.37 billion from $1.41 billion last year, but beat expectations of $1.36 billion. Same-store sales fell a mild 3.2%, as sales of discretionary items, such as furniture and toys, were challenging.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/05/recession-stock-big-lots/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Recession stock: Big Lots</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/03/05/recession-stock-big-lots/">Recession stock: Big Lots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 05 Mar 2009 15:50:00 EST. Among the essential purchases, food label options have dwindled as manufacturers and retailers have dropped numerous items from the store shelves.<br /><br /><a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/kraft-foods-inc/kft/nys">Kraft Foods</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/kraft-foods-inc/kft/nys">KFT</a>) for example has eliminated many less profitable items from its product lines, dropping labels like the <em>South Beach Living</em> frozen meals. As a result of the reduction of product offerings and the impact of currency valuations, Kraft is projecting a decline in first-quarter 2009 revenues of 5%.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/02/24/kraft-foods-kft-still-an-anti-recession-bet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kraft Foods (KFT) still an anti-recession bet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/02/24/kraft-foods-kft-still-an-anti-recession-bet/">Kraft Foods (KFT) still an anti-recession bet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 15:35:00 EST.
