This could pose a threat to OVTI's AAPL business, as OVTI had been the main supplier of image sensors for the iPhone. If you think this stock won't be rising too far in the coming months, then it could be a good time to look at a bearish hedged play on OVTI.</p>
<p>This morning, OVTI opened at $34.06. So far today the stock has hit a high of $34.10 and a low of $32.20. As of 12:15, OVTI is trading at $33.15, down $3.04 (-8.4%). The chart for OVTI looks neutral and <a href="http:// www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline" target="_blank">S&amp;P</a> gives OVTI a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold ranking.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/04/will-apple-squeeze-omnivision-out-of-the-iphone-business/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Will Apple Squeeze OmniVision Out of the iPhone Business?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/04/04/will-apple-squeeze-omnivision-out-of-the-iphone-business/">Will Apple Squeeze OmniVision Out of the iPhone Business?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 04 Apr 2011 13:00:00 EST. I was therefore rather surprised to see what I thought were relatively impressive numbers attached to the top films.</p>
<p>According to early estimates for domestic grosses at <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/">Box Office Mojo</a>, Sony's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>) <em>Just Go With It</em>, starring Adam Sandler, is so far credited with a first-place showing; the movie is believed to have made about $31 million for the Friday-through-Sunday period. But Viacom's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/viacom-inc-cl-b/via.b/nys">VIA.B</a>) <em>Justin Bieber: Never Say Never </em>product isn't giving up without a fight. At the time of writing, it was in second place with $30.3 million. Essentially, it's a tie.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/14/viacoms-bieber-film-gives-sonys-sandler-project-a-fight/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Viacom's Bieber Film Gives Sony's Sandler Project a Fight</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/14/viacoms-bieber-film-gives-sonys-sandler-project-a-fight/">Viacom's Bieber Film Gives Sony's Sandler Project a Fight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 14 Feb 2011 09:00:00 EST. Excluding one-time items, SNE earned 72.07 yen per share on revenue of 2.21 trillion yen. Analysts had forecast a profit of 62.52 yen per share on revenue of 2.24 trillion yen. Without adverse currency action, profits would have been even higher. If you think that the stock won't fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on SNE.<br />
<br />
SNE opened this morning at $35.00. So far today the stock has hit a low of $35.00 and a high of $36.29. As of 12:10, SNE is trading at $36.26 up $1.47 (4.2%). The chart for SNE looks bearish and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.iotogo.com/spoutlookonline">S&amp;P</a> gives SNE a negative 2 STARS (out of 5) sell ranking.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/03/sony-soars-on-q3-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony Soars on Q3 Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/03/sony-soars-on-q3-earnings/">Sony Soars on Q3 Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 14:00:00 EST. We'll find out whether there's been any movement on that front when employment data for January comes out this week. The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Challenger%20Job-Cut%20Report">Challenger Job-Cut</a> report and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/ADP%20National%20Employment%20Report">ADP employment data</a> are due Wednesday, and the government's unemployment rate on Friday. Another mild increase in jobs is expected, in line with the three-month average, but not enough to significantly reduce the unemployment rate.</p>
<p>Also look for the ISM <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/ISM%20Manufacturing%20Index">manufacturing</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/ISM%20Non-Manufacturing%20Index">nonmanufacturing</a> indexes this week, as well as the Chicago <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Purchasing%20Managers%20Index%20-%20PMI">PMI</a> and the New York <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/National%20Association%20of%20Purchasing%20Management%20Chicago%20-%20NAPM%20Chicago">NAPM</a> index. With a little over two-and-a-half hours to go before the market bell, I had noticed that the stock was up an incredible 15.6% to $31.05. On heavy volume. Yes, heavy volume, on the last day of the year.<br />
<br />
What was the reason? There was some speculation about a buyout. <a href="http://www.streetinsider.com/Mergers+and+Acquisitions/IMAX+%28IMAX%29+Shares+See+a+3-D+Surge+On+Takeover+Rumors/6187545.html">StreetInisder.com</a> had reported that Sony (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>) was possibly interested in buying the business. If someone would have told me I could write that much in my "spare time" I probably would not have stopped laughing until I collapsed. I marvel at all that has happened in the marketplace over this time: the ups and downs, good calls and bad; and being called everything under the sun, and then some, by our more <em>'enthusiastic'</em> readers.</p>
<p>I must thank Amey Stone who I have been corresponding with for over a decade and was the one that first asked this architect and investor to be one of the initial group of bloggers. Now there is an army of writers and a lot has changed. For me this week marks a big change because Amey accepted a new position at another company and last Friday was her last day. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/lookup/apple/usa">AAPL</a>) and what it might do with its growing pile of cash, promoting a dividend rather than any misadventures or allowing the cash to continue to drag down earnings per share.<br />
<br />
This is not Apple's plan and many readers agree. They believe Steve Jobs and company know what's best about everything and have done fine by them -- the latter part is certainly true.<br />
<br />
Today I put it to our readers to check current sentiment.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/27/chasing-value-questions-about-apple/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing Value: Questions About Apple?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/27/chasing-value-questions-about-apple/">Chasing Value: Questions About Apple?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 13:30:00 EST. The film <em>Jackass 3D </em>came out on top, making $50 million at domestic theaters in its debut, according to early estimates at <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/">Box Office Mojo</a>. Viacom beat out high-profile products from various media companies: Summit Entertainment's <em>Red</em>, Sony's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>) <em>The Social Network</em>, Time Warner's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/time-warner-inc/twx/nys">TWX</a>) <em>Life As We Know It</em>, and Disney's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-walt-disney-company/dis/nys">DIS</a>) <em>Secretariat</em> all had to step aside and watch as multiplexes filled with fans eager to see the comedy saturated with a series of painful stunts. <br />
