This trend was seen across almost all companies in the solar industry, including SunPower's competitors FirstSolar (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/first-solar-inc/fslr/nas">FSLR</a>), SuntechPower (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/suntech-power-holdings-co-ltd/stp/nys">STP</a>), and Yingli Green Energy (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/yingli-green-energy-holding-company-limited-adr/yge/nys">YGE</a>).</p>
<p>Our price estimate for <a href="https://www.trefis.com/company?hm=SPWRA.trefis">SunPower's stock is at $14.41</a>, about 10% below its current market price.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/22/sunpowers-outlook-brightens-as-concerns-on-nuclear-rise/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SunPower's Outlook Brightens as Concerns on Nuclear Rise</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/22/sunpowers-outlook-brightens-as-concerns-on-nuclear-rise/">SunPower's Outlook Brightens as Concerns on Nuclear Rise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 10:00:00 EST. <br />
The editor of <a href="http://www.completeinvestor.com/">The Complete Investor</a> observes, "So you would think manufacturers of photovoltaic (PV) cells and systems would be winning the favor of investors as well. But that hasn't been the case-far from it.<br />
<br />
"Rather, shares of many solar manufacturers, including Suntech Power (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/suntech-power-holdings-co-ltd/stp/nys">STP</a>), have been hitting the skids.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/03/suntech-power-stp-shining-opportunity/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Suntech Power (STP): Shining Opportunity?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/03/suntech-power-stp-shining-opportunity/">Suntech Power (STP): Shining Opportunity?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 10:40:00 EST. Even so, that doesn't mean I have to like LDK Solar (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/ldk-solar-co-inc-american-depositary-shares/ldk/nys">LDK</a>) after its fourth-quarter report.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.theflyonthewall.com/permalinks/entry.php/LDKid1219198">TheFly.com</a>, LDK Solar didn't score a win in the analyst expectations game. The call was for 12 cents per share. On an adjusted basis, the Chinese solar entity brought in only 3 cents per share. The top line was okay, but as indicated, margin quality wasn't necessarily the greatest. According to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSSGE62T0EY20100330?type=marketsNews">Reuters</a>, management is counting on margin improvement in the coming year. That's cool.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/30/ldk-solar-not-interesting-after-q4/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LDK Solar Not Interesting After Q4</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/30/ldk-solar-not-interesting-after-q4/">LDK Solar Not Interesting After Q4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 30 Mar 2010 14:40:00 EST. <p>The editor of The China Stock Digest explains, The company is world leader in the manufacture of photovoltaic solar cells and solar electric systems. And, it is developing a new technology to increase solar efficiency." Here is his review. </p>
<p>"The company's solar cells are used to supply power to the electricity grid within China, and it's the number one company in the Chinese solar energy industry. The company's systems also provide dependable power internationally for mobile phone networks and telecommunications relay stations and even street lamps in case of power outages.</p>
<p>"Certainly China is in desperate need of clean renewable sources of energy. Residents of major cities like Beijing and Shanghai are constantly enveloped in a choking cloud of smog. Beijing has said it wants a tenth of its energy to come from environmentally friendly sources by 2010.</p>
<p>"The problem with solar energy has always been the high cost of manufacturing solar cells relative to the amount of power output per cell. Suntech is attacking that problem with rigorous cost control and the competitive advantages that low cost Chinese manufacturers enjoy in the international arena.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/04/04/suntech-power-stp-a-new-technology-for-solar/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Suntech Power (STP): A 'new technology' for solar</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/04/04/suntech-power-stp-a-new-technology-for-solar/">Suntech Power (STP): A 'new technology' for solar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 12:10:00 EST. <p><img alt="" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.bloggingstocks.com/media/2006/12/bernie_schaeffer.jpg" align="right" vspace="4" border="1" />"Our favorite speculative play for 2008 is <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/first-solar-inc/fslr/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">First Solar</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/first-solar-inc/fslr/nas?tabs=quotesandnews">FSLR</a>)," says <strong>Bernie Schaeffer</strong>, editor of <a href="http://www.thestockadvisors.com/ccount/click.php?id=1630">Schaeffer's Investment Research</a>.</p>
<p>"First Solar is a specialized semiconductor company that is a play on the alternative-energy theme. FSLR designs, manufactures and sells solar electric power modules. With a price-earnings (P/E) ratio of 178 and the stock posting gains of nearly 700% in 2007, investors in FSLR should expect a potentially wild ride.</p>
<p>"Despite the 'internet bubble-like' appreciation in the stock, we think the trend can continue, as this is a company with actual earnings and its share of naysayers. The skepticism is an indication that there is sideline buying power that can drive the equity even higher in the months to come.</p>
<p>"FSLR's third-quarter earnings report was spectacular. Net income of 58 cents per share easily topped Wall Street's estimate of 19 cents per share, sending the stock soaring on the news. The year-over-year earnings growth rate in the third quarter was an outstanding 729%. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/12/18/best-stocks-for-2008-first-solar-fslr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best Stocks for 2008: Schaeffer lights up First Solar (FSLR)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/12/18/best-stocks-for-2008-first-solar-fslr/">Best Stocks for 2008: Schaeffer lights up First Solar (FSLR)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2007 14:15:00 EST. <p align="left">In his <a href="http://www.tickertapedigest.com/">Ticker Tape Digest</a> he has isolated two intriguing energy plays: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diamond-offshore-drilling-inc/do/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/diamond-offshore-drilling-inc/do/nys?tabs=quotesandnews">DO</a>) searches for energy below the sea, while solar firm <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/suntech-power-holdings-co-ltd/stp/nys">Suntech Power Holdings Co.</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/suntech-power-holdings-co-ltd/stp/nys">STP</a>) looks skyward.</p>
<p align="left">The advisor explains, "Diamond Offshore has 30 semisubmersibles, 13 jack-up rigs (mobile drilling platforms), and one drillship. They operate around the world. The company contracts with major oil and gas companies. </p>
<p align="left">"DO's profit outlook is excellent and should be the driver to send the stock higher. Technically, the stock's long-term chart shows a powerful bull market. It has soared from 20 to 113 the past three years, riding the rising price of crude oil. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/20/best-energy-ideas-under-the-sea-and-up-in-the-sky/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best energy ideas: Under the sea and up in the sky</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/20/best-energy-ideas-under-the-sea-and-up-in-the-sky/">Best energy ideas: Under the sea and up in the sky</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 20 Oct 2007 08:10:00 EST.
