Investors are racing to move money from riskier, higher-yielding trades to more conservative investments. And just like we saw during the financial crisis of 2008, U.S. Treasuries seem to be the conservative investment of choice.

This flight to safety and increased demand for U.S. Treasuries is pushing prices higher, but you need to make sure you are investing in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that provide exposure to Treasuries with longer-term maturities if you want to take advantage of the boom.

Continue reading TLT: Profit from the Flight to Safety with Treasury Bond Fund

TLT: Profit from the Flight to Safety with Treasury Bond Fund originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 20 May 2010 14:00:00 EST. But have you ever looked into those that are much less followed, but more capable of yielding some big-time returns?

I primarily trade fun smallcap stocks, so until the past few days, I hadn't either. But when I began researching, I just kept finding more and more interesting ETFs -- it was addictive! Almost addictive as my new Twitter account where I've discovered I can chat with business legends, yesterday it was the founder of eBay Inc (Nasdaq: EBAY). Okay, maybe ETFs will never be that addictive!

Out the few hundred ETFs I looked into, here were some of the more interesting of the bunch:

Continue reading ETFs every investor should know

ETFs every investor should know originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 11:12:00 EST.
The editor of The Safe Money Report explains, "The time is now to build cash and the best place to put it is in United States Treasury bills or equivalent." Here, he looks at the benefits of Treasuries and the various ways that investors can add them to their portfolios.

"We now have overwhelming evidence of a severe recession. And we have a solid confirmation in the stock market itself. But we also forecast that the Fed would fight back, and do so aggressively, fomenting an
inflationary recession.

"They're pumping in massive amounts of money, trying to calm markets and seeking to avert a recession. But it's too little, too late for the economy. And it's too much, too soon for the already-shaky dollar. *Result: Gold has surged along with other commodities.

"And consumer price inflation, long a side-show on the American scene, is now surging back. Our urgent appeal: If youhaven't done so already based on our earlier issues, the time is now to shift from complacency to protective action ... from bull-market plays to income opportunities ... from risk to safety.

Continue reading Safe Money seeks safety in Treasuries

Safe Money seeks safety in Treasuries originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 12:36:00 EST. This article is part of his 24th annual Top Picks Report.

For both of their top picks for 2007, Steve Hochberg and Pete Kendall look to ETFs -- the iShares Lehman 1-3 year Treasury Bond Fund (ASE: SHY) for conservative investors and a short position in the iShares S&P SmallCap 600 Index Fund (NYSE: IJR) as a speculation.

The co-editors of The Elliott Wave Financial Forecast explain, "Stock prices have been crashing since 1999 in terms of real money, a fact of which nine out of ten people are unaware. From 1980 to 1999, stocks rose in terms of paper dollars, gold, and commodities. Since 1999, a historic shift out of stocks and into hard cash or 'things' has been underway.

"Relative to gold, the Dow is down 56% and the NASDAQ is off 78%, with new lows made this year. Similar stock market behavior occurred from 1966 to 1980, a time period that included a decline of 50% in the S&P 500 index.

"The Dow is at a new high in nominal terms due to credit inflation, which has allowed the index to stay up because the measuring unit (the dollar) is falling. Historically, whenever a discrepancy between the performance of the Dow in real terms and the Dow in nominal terms develops, the Dow in nominal terms always plays catch up to the Dow in real terms.

Continue reading Top Picks 2007: Elliott experts ride the "wave"

Top Picks 2007: Elliott experts ride the "wave" originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Thu, 28 Dec 2006 08:30:00 EST.
