The potential 'deal' being $30 billion in new capital for community banks, who would then use it as a base to increase lending to small-sized/medium-sized businesses by up to $300 billion -- credit that's urgently needed and may prove to be a pivotal factor concerning the U.S. economic expansion's sustainability.

"If we can help the big banks, then we should certainly be able to help small-business lending," President Barack Obama said June 30, Bloomberg News reported. The Senate may consider the bill as early as this week; the program, called the Small Business Lending Fund, passed the U.S. House last month
Continue reading Senate May Vote This Week on $30 Billion Community Bank Capital Bill

Senate May Vote This Week on $30 Billion Community Bank Capital Bill originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 27 Jul 2010 13:30:00 EST. The need to charter and capitalize new, small/mid-sized banks. (It's an issue that the Tea Party movement could make some hay on, also.)

The financial crisis is over, but the credit squeeze continues, and small and medium-sized businesses have borne a great deal of it, with many still unable to secure the credit they need to expand their operations, despite rising demand.

Continue reading This Decade May Have to Become the Era of New, Small Banks

This Decade May Have to Become the Era of New, Small Banks originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Tue, 12 Jan 2010 13:00:00 EST. (pdf)

Meanwhile, the April 2008 estimated change in employment was revised up 3,000 to a gain of 13,000 jobs, ADP (NYSE: ADP) said.

The service sector of the economy added 77,000 jobs, while employment in the goods-producing sector declined 37,000 - - its 18th consecutive monthly decline.

Most of the decline in employment during May was accounted for by job losses at large companies, which registered an 18,000-job decline. Meanwhile, small businesses added 61,000 jobs and medium-sized business cut 3,000 jobs.

Conditions in two economic sectors hard hit by the slumping housing sector - - construction and financial activities - - continued to deteriorate. Construction employment fell 13,000 - - its 18th consecutive monthly decline - - bringing the total decline in construction jobs since the peak in August 2006 to 298,000. Employment in financial activities declined 5,000, its third straight monthly decline.

Economic Analysis: In general, a surprisingly upbeat ADP job report. The 40,000 job gain wasn't nearly enough to keep unemployment from rising, but at least it wasn't a decline. However, economists caution that one should not read too much into the monthly ADP job report, due to its limited scope (private sector payrolls). The more-telling indicator is the U.S. Labor Department's monthly payroll statistic, and May 2008's data will be released Friday at 8:30 a.m. EDT. That report is expected to show a 60,000-job decline, according to a Bloomberg News survey of economists.
Private sector payrolls rise 40k in May, ADP says originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 10:43:00 EST. For more than a decade, he has started ventures in places like Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

His latest company is SupportSave, an outsourcing services provider for small and mid-sized customers.

I recently had a chance to interview him:

Some background on your company?

The company got its start in November 2004. Our founders strongly believed that the trend of outsourcing should not only benefit Fortune 1000 companies. So they set out to create a business model that makes outsourcing affordable to businesses of any size.

We thought the Philippines as the most suitable destination for our services because of the strong language skills, minimal accent and affinity towards American culture.

Continue reading BloggingStocks CEO Interview: SupportSave sees big growth in outsourcing

BloggingStocks CEO Interview: SupportSave sees big growth in outsourcing originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Wed, 05 Dec 2007 16:54:00 EST. And, of course, I saw the devastation of the recent fires.

But what about some of the businesses that need to rebuild? Could they have prepared for the fires?

Well, I recently interviewed Jon Toigo, a disaster recovery expert at Toigo Partners International. Over the past 20 years, he has put together nearly 100 disaster recovery plans. His clients include Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO), and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ). Also, Toigo has a partnership with Office Depot to help businesses deal with disaster preparedness.

"The bottom line in disaster preparedness is to protect your most irreplaceable assets - your people and your data," said Toigo.

Continue reading Entrepreneur's Journal: Saving your business from disaster

Entrepreneur's Journal: Saving your business from disaster originally appeared on BloggingStocks on Sat, 03 Nov 2007 14:01:00 EST.
