The Chinese electronic media entity didn't do so well after I expressed a <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/02/should-you-buy-shares-of-shanda/">positive comment</a> on the business. But what about now?<br />
<br />
Well, according to <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/SNDAid1251240/SNDA-Shanda-Interactive-reports-Q-nonGAAP-EPS-c-vs-consensus-of-c">TheFly</a>, the company's adjusted Q1 net profit missed the analyst call. Shanda made 58 cents per American Depositary Share (ADS) versus an expectation of 65 cents per ADS. Pretty disappointing. As is the fact that the ADSs are not in the midst of a strong period. Right now, they're priced at roughly $43. The 52-week high is an even $65.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/03/not-the-time-for-shanda-interactive/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Not the Time for Shanda Interactive?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/03/not-the-time-for-shanda-interactive/">Not the Time for Shanda Interactive?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 03 Jun 2010 15:30:00 EST. According to our <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/29/the-week-in-preview-canadian-banks-aeropostale-shanda-interac/">earnings preview</a>, analysts were expecting 88 cents per American Depositary Share (ADS). On a reported basis, 90 cents per ADS was recorded. On an adjusted basis, the business achieved $1.08 per ADS. </p>
<p>Shanda not only did well in terms of an earnings beat, but it grew the top line quite admirably. Gross margin, unfortunately, saw a dip on both a year-over-year and a sequential basis. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/02/should-you-buy-shares-of-shanda/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Should you buy shares of Shanda?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/12/02/should-you-buy-shares-of-shanda/">Should you buy shares of Shanda?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 09:00:00 EST. The <strong>Bank of Montreal</strong> (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-montreal-que/bmo/nys">BMO</a>) did report <a href="http://www.canadianbusiness.com/markets/headline_news/article.jsp?content=b242665522&amp;utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=rss">strong fourth-quarter results</a> last week. This week, analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect competitor <strong>Royal Bank of Canada</strong> (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/royal-bk-cda-montreal-que/ry/nys">RY</a>) to post modest earnings growth as well, while <strong>Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce</strong> (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/canadian-imperial-bank-of-commerce/cm/nys">CM</a>) and <strong>Toronto Dominion Bank</strong> (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-toronto-dominion-bank/td/nys">TD</a>) are expected to post earnings declines.</p>
<p>Analysts are looking for $0.98 per share (+6.1%) earnings from RBC, $1.25 per share (-7.4%) from Toronto Dominion and $1.36 per share (-21.8%) from Canadian Imperial. The long-term EPS growth forecast for these three banks is for ranges from 10% and 12%, which is in the same ballpark as U.S. rivals Bank of America Corp. (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bac/nys">BAC</a>) and Wells Fargo &amp; Co. (<a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/wells-fargo-and-company/wfc/nys">WFC</a>). Earnings multiples for these Canadian banks are 10x to 12x, but only Toronto Dominion has a First Call consensus recommendation of buy. The Motley Fool, though, recently commented on Royal Bank's <a href="http://www.fool.com/investing/value/2009/11/20/warren-buffett-is-a-growth-investor.aspx">steady income and reliability</a>. All three banks are trading near their 52-week highs, and shares of all are up well more than 100% since March lows.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/29/the-week-in-preview-canadian-banks-aeropostale-shanda-interac/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The week in preview: Canadian banks, Aeropostale, Shanda Interactive ...</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/29/the-week-in-preview-canadian-banks-aeropostale-shanda-interac/">The week in preview: Canadian banks, Aeropostale, Shanda Interactive ...</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 29 Nov 2009 12:30:00 EST. <p>"China's online gaming market is slated to surge," says <a href="http://www.thestockadvisors.com/ccount/click.php?id=3191 ">Andy Obermueller</a>, an analyst with Street Authority's newly-launched advisory service, <a href="http://www.thestockadvisors.com/ccount/click.php?id=3191 ">Government-Driven Investing</a>.</p>

Since then, the 14 stocks covered in the report have risen an average of more than 15%.</p>
<p>The performance of these stocks -- along with the overall China market -- has far exceeded the 3% gain in the S&amp;P 500 index over the same time period. That report can be <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/05/08/investing-in-china-12-experts-picks-their-best-bets/">viewed here</a>.</p>
<p>Despite these gains, many of the leading advisors remain bullish on China; in particular, several have recently focused on the online gaming sector in Asia. Indeed, Timothy Lutts notes that while the video game market in the U.S. is slowing, the video game market in China is expected to show 20%+ annual growth in coming year.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/12/china-online-gaming-top-picks-from-six-advisors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>China online gaming: Top advisors' top picks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/12/china-online-gaming-top-picks-from-six-advisors/">China online gaming: Top advisors' top picks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 16:30:00 EST. Why not spend some time looking at the coming earnings and how Dad's Day may have an impact. It is funny to see how many of the companies reporting earnings this week actually have links to Father's Day.</p>
<p>While this column has been obviously bearish of late, there are a few potential winners that may appear, just in time for the big day. Time to stock up on gifts for dear-ole-dad, or get farther away from stocks? You tell me... (by the way, comments and ideas are always appreciated)</p>

<p>His latest two featured stocks based on these criteria are both China-based companies: Internet search provider <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/baidu-com-inc-ads/bidu/nas">Baidu.com</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/baidu-com-inc-ads/bidu/nas">BIDU</a>) and online gaming firm <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/shanda-interactive-entertainment-limited-american-depositary-shares/snda/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/shanda-interactive-entertainment-limited-american-depositary-shares/snda/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">SNDA</a>). </p>
<p>Collins notes that Baidu's search engine was the most frequently used in China in 2006. Last December, he adds, Baidu announced its intention to enter the Japanese search market, which is currently dominated by <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/yahoo-inc/yhoo/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">Yahoo!</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/yahoo-inc/yhoo/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">YHOO</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">Google</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">GOOG</a>).</p>
<p>In March, he adds, the company launched a limited beta trial of its Japanese language search services, which included web and image search.</p>
<p>For the quarter ended June 30, 2007, he reports, Baidu showed earnings of $0.61 a share, compared with $0.21 per share in the prior year. Revenues, he states, increased 121% to $53 million. The stock, he explains, has a relative strength rating of 99 (out of 100) and garners a B+ for accumulation and distribution.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/01/chinas-baidu-bidu-and-shanda-snda-relative-strength-favori/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>China's Baidu (BIDU) and Shanda (SNDA): Relative strength favorites</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/01/chinas-baidu-bidu-and-shanda-snda-relative-strength-favori/">China's Baidu (BIDU) and Shanda (SNDA): Relative strength favorites</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 01 Oct 2007 13:27:00 EST.