<br />
It isn't too surprising. The promotional campaign for the movie seemed to have hit its target demographic, creating an appropriate amount of excitement that eventually translated into copious ticket sales. Plus, except for <em>Red</em>, the other movies mentioned were already out in the marketplace, making them not as much of a threat to the energetic new kid on the block.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/18/viacoms-jackass-franchise-makes-triumphant-return/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Viacom's 'Jackass' Franchise Makes Triumphant Return</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/18/viacoms-jackass-franchise-makes-triumphant-return/">Viacom's 'Jackass' Franchise Makes Triumphant Return</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 09:00:00 EST. I do. It's a fun sector. And there's such theoretical potential for growth (assuming compelling titles are produced that can compete with casual online offerings and can command a decent price premium).<br />
<br />
But you're nervous. I know I am. We've been hearing how the industry isn't necessarily doing as well as it had been. And with the latest sales report, we have further confirmation that caution may be the best strategy for investors when it comes to dealing with ideas like Activision Blizzard Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/activision-blizzard-inc/atvi/nas">ATVI</a>) and Electronic Arts Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/electronic-arts-inc/erts/nas">ERTS</a>).<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/15/video-game-industry-remains-challenged/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video Game Industry Remains Challenged</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/15/video-game-industry-remains-challenged/">Video Game Industry Remains Challenged</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 15 Oct 2010 17:00:00 EST. According to <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/">Box Office Mojo</a>, it took in an estimated $12.6 million over the Friday to Sunday weekend. We still have the Monday holiday to go, but I don't think it'll make much difference. <br />
<br />
I suppose one could say it did all right in its debut considering the type of movie it is and the time of year; this isn't the summer, certainly, so we're not necessarily going to observe supercharged grosses. But I think Disney has a lot to prove with each of its films these days since CEO Bob Iger has been focusing on finding the right strategy for growth in a division that hasn't always pulled its weight.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/11/disneys-secretariat-disappoints/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Disney's 'Secretariat' Disappoints</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/11/disneys-secretariat-disappoints/">Disney's 'Secretariat' Disappoints</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 09:00:00 EST. It has to do with disappointment surrounding the release date of the Nintendo 3DS hand-held system -- which will miss the holiday season -- as well a bad <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/company-news/nintendo-cuts-profit-forecast-and-says-new-3-d-device-will-miss/19654300/">profit outlook</a> (I'm presuming the latter issue was more responsible for the bearishness than the former one).</p>
<p>My colleague Gary Sattler <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/29/nintendo-slashes-earnings-forecast-while-betting-heavily-on-3ds/">gave his opinion</a> on the situation the other day. The question is, should an investor buy the company's American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) on pullbacks? What kind of opportunity do they represent? Yesterday, they closed down 4.9% to $31.20. Volume was very heavy.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/01/is-nintendo-a-buy-on-dips/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Is Nintendo a Buy on Dips?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/10/01/is-nintendo-a-buy-on-dips/">Is Nintendo a Buy on Dips?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 01 Oct 2010 09:00:00 EST. I can't, certainly. If you had asked me what film would turn out to be the most popular among movie patrons this past weekend, I would have told you that <em>Devil</em>, distributed by General Electric's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/general-electric-company/ge/nys">GE</a>) Universal Pictures, stood the best chance of slithering its evil celluloid self to the top of the heap. As it turns out, I was wrong. Time Warner's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/time-warner-inc/twx/nys">TWX</a>) <em>The Town</em>, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, was the winner at domestic theaters, according to <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/">Box Office Mojo</a>. <br />
<br />
<em>Town</em> brought in over $23 million as of estimates available at the time of this writing. In second place was <em>Easy A</em>, from Sony (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>), with $18 million. <em>Devil</em> made about $12 million. (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/google-inc/goog/nas">GOOG</a>) continues to broaden its reach in the <a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/Technology Sector">technology sector</a>, and today the company announced that it plans to <a href="http://www.totaltele.com/view.aspx?ID=458396">launch its Google TV platform</a> globally in 2011.<br />
<br />
The company gave a demonstration of the new platform today in Berlin, illustrating how a Google search bar would appear on top of the TV and allow users to search both the internet and live TV listings.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/07/google-to-launch-tv-platform-globally-in-2011/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Google to Launch TV Platform Globally in 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/09/07/google-to-launch-tv-platform-globally-in-2011/">Google to Launch TV Platform Globally in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 07 Sep 2010 17:00:00 EST. After completing its third weekend in the marketplace, the movie has generated over $80 million so far in total. Not bad, although it must take in more dollars to break even, as <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/23/lionsgate-beats-competition-again-with-expendables/">I mentioned last week</a>. <br />
<br />
More impressively, <em>The Last Exorcism</em> nabbed the top spot. It captured $21.3 million over the last three days. At the time of this writing, though, the second-place film, Sony's (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>) <em>Takers</em>, was credited with an even $21 million. Once final figures are available later on, it's possible the rankings could change.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/30/has-lionsgates-latest-film-exorcised-carl-icahn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Has Lionsgate's Latest Film Exorcised Carl Icahn?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/30/has-lionsgates-latest-film-exorcised-carl-icahn/">Has Lionsgate's Latest Film Exorcised Carl Icahn?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 30 Aug 2010 09:00:00 EST.
