That represented a gain of a mere two pennies going into the after-the-bell earnings release. I guess investors weren't too excited by the prospects of the data.</p>
<p>Shares didn't do much in the extended session either, but popped about 4% at the opening bell Wednesday. For a longer-term perspective, take a look at the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/sonic-corp/sonc/nas/tech-chart">one-year chart</a>. The stock seems to be doing its best to climb back to higher levels. Returning to the 52-week high of $13.11 would be nice.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/05/sonic-reports-q1-results/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic Beats Earnings Estimates Despite Weak Sales</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/01/05/sonic-reports-q1-results/">Sonic Beats Earnings Estimates Despite Weak Sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 05 Jan 2011 11:00:00 EST. However, is this enough to validate an investment in the franchise?<br />
<br />
After lowering its outlook for the fiscal year, from between $0.55 - $0.60 to $0.50 - $0.55 per share, Sonic announced on June 21, 2010 that its earnings for the third quarter were a disappointing $0.18 per share. This figure is lower than what analysts predicted by 1 to 4 cents per share, and even includes a 3 cent tax benefit. Without including special items, this marks a year over year decline of almost 40%.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/25/sonic-a-restaurant-with-risks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic: A Restaurant with Risks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/06/25/sonic-a-restaurant-with-risks/">Sonic: A Restaurant with Risks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 25 Jun 2010 18:00:00 EST. At the time I was checking quotes on the stock, I came up with a price of $8.80. Not too encouraging for shareholders, especially considering that the volume was active. <br />
<br />
Shares of the fast-food entity have traded in a narrow range over the last twelve months. The 52-week low is $8.07; the 52-week high is $13.11. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/sonic-corp/sonc/nas/tech-chart">one-year chart</a> shows an all-over-the-place situation; there's no smooth uptrend here. So, we need some fundamental guidance. The <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/sonic-reports-third-quarter-2010-results/rfid340985553/?channel=pf">third-quarter report</a> was released yesterday after the bell. Carhops on roller skates are making a comeback as Sonic (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sonic-corp/sonc/nas">SONC</a>) forges ahead with plans to revive wheeled waitstaff at its drive in restaurants across the U.S. Sonic is planning a new TV ad campaign that will highlight this nostalgic feature of Sonic stores that many diners may have forgotten -- or that younger customers didn't even know existed -- in an effort to reconnect with consumers.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/13/back-on-fast-food-menus-roller-skates/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Back on Fast-Food Menus: Roller Skates</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/13/back-on-fast-food-menus-roller-skates/">Back on Fast-Food Menus: Roller Skates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 13 Apr 2010 18:00:00 EST. I'm sure I would love the food; however, I can definitively state that I did not like the company's current <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/sonic-reports-second-quarter-2010-results/rfid311971297/?channel=pf">earnings report</a>, which was released yesterday after the bell.</p>
<p>For the second quarter, Sonic lost one penny per share. Last year, the business brought in 14 cents per share of positive profit, helped along by a gain of 6 cents attributable to a debt purchase. The current performance was unfortunately below estimates; the market wanted <a href="http://www.earnings.com/company.asp?client=cb&amp;ticker=sonc">2 cents</a> of income to show up on the bottom line.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/24/sonics-q2-a-not-too-tasty-decline-in-comps/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic's Q2: A Not-Too-Tasty Decline in Comps</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/03/24/sonics-q2-a-not-too-tasty-decline-in-comps/">Sonic's Q2: A Not-Too-Tasty Decline in Comps</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 24 Mar 2010 09:00:00 EST. Perhaps a better way to look at the situation is through the company's <a href="http://finance.aol.com/glossary/same%20store%20sales">same-store sales</a> metrics. On a system-wide basis, comps dropped 6.5%. On a partner drive-in basis, comps plunged 9.1%.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/01/06/sonics-q1-the-market-didnt-get-what-it-ordered/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic's Q1: The Market Didn't Get What It Ordered</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/01/06/sonics-q1-the-market-didnt-get-what-it-ordered/">Sonic's Q1: The Market Didn't Get What It Ordered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 06 Jan 2010 10:40:00 EST. He is the founder of <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/sonic-corp/sonc/nas">Sonic Corp.</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/sonic-corp/sonc/nas">SONC</a>). He was 87.<br /><br />Like many great entrepreneurs, Smith got experience in his industry before he started his business. After serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II, he got a job as a truck driver for some cafes and restaurants. From this, he started to brainstorm business ideas.<br /><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/30/sonics-mastermind-troy-smith-dies-at-87/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic's mastermind, Troy Smith, dies at 87</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/10/30/sonics-mastermind-troy-smith-dies-at-87/">Sonic's mastermind, Troy Smith, dies at 87</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 15:30:00 EST. The shares have done well today on the news. As I write this, Sonic's stock is up well over 12% in afternoon trading. Volume is great. Do you want to get in on the action?
<p> Sonic said it earned an adjusted 24 cents per share. This article <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssConsumerGoodsAndRetailNews/idUSBNG43412620090623">reported</a> expectations as being $0.20 per share, so management beat the bottom line by a nice amount. We'll throw that result on the positive side of the line.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/24/sonic-beats-wall-street-but-sales-are-sagging/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic beats Wall Street, but sales are sagging</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/24/sonic-beats-wall-street-but-sales-are-sagging/">Sonic beats Wall Street, but sales are sagging</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 15:30:00 EST.
